Friendslist help wanted!

I know you're all clever, clever people, so can you help me out with my problem?

I currently have 260-odd people friended plus 10 communities. Needless to say, attempting to go through my friendslist is already murder, so I was hoping someone could suggest friendsgroups to create, since on one hand, I don't want to miss potential fun, but on the other, I don't have the time to go through all posts every day, and I would like to have Jake at least shuffling into his classes, even if it's late.

And the only group I have set up so far is Newspaper. *wry*

...and that was the longest sentence ever up there.
Am just home from work and dead tried. Please excuse me.

ETA: I knew y'all were clever. *grins* Much thanks.

I filtered mine into "Friends" - as in, personal journals of students, teachers, etc., and "Official," which is [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh, dorms, ooc, etc. Makes it a lot faster, because this way I read the "Official" one first and actually manage to find my classes, and then I can read everyone's journals.

Hope that makes sense, and if you have a more efficient system, let me know.

That is a kickass idea. Thanks.

Hee! I did:

OOC - which is just the OOC comm
school - which is pretty much just fandomhigh
afterschool - townies, clubs, etc.
students - all the student journals, and fandomdorms
staffaculty - all the staff/faculty journals
townies - which is, I'm realizing now, kind of redundant

Eventually, when Max gets some actual "friends," I'll create a list of people that I talk to the most, so I can check that one more regularly.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I figure I ought to actually further filter the friends one, because that way I don't have to fish through people who Rory doesn't talk to.

By the way? "Staffaculty" = my new favorite word. (It used to be "oligopoly.")

[identity profile] rushmore-yankee.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
STFU! No way! I love ogliopoly! In fact, that's what our network is named, at home. I love connecting to my comcast-router'd network by clicking on "ogliopoly"! XD!

I've been thinking about creating filters by floor in the dorms, as well, to make it easier to connect things that are going on in one place at one time.

I also kinda wish the various academic departments had comms of their own, but that's another thing entirely.

I have a couple different systems.

For this username, because he plays in another game too, I have two comms filters (just of the community journals, the oocs, the main comms, etc), and two more of all comms and players. I may refine that, though.

For my other characters I've got just comms and everybody else, though I'm thinking of dividing it by students, faculty and townies. It's trying to remember who's who that drives me batty for that. Still need to learn names.

Ehh? Call me retarded but you can create friendsgroups that you can read? I know of the ones you make so only some people on your flist can read -your- posts, but it works the other way around then, too?

gah. Three years of lj-ing and i still haven't got the hang of it 0.o

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I do that... but just by visiting the comms themselves. I haven't even bothered going to my friends page. if I set up a filter, it would probably be a group for fandomhigh, fandomclinic, and fandomhigh_dorm.

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, go to.... um... Manage: Friends, and click the 3rd link, "Edit Custom Friends Groups" to set up specific groups. Then if you click "Friends Filter" you can look at just certain custom groups on your flist. These custom groups also apply to f-locking posts to certain people.

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I have a group called "regulars" that are people Rogue regularly interacts with (plus the comms) and it's at http://www.livejournal.com/users/marieann_d/friends/regulars All your groups are going to be like that: lj/you/friends/groupname

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a filter of students, teachers, and then a group of 'regulars' or those that Rogue interacts with more often than not (or who I think are hella funny). If I have time, then I read the whole FL, but let's be honest, I don't really. :P

[identity profile] rushmore-yankee.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's too bad, because a lot of people are playing out of their journals. The filtered friends list is pretty cool. At least, it works for me.

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that's a good point...I have a few things posted in my own.

And I was JUST reading your glasses/broken nose post over on the dorms. Totally laughing my arse off.

[identity profile] scissors--.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh, that's dandy. Thanks :)

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No prob :)

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm. I just tossed all the communities under the 'school' filter, and everything else in 'online friends' and figured if I only wanted to read Dorm posts or something, I'd just go to the community itself. I haven't sub-filtered the personal journals because I have no idea who the heck anyone is right now.

Also, it caused me glee to see we had Jake on here.

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Of *course* I know who Jake is! I've got Circle Chase laying around here somewhere, and most of the original Gambit ongoing. I always liked Jake. *has a thing for obscure Marvel characters*

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I have four personal f-groups:

1. the group that Sam regularly interacts with (all SG-1 characters, most of the Farscape ones, and a couple of BSGs)
2. all students
3. the fandomhigh and fandomdorms communities
4. the OOC communities

I'm planning to set up filters this weekend for my characters.

One of the actual friends each has made and interacted with.
One of people that share each character's living space.
One with the teachers that they have classes with.
One with all the characters in their fandom.

Beyond that, I'm not sure.
