OOC and IC: Phoebe/Chloe/Beka/Crichton - Journalism assignment

Because Veronica-mun is extra smart, I'm copping this idea from her. (Gonna do it again in a minute for debate, so sorry for the multi-post in advance!)

Gang, Crichton-mun did posters. I'll do ad copy if we want. But we should talk about our text/subtext and how we want to persuade people to say yes, and why they wouldn't want to in the first place (because you know, who could say no to Celine? *wink*)

I'll post a link back to the Journalism class if we get going here.

Also, I'll make two separate threads. One for OOC discussion and one for the IC discussion that Spider 'sees'.

As a reminder, here is the assignment:

Your assignment, due next week, is to produce a poster/propaganda campaign based on the idea of 'Just say yes'. Requirements are at least two posters, some sort of flyer, a spot in the student newspaper or the radio and at least one faculty endorsement of whatever it is that you are encouraging.

John comes in and sets the two rough copies of his posters on the floor. "Now, remember, these can be changed. I just wanted to get startd on this oh so fascinating topic," he says with a laugh. Bwahaha! So fantastic!

"Oh my god, these are brilliant." Chloe smirks at John. "You seem to have such a natural affinity for Celine. It's very endearing."

She looks over at Beka. "Did Professor Jerusalem say something about getting one of our ads in the newspaper? If so, that obviously won't be an issue."

John smiles. "Thanks, Chloe. It's so easy to work with such a willing subject. I can do other posters if we wanna have a multiple choice type thing."

"And, since you've got newspaper covered, I can maybe talk to a few teacher's, see if we can get an endorsement. I think a friend of mine knows Dr. Jackson quite well."

Bwa! Awesome!

"I could probably talk Camulus into it, if it comes to that. If not him, then Padme." Beka nods, smiling. "This will be a good project. I like the 'guiding star' concept. Do we want to...do something with her...purity?"

John nods. "Teacher's a teacher. Professor Camulus would work as well." John leans against a wall. "Well, what else, graphically is left to do, assuming we keep the posters? A brochure of some type? That could focus on the purity and goodness of her with a list of facts supporting it?"

"Let's see how many endorsements we can get, and pick the one that's most in the spirit of our campaign. The focus of which is Celine as a guiding light. A brochure might be good, or a flyer, since that would be less expensive to reproduce."

She nodded to Chloe. "Chloe, newspaper or radio?"

"Well, radio would make a lot of sense, since she's a singer and all. Maybe we could use her music as part of the message?"

"Awesome idea, Chloe." She smiles. "You want to see about a clip? And I'll write some text if you give me the lyrics?"

Chloe grins. "Sure thing. Do we want a clip that continues with the guiding light theme?"

"Yeah, I think that would be good. Something we can focus around. I'm thinking what we want to say is stuff like the poster. But with a very clear and incisive 'say yes'. Maybe a 'how could you say no to the voice of an angel?'"

"Oh, that's priceless." Chloe snickers. "I'll see what I can find in her lyrics."

"You're an angel." Beka winks.

Chloe gets out a sheet of paper to write all of this down. "Okay, just to double check here. Two posters: check, thanks to John. Spot in the newspaper, check, I've got that. Spot on the radio, check, Beka and I will get that. Faculty endorsement, check, you guys will ask Professor Camulus. So it looks like all we need is a flyer of some sort.

Beka coughs, amused. "I, uh... bargained...with Camulus. He'll say whatever we ask. ~~And I only had to give him an hour of my time.~~"

I can finish writing the radio ad?

"Sure, Pheebs." Beka studied Phoebe. "You OK?"

Chloe smirks. "I'm just going to mark that down and not ask questions. Good job though, thank you," she says.

Phoebe is annoyed at her mun for missing this thread and is thinking as she looks up lyrics on her laptop

Phoebe sighed. "No, I'm not. First, I'm being stalked. Second, Jerusalem almost fires me. Now? Now he's given me detention."

Beka smirks. "Well. If we want to play the subtext, it might be sort of funny to indicate that our endorsement of her moral purity was obtained by the promise of...uh, well, I didn't exactly promise him anything untoward. I just said I'd spend an hour with him. ~~It's just we have something of a history.~~ Oh. And you're welcome."

Phoebe starts laughing. "That is such irony."

Beka put down her notes. "He did what? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You're an incredible assistant. And you always participate in class." Her palm slams down a table causing things to jump. "Damn it. Why? Especially with everything else going on."

Phoebe is near tears. "He says I missed homework. Me! How could I have missed homework? I do every fucking assignment!" She buries her face in her hands. "What's Dean Bristow going to say?!" Phoebe's voice is a wail. "Student Council President gets detention?!"

Unable to watch, Beka went to Phoebe and embraced her. "Pheebs. Shhh. You've had a lot going on. You've been afraid. Maybe stuff slipped. That wouldn't be the worst thing ever. And, maybe he's just wrong. Don't worry about the Dean. He'll give you the same speech he gave me and Ror."

Silken hair slid under her hand in long smoothe strokes. "Breathe."

Beka grinned at her. "Yes, I'm nothing if not ironic. Also, apparently sexy and persuasive."
