Sample Application

Player Name: John
Player Age: 25
Contact Email: hullabaloo@gmail.com
AIM: HullabalooFH
Other Characters Played at Fandom High: None

Character Name: Gordon Shumway (ALF)

Potential Character LJ Handle: melmac_alf

Fandom: ALF

Age: 250

Class: Freshman

Appearance:
TIP: All that is needed is a brief description of identifying features to give an outsider a quick overview of what the character looks like.
ALF is an alien life form. His body is covered with orange fur. He has a snout, moles on his face and is quite short.

General Background:

TIP: Provide some canonical information about the character's life and personality.
According to canon, ALF was born on October 28, 1756 on the Lower East side of a planet called Melmac. He likes to eat cats. ALF went to high school for 122 years and was captain of the Bouillabaisseball team. His planet was destroyed when everyone on the planet turned on their hair dryers at once, and he is the only known survivor. ALF is happy-go-lucky for the most part. He is a smart alec, is confused by Earth culture and makes friends easily despite the fact that he's an alien.

TIP: Give some info on your character's canon situation.
In canon, ALF ends up hiding on Earth with the Tanners after he crash-lands in their garage. The Tanners hide ALF from the government, military and their nosy neighbours until he can fix his spaceship. ALF spent most of the show engaging in wacky hijinks with the Tanners and trying to catch Lucky, the family cat. At the end of the show, ALF was about to be rescued by other survivors from Melmac when the US military caught him. The story continues in a TV movie set six years later with ALF still in military custody. Two people break him out of his prison and try to get him to a millionaire who is working on building a spaceship so ALF can leave the planet.

TIP: State where in canon you are taking the character from, how the character is coming to Fandom High and why.
For Fandom High, ALF will be coming from during the TV show, at the end of Season 1. The Tanners, wanting to keep ALF safe but knowing that he couldn't stay with them forever, sought out safe places. They found Fandom High. ALF figures that if he survived 122 years in high school, he can manage another 4 while he works on his spaceship.

TIP: Provide information on any special skills or superpowers that the character has, as well as anything important that is coming along with the character.
ALF will be bringing his space ship with him, but in pieces. It cannot work and is unlikely to work until ALF is ready to leave Fandom. Being from a space-faring planet, ALF's knowledge of technology is more advanced than most Earth people but he's not really interested in showing off or sharing. He will not have access to any working technology from his ship.

TIP: Account for any reasons why your character might cause too much trouble to other characters.
ALF likes to eat cats. Like on the show, he will not actually eat anyone's pet cat unless it's for a plot approved by the pet's owner. All other times, the cats will get away. Earth cats seem to be much sneakier and faster than cats from Melmac.

Links to character/series information:
TIP: Provide 2-3 links to info about your character and their show/book/movie/game/etc. If you cannot find any links because your fandom is too obscure, please give us some details about the fandom.

Problem Solving:
TIP: You're on your own for this one! Answer it truthfully. There is no single right answer. We just want to see how well you'll deal if something comes up.

Writing Sample:
TIP: We don't know you. We don't know your character. We don't know how well you know your character and how well you have a grasp on the character's voice. This is where you show off those mad skills. We like proper spelling and decent grammar. A good estimation of the length needed to show off your character is about 300 words.

"Does anyone else smell a cat?" ALF asked, looking up from where Sam Winchester was beating him at Chinese checkers.

"A...cat?" Zack Addy asked from the couch.

"Yeah, small, furry, tastes like...well, cat." ALF was on his feet. "I definitely smell a cat. My mouth's watering and everything! Here kitty," ALF called. "I shoulda brought my salt and pepper. Maybe some barbeque sauce. The honey barbeque stuff." He saw a flurry of fur pass the common room doorway and he was off in a flash after it.

The sight of a big furry guy waddling at high speed after a cat through the corridors of Fandom High's dorms wasn't the weirdest thing the students had seen, but it did attract some attention. ALF almost thought he had the black cat cornered when it shot off in the opposite direction and got past him.

"Hey! Get back here. I missed lunch!"

"Not likely," the cat called back.

ALF stopped in his tracks. "A cat that talks? You gotta be kiddin' me! I like my meals without a vocabulary."

Faithful the talking cat had sensed that he was no longer being chased and stopped as well for a moment. He turned and looked at ALF. "I think not."

"No?" ALF laughed. "And who's gonna stop me. You?"

"If necessary," Faithful said with a flick of the tail that caught ALF's attention and made his mouth start watering again. "I would recommend against attempting to eat any of the cats here as they are under my protection, but I doubt you'll listen."

"You doubt correctly!" ALF declared. "I've got a food chain to uphold." Faithful gave the feline equivalent of a 'harrumph' and darted off. ALF shook his head and headed back to his game of Chinese checkers. "Either I just met my match, or the best dinner of my life!"
