okay, obviously I'm dumb, but I have a question

*double checks to make sure this is ooc*

okay... wtf is a Mun?

Fancy-talk for 'player'. ;)

Possibly a bastardisation of 'man', or, alternatively, 'mum'. Both?

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
And Bender rocks!

Hm. I think I have some Futurama episodes around here that a friend tried to make me watch...

*goes hunting*

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
No, I've seen Futurama. I can never remember the specific episodes, but I've seen them.

[identity profile] psycho-barbie.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's short for "mundane".

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well, see? What do I know?

*g*

[identity profile] river-dancing.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking actually that it was a bastardization of "mundane", as in "real life person".

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I had to ask what a mun was too. I've always just used the word 'player'.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_red_xiii_/ 2005-09-18 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Just to toss into the conversation, I've also heard the character as being referred to as the 'pup'.

mun = player
pup = character

[identity profile] jerusalem-s.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate both those. I really, really do. It sounds like household pets with reduced mental capacity. I use player.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_red_xiii_/ 2005-09-18 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I use mun when I'm in a hurry. I will not use pup as I think it's ridiculous.

I prefer player and character because they're, you know, more clear.

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen in some games where the character is referred to as the "sock" as in "sock puppet." I don't like any of these terms, really. :P

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
It took me ages to pluck up the courage to ask. As I'm new to the rpg thing and want to seem foolish, luckily a few people have asked since so we're in the same boat :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/sydney_bristow_/ 2005-09-18 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'd rather not be called mun, I don't know...it seems so negative to me, I say player or personal journal.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah when I found out mun meant mundane I wasn't especially impressed, but mun's quicker to type than player! :)

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also short for 'human' (with incorrect spelling, but right pronunciation for some) depending on who you talk to. I go with that one.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that ones nicer so I'll go with too!

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kind of a dumb word... Don't know. I don't like how it sounds but everyone uses it so sometimes it seems easier to do too.

[identity profile] isnotimportant.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Just think of your mun as the evil Bender in the parallel universe in that cardboard box ...

I never heard mun before I started playing here, but it doesn't bug me -- I see it as a quick way to draw a line in the sand between me-at-the-keyboard and me-Angela. But I'm a really lazy typist.

[identity profile] sparkplugfelix.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the most fucking annoying terms ever.

[identity profile] sharon-valerii.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. If you ever catch either of us using it, you will know we are not us.

[identity profile] rushmore-yankee.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, after a year of playing in a game where EVERYONE uses that, I'll own up to the fact that I say it. Usually in combo with the character name. Like, Maxmun, Remusmun, etc. Really, I prefer "writer" ... but, meh. It's just an idiosyncrasy of LJ-RPGs, I think.

Don't feel dumb.
