I was reading scifi that had queer/non-gender normative concepts/characters and a friend recommended them to me. The books have other important themes too of course, like if AIs can be considered people, and colonialism, but it's also a space opera with a lot of humour. The books aren't perfect but I read all of them in one go, and really enjoyed them. I suppose that as a non-binary person myself the unimportance of gender is interesting, and I really like some of the non-normative love relationships too.
And then I just love these characters, although Breq is a lot more difficult to play, maybe because she's the (sometimes unreliable) narrator.
