Ooookay

RE: http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/78124.html

If any of you were hoping to get your weapons back? Sorry, not gonna happen. Whoever you are, thank you for fucking it up for the rest of us.

Allow me to clarify for the masses

I know who did it. Telling me that you didn't do it has no effect. Everyone calm down. Character pissiness is leaking over onto the OOC on my part, and I apologize for that.

However... the weapons thing is [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor's call at the end of the day. As long as things continue to tend toward violence in the school between students or teachers or students and teachers, the weapons ban will probably stand.

The originally stated goal of this RP was for crazy hijinks... not scaring people. The weapons will remain gone until things have calmed.

*nods*

This makes sense, and fits with Sam's character. I'd like to engage in some more of the kind of plots you're talking about and more general silliness so that this doesn't become either a chore or the kind of exercise in "I'm not cool enough" that high school was when I was in high school.

I'm not sure whether your comments are directed at me, or if we're having a conversation. So, if directed at me, then, I agree, apologize, and am also trying to diversify.

If conversation, then...well, the same. :)

So here's my take on it, and I don't know if anyone cares, BUT.

I think as long as it's IC, there shouldn't be a problem. Because see, you have someone like Veronica Mars (picked at random), high school student, doesn't have to deal with day to day violence in her life. And then you have someone like Harry Potter, who can use magic and lord knows that would probably make a character or two uncomfortable. Or you have Angelus, who is going to do something creepy because the username is a huge clue as to the motivation there. Or you have several characters who are going to want to be armed because it's what they know and that is their character.

Playing a character who's grown up with the military life and knowing how to handle weapons? She's going to be pissy as hell being separated from her weapon for that long. There's even a line in the show about her even showering with her pulse rifle. She's going to find it safer to actually have a weapon rather than being relatively defenseless and the thing is, IT'S IN CHARACTER. It's cool to find a middle ground or something, but this became a plotline I didn't want Aeryn to have but I feel I need to take it there because that's what she would do.

So find a way to mediate it, but taking it away completely can actually change the character, and that's not cool, either.

It's not directed at you: more general observations, tinged with past bitter experience.

The premise is wonderfully cracky with immense potential. The actuality is considerably more difficult to realise.

I understand. Learned an unpleasant lesson the hard way.

Hope we can make it more fun for all of us.

Quite possibly. *waves happily* :)

I'm not trying to cause anyone grief, I'm simply stating that from a character standpoint, if you bring in all these people from all these other fandoms, some of which are going to be evil or whatever, you're going to have this problem. You have werewolf and vampire characters and don't expect other characters to be scared of it? If my character's going to be more comfortable with a weapon no matter what's going on, that's very simply the way it is.

Personally, I don't even know how this atomosphere or fear thing started. I was completely clueless until I saw this post and freaked out that characters were going to get blamed for something they didn't do. All I know is that one day wham, no more weapons, and I had no idea why. Why can't we all establish some sort of ground rules about what's acceptable and what's not before a huge rule like that is passed considering so many people are freaking out about certain things?

(And I know, it all comes down to [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor in the end, but I think I've got a valid suggestion here.)

Yeah, I think Donnie would kind of skulk around muttering "this sucks." But it would be fun to watch him interact with the bad guys.

Okay, I get that. I totally understand the IC reaction. But the OOC reaction is puzzling to me. The "I quit!!!" comments were over-reacting, I think. I really don't understand them!

You have allowed evil characters who, even when young, were evil. Canonically. They're bound to cause drama -- which I personally think is great, as long as actions that seriously affect other characters are talked out in advance.

High school without drama would be boring. Every high school has its share of troublemakers! Wacky hijinks can totally involve pulling one over on the bad guys -- or the good guys for that matter. ;)

(I'm totally not trying to stir things up here -- just trying to understand. I'm sorry if I come across as confrontational.)

And I can understand that they would be worried.

I tend to play Dru as someone who doesn't seek other people out, but anyone who may be willing to seek her out should *probably* know what they're getting in for. I tend to make it atmospheric enough for them to get an idea. :)

Luckily, she's easy enough to ignore if you're more of the fun and wacky type. And I enjoy the silliness around here more than should be legal, believe me!

While playing Dru, I am all about ascertaining people's comfort levels ooc with where the ic roleplay is going. If someone's not comfortable, I'm going to either turn into mischevious!Dru or end the scene. I'll make sure to make that extra clear in my user info.

Canonically the most evil vampire who ever existed in his world.

And that is such a challenge to live up to, I tell you. What's a girl to do when she's got to surpass her daddy in evilness?

[identity profile] principalconnor.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
And me, as well. When I say this place is stressing me out more than anything else I'm doing right now -- and I'm moving to another state this weekend without any job prospects, for God's sake -- that's saying something.

IC action = IC consequences.

Oh, I totally agree. If any of the "less savory" students get caught doing something, they should totally get in trouble for it.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And me, as well. I spent half the weekend feeling sick over something my character had stupidly agreed to do, and the other half feeling incredibly sad about the fallout. If this were one of those things that you could do without any personal involvement with your character or the other muns, it wouldn't be near as much fun, but I've gotta say, WTF? It's a game. My RL spouse should not have to put up with angst and moodiness as a result.

Oh, on a personal note, good luck with the move. I don't doubt you'll find a job soon. What I've seen of you through your character is competent, talented, and committed. That's always needed. *smiles*

Love you too. Seriously.

Hey. Tell me. Our plotting against Camulus and arming ourselves against him...was that a bad? It was all a joke. Considering Bek and Cammy were flirting up a storm, giving Kawalsky a weapon was sort of just a "hey, dude, don't be such a chicken". My oh so bad if that contributed to this madness. *headdesk*

My character has been at work, IC. I'm just trying to explain OOC, since the whole subject was brought up OOC in the comments to a post in the OOC comm.

All I'm doing is offering a dissenting opinion. I just don't agree and I'm allowed to. Sorry, and don't worry, I'm done with the topic.
