A deeply self-involved and ultimately horrifying mental breakdown? So don't do that part. When I was a young man, I used the idea that Jedi are encouraged to love as a line to impress a cute girl, but at the heart of it, I still believe that's true. It just can't be a selfish love. Your relationship to the person--how you'd feel if they were gone--can't be the defining motivation, and that's a very tricky thing to navigate, which I believe is why the Jedi just avoided it. But there's love between Masters and Padawans, a connection to all living things, to the Force itself--shutting ourselves off from the galaxy makes them distrust us for not forming relationships the way that so many other cultures do. Add in "and also we can move planets with our minds" and it's just a recipe for disaster, you know?
