Things I Caught At Fandom High

(No, not like that. Perverts.)

FH has caught me by the neck and forced me to order Highlander through Netflix and Hopeless Savages through Amazon. I'm giving serious thought to Pretender. A friend also ahem'd the missing Doctor Who season for me, so I'll be catching up with Nine-and-ears soon.

What about you? What fandoms has FH forced you to investigate?

I'm reading The Persian Boy. My Buffy love has flared anew, and indirectly, I got to watching Showtime's "Sleeper Cell" because of this amazing Oded Fehr crush I've developed.

I've been tempted by West Wing and CSI, but neither are my type of show. Might get into Hopeless Savages and Transmetropolitan though.

Victory! *does the New Convert dance* For ten, I get a toaster.

Firefly, Wonderfalls, Alias... I have, however, continued to avoid the Buffy-verse. Fear my will power!

[identity profile] bens-mikey.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I've started reading Good Omens, although that's one I'd wanted to pick up for quite a while and the game was just the last tilting factor. And I also watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children because I wanted to know who my character was screwing around with. A lot of the other fandoms I'm either sucked into already (Firefly, Buffy, House, CSI...geez, I sound like a pop culture junkie) or I haven't interacted enough with characters from them to pique my interest.

I reread "Hamlet" (to prepare for plot-ness and because yaye!) Also, I sat with my roommate and asked questions while we watched an episode or two each of Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG1, and Farscape, instead of my usual "flee-from-the-room" that I always do when she watches the sci-fi shows. :D To tell you the truth, I'm still confused, but hey! I'm trying!

I'm also researching how to go about watching the 2,937 volumes/spinoffs/whatever of Final Fantasy so I can watch Advent Children and know what's going on. Because I really want to watch that. :D

[identity profile] ten-and-chips.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
See, I too am anti-Buffyverse.

[identity profile] hawktobias.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Best way to know what Advent Children is about is to play Final Fantasy 7. But it's so good it might suck you away from FH...
Many say FF7 is the best game ever made and it's for good reason. ^-^

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I am *anti* Buffy-verse, just that I'm not exactly pro. Anti would imply an extreme dislike which leaves the impression that I've seen enough of it to make that judgement. And, as my avoidance skills are above-par, I don't have enough info to take that kind of stand. *g*

Can you really play a Gundam Wing character and say you flee from the room during sci-fi?

Good Omens -- gotta move it up to the top of my To Be Read pile.

I'd also like to request that no one watch Charmed beyond season four because...gah.

[identity profile] persian-eunuch.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Queer as Folk, because how long have I been under a rock not to notice this show? Bad Bagoas-mun. Bad.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yayy! *flashes V-sign at Pretender interest*

I have to get Hopeless-Savages. Just have to. :>

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Animorphs! How sad am I that Rogue is leaving? *cries*

Now you make me want to reread this series. All of it. I could do it in like...a week. Don't tempt me. ^_^

I would have to say Farscape has been the one that has been introduced to me through this game though I have to say my interest is up concerning Smallville and Charmed, I have only seen season one of Charmed.

*sighs* I think I'm going to have to start watching Stargate:Atlantis again. And I have to admit to being intrigued by Buffy and Angel - though given that I don't do the vampire thing I don't know that I can watch them. *sighs again*

[identity profile] wraithbaitjohn.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh.

House

Nuff Said.

[identity profile] wraithbaitjohn.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Woot! There's some really good stuff coming up on SGA next half-season. (torrents are my friend.)

And if you haven't seen "Duet" go, run, watch. Funniest thing *evah*.

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't do the download thing generally. Sigh... But I watched Aurora last night. Very fun. ;)

Are you on? Not showing up on AIM.

[identity profile] wraithbaitjohn.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not anti-Buffy verse either, I'm kind of Buffy-neutral. And around some really zealous fans it's all the same to them. I've seen all of them (I think), because I had a roommate who was big into Buffy when it started stripping on FX. I know enough to converse with the Buffy-verse characters and get *most* of the canon jokes, but I'm not dashing out for the DVDs any time soon.

[identity profile] wraithbaitjohn.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Aurora was okay. The whole thing with Rodney saying the Wraith-chick was hot was pretty good. And Teyla and Ronon trying to stall Caldwell was amusing. You need to see Duet. :)

I flipped on AIM... I'm just now waking up, so don't expect a lot of coherency. :)

[identity profile] 02maxwell.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*makes note* I'm pretty sure my cousin has all the FF stuff; I might have to steal it from him. :D

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*shifty eyes* PowerRangers:SpacePatrolDelta *cough* None. Really. No investigation. A friend got me hooked on Highlander about the same time I started playing the Game. And now I am a squealing Methos fangirl.

[identity profile] 02maxwell.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mostly because of the way I got introduced to them; I would only catch an episode or two while my roommate watched, and they were too confusing to follow since alot of actors play different roles on each show. I got into anime first, so all the gray-matter is already being consumed trying to keep that straight, since at last count the original Gundam universe has 8 sequels and 5 spinoff series--who each have their own sequels. ;)

My 8 year old brother has been reading it and it rekindled my childhood obsession. ^-^
Tempt tempt!

[identity profile] hawktobias.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I just think the funniest thing about Power Rangers now is that Tommy's still in it! Talk about commitment. Or lack of better acting skills

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Many, all of whom got on hold until I actually have oh, time? Which should be in under a month, woo. But the fandom I already knew (House, Charmed, Buffy, Pretender, Song of the Lioness, Animorphs, um...Law and Order?, Good Omens) all got rekindled. A lot.

[identity profile] bens-mikey.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen any other FF stuff, and I didn't feel too lost watching AC. A few things probably went over my head, but it stands alone fairly well.

[identity profile] bens-mikey.livejournal.com 2005-12-11 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The more you watch it, the more you will appreciate just how fantastic Deb's player is at playing Deb. Seriously.

*has not been rewatching S2-S4 obsessively to glean as much as possible for Michael and Ben*

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-12 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
If you can, get your hands on Season 5 of Highlander. There's a great little feature on Peter Wingfield, and then he does this monologue about his road trip with Alexa. I was in my bunk for a week after watching it.
