General plans
Hello, everyone.
As mentioned elsewhere, my plan with Shepherd Book is to play him pre-Firefly, which means I'm going to delve into that mysterious past he has. While we don't know too much exactly, I think it's apparent he had something to do with The Alliance (based on the ident card incident in "Safe" alone), and I think it also seems he's had plenty of experience with military tactics and rules (several examples come to mind, 1 in "The Train Job"-- he knows who Niska is, and that alone speaks volumes. Another example, "The Message" has him telling off a government operative based on rules he knows to be true. Etc, etc).
Given this information, it's my idea that Book started working with The Alliance rather young-- high school age. In my mind, he's about 16 or 17 at this point, and on his first "mission" with The Alliance, which he's taking very seriously, although he's still learning and occasionally slips up in the secrecy aspect of things.
So, the idea for the mission is that he's supposed to observe several students who may be of interest to The Alliance. Originally, I thought I'd just have him observing Simon and River Tam, but then I thought that seemed a bit limited, given the amount of students at Fandom High who are immensely intelligent or talented, or both. Underneath the cut is my initial list of people for Book to keep an eye on. I ask you all to let me know if you're averse to being observed, and I also ask that anyone who knows their character falls into the "immensely intelligent/talented" category mention if they'd want to be added to this list. There are a *lot* of fandoms in this crowd that I know nothing about, as well as about 100 people I haven't been able to wade through yet. I know I missed some people.
These are by character names instead of lj id's.
Lily Evans
Rupert Giles
Simon Tam (as the brother of River Tam, he's an Alliance Priority, not to mention highly, highly intelligent in his own right)
Malcom Reynolds (as more a thorn in The Alliance's side, as well as someone of extreme skill and honor)
Chloe Sullivan
Anakin Skywalker
Phoebe Halliwell (those visions are SO very Alliance, imho)
Hermione Granger
Julian Sark (I imagine Julian to be extremely intelligent and capable)
Ginny Weasley
River Tam (see below)
Willow Rosenberg
Sydney Bristow
Jack Shepherd
Veronica Mars
Harry Potter
Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace
Gaius Baltar
Radek Zelenka
Sam Carter
A few other notes:
River, I've started reading through a bit of your journal, and I notice that you seem to be playing River post-Alliance brainplay. My thoughts on THIS are that Book initially sees her, gets excited that he can prove himself to The Alliance, and reports her presence to them. They tell him to hold tight, to see how she will respond to this new environment with so many other extraordinary people, and believe she may be useful at Fandom High somehow, so long as they have someone watching her.
As for many others of you-- I have not had the time to read through all your journals, and don't know exactly how you're playing your characters or the timeline you're playing them on. I'll hopefully be doing this over the next few days, but my schedule does not allow for a lot of online time, unfortunately. I again ask that if you do not want Book observing you, please let me know. He's going to be unobtrusive and simply watching to see what talents and skills emerge. In no way will he interfere with any of your plots or storylines unless we all collaborate and decide that something more than observing should happen.
