(no subject)

Now. A Comparative Religions course.

I am interested in what others would like to see, or not like to see in such a program.

Any suggestions?

Wow...the university has actually cleaned out all the old courses, so I don't have access to an online copy. So here's a typed version of the paper copy (ignore any typos):

Religion: Its Nature and Study (2 Lectures)
Hinduism (3 Lectures)
- Hinduism I & II
- Religion in Contemporary India
Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto (6 lectures)
- Indian Buddhism
- Chinese Buddhism
- Japanese Buddhism
- Confucianism
- Taoism
- Shinto

EXAM 1

The Hebrew Bible (3 lectures)
- Creation in the Hebrew Bible (and how it compares to creation stories from close neighbors)
- Covenant in the Hebrew Bible
- Prophecy in the Hebrew Bible
Judaism (3 lectures)
- Rabbinic Judaism
- Medieval Judaism
- Modern Judaism
Christianity (5 lectures)
- Studying Christianity: Significance and Problems
- Elements of Christian Belief and Practice
- Unity and Diversity in Christian Tradition
- Christianity in the Modern World I
- Christianity in the Modern World II: Responses to Modernity
Islam (4 Lectures)
- Islam I, II and III
- Islam in the Modern World
Comparing Religions (2 lectures)

FINAL EXAM

So that's the outline we used. It was team-taught, so not everything is quite equal, and the titles leave something to be desired. And I think there ought to be something on some of the more interesting religions that certain characters here subscribe to.
