Fandom's Getting Festive

*spams you with modposts*

The island's getting into the winter holiday spirit (not that it's willing to stick to just one holiday) for the month of December. Every day up to the 25th, there'll be a new random wintery event, and yes, this can spread to the alumni and expatriates as well.

For the sake of being able to plan your playing, we're going to let you know the schedule for each week ahead of time, starting with this one!

Monday, Dec. 1st: Cocoa Day! Cocoa flows instead of water. Mod your favorite flavors pouring out of sinks and appearing in mugs all over Fandom.

Tuesday, Dec. 2nd: Every tv on the island will be tuned to the Yule Log when you turn it on. Yes, you can change the station.

Wednesday, Dec. 3rd: Fandom By Candlelight: tiny flickering candles will appear on flat surfaces all over Fandom. They won't set anything on fire, or burn you if you touch them, but they will re-light if you blow them out!

Thursday, Dec. 4th: Leave out your shoes the night before. When you wake up, you'll find them filled with candy.

Friday, Dec. 5th: Up on the rooftops! You'll find weetiny snow-white horses gamboling around up there.

Saturday, Dec. 6th: Fandom hates your diet! It smells like fresh-baked cookies everywhere.

St. Nicholas Day is December 6th!!!!

*should probably stay out of this :D*

DECEMBER 5TH!

Don't listen to the Flemish!

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm listening to my mommy!! We always celebrated on December 6th.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, December 5th is the Dutch Way. There shan't be another as long as I do breathe!

And I am willing to mudwrestle people for it because bikini violence in mud is always the best way to settle an argument.

... Saint Nicholas is December 6. You put your shoes outside on the eve of Decemer 5 and find the candy on December 6.

Saint Nicholas is December 5th. He arrives in the country in mid-November and if you put out your shoes between then and December 5th, you can get candy. Meanwhile, on December 5th, you get presents, and therefor he is awesome.

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Why would I mud-wrestle with someone who celebrates a kid's holiday? December 6 is the nameday of Saint Nicholas. You put your shoes and letter out on the fifth and he comes around during the night so you find the toys and candy in the morning.

Either way, he doesn't come around during the night of the 4th so... 6th.

*points to comment below* Why would you celebrate a saint on the day before his nameday?

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Because it's tradition!

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's why we get horsies on the 5th! Since that's when he pops up and brings presents to our homes by riding his horse on the rooftops.

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
No. December 6 is tradition.

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
But the shoes are out early!

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's how we always celebrated it when I was a kid.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I would much prefer to wrestle in jello or pudding.

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Over here, the shoes are put out during the weeks leading up to December 5th!

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I have considered your proposal and deem jello worthy of this exercise.

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not here!

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Cause it's the right way ;o)

[identity profile] first-guardian.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
*shakes head sadly*

New Year's Ducks?

[identity profile] water-wonder.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
That is awesome.
