Ooookay

RE: http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/78124.html

If any of you were hoping to get your weapons back? Sorry, not gonna happen. Whoever you are, thank you for fucking it up for the rest of us.

Allow me to clarify for the masses

I know who did it. Telling me that you didn't do it has no effect. Everyone calm down. Character pissiness is leaking over onto the OOC on my part, and I apologize for that.

However... the weapons thing is [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor's call at the end of the day. As long as things continue to tend toward violence in the school between students or teachers or students and teachers, the weapons ban will probably stand.

The originally stated goal of this RP was for crazy hijinks... not scaring people. The weapons will remain gone until things have calmed.

This just happened real fast after a bit of a weird snafu yesterday involving the guys... that got sorted out, but still left me a bit wonky about the characters.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.

I have zero problem with people wanting to throw verbal rocks at him. Lie, slander, twist the truth, mindfuck everyone in sight for all I give a shit. People blatantly trying to get others to hunt him down and destroy him? THAT, I have a problem with.

If Angelus@FH had been doing all the nasty shit Angelus@TV had done, and people found out about it - hey, lynch mob central. However, he hasn't, or if he has, nobody's caught him yet.

I probably wouldn't have my nose so out of joint over this if there hadn't already been tons of rampant stupidity over "Let's Get Angelus! Him'n BAD!"

I"m cool with that.

Why not have one of the game mods NPC Lorne in for a day to do it?

We can ahve exceptions for the martial arts clubs and the wrestling clubs.

Well see now I'm giggling. And picturing people coming after him while barefoot and wearing overalls.

Oh, I'm so confused...

Cool. Not the mod, so just asking. And also, when I asked, I wasn't aware that people were having OOC issues too.

I only live to serve. *bows*

I think that's why I'm so pissed. I equate mindless paranoid hate-fueled mobs with redneck inbred ijits.

I try not to associate with those.

Or Angel to have four-way sex with them, not that Angelus would ever admit soul boy sealed that deal.

As far as Angel will admit to, it was a night of him singing Barry Manilow tunes...

Then...er...*offers you a stress wig* What? I'm sure someone makes them XD

I suppose...

It's too much to ask to start kicking the f*ckwit RPrs out and stop punishing the rest of us who are playing by the rules? It's not like any of us can do a damned thing about someone pulling a stunt like that. Honestly, I'm not going to be able to stay in the game if it becomes nothing but punishments levied on the students because some people haven't learned how to RP responsibly. I understand the need for SOME IC consequences, but I'm starting to get really peeved off. All I'm trying to do is have fun and I'm now spending more time worrying about whether or not my character is going to get stuck in never ending detention. That's not fun, and I don't want to be spending what little free time I have on this if this is how it's going to stay. I have to be true to the character I'm RPing, and it's getting hard to do that.

Seriously, I understand the need to mod. But people just need to be banned if they're not going to play nice.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps we should start a thread to deal OOC with what Beka wants to deal with IC. How do we let characters who don't go unarmed be armed without inciting, encouraging, or allowing violence and scariness?

When you take a character like Spider, or Aeryn, or Dom, or Callisto, or Connor and make them go unarmed, they have no choice but to be cranky and belligerent. That spills over into other interactions, and the tensions get high. Er. They get higher.

Take sleep-drived, overcaffeinated muns, cranky characters, an incoming rush of newbies, testosterone and UST, and this place becomes a powderkeg. With or without the weapons.

Mage-spells can be every bit as deadly and more so. Some beings are inherently deadly. Personally, I don't think banning weapons is the answer. I think creating rules for weapon/spell/force use is a better answer.

Obviously, this is just an opinion. And I'm not all that cranky about it. Beka's found a way around it that suits her for now. And she's organized a student meeting (though so far only Dom and Aeryn have expressed an interest). But I do think we need to cool down and try to be creative.

After all. Isn't that why we're here?

*awaits the obviously not far-off day (given the amazing speed with which this RPG has blown through the various stages of fannish projects so far) when we appear on the real one, with mixed horror and glee*

How do we let characters who don't go unarmed be armed without inciting, encouraging, or allowing violence and scariness?

My character's military trained and I'm playing her as military trained. That means reasonable precautions in dangerous situations, ergo, the carrying of a sidearm.

She's not going to shoot without provocation, she's not going to carry on a vendetta, but she's not comfortable in a situation where she has no defence - which is what she's seeing here after her roommate told her about Angelus.

I don't know if her carrying a weapon was one of the actions that caused the crackdown on weapons-carrying, but I felt it was IC for her to at least go secretly armed.

Re: morbid and creepifying storylines - let's just say that I'm not comfortable with my character running around and having sex with everyone in giggly adolescent fashion. I'd much rather have her do plots and socialise in conversations about topics, than suck face/do bondage/angst in romance/have hawtsexx0rs all the time. A little of that goes a long way. As such, the wariness of Angelus provides an alternative undercurrent to all the teenaged emotions running high.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but that's just my opinion.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I got into this for the fun factor. From silly plots to sex games and talking about things like cross-universe space travel, etc.

The angst and drama, which I, very unpleasantly and unfortunately contributed to, was not what I got into it for. I regret it immensely, and blame it on sleep-deprivation and stupid obsession. Whatever. It's not something I enjoyed, and not something I plan to do again.

I enjoy the chance to interact with my favorite characters acting the way they would act, either as teenagers, or like Sam as not teenagers stuck in teenaged form.

Beka's world is a dangerous one. She'd never go unharmed, and while she likes to wave her weapons about for effect, she'd never actually use one on a student or teacher unless she was attacked. She's resourceful and crafty and while she's got no fear of using a weapon, she's not going to go off half-cocked.

And I'm not sure if this is at all responsive to what you're saying. I don't think we're on exactly the same page, because I enjoy the sex games, being a romance writer, it comes sort of naturally. But I wouldn't want this to be all about that. Been there. Done it. Bad feelings all around.

So... anyway... I'm glad you posted.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but I've been horribly neglectful with him. He's barely interacting with people.

Which makes sense, I suppose. I mean, it IS Donnie.

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
See, I like the cross-universe space travel ideas, and the interactions with all kinds of weird and bizarre crazy characters; I like the classes and the learning, the interactions, and, yes, the weird and freakifying!

Organising River and Sam's rescue of Chiana from Moony was enjoyable in its own way: particularly since the characters all came from different universes and had different expectations of each other. It wasn't as easy as kissing, cuddling, fondling, sex, but it had challenge to it. It had bite (bad pun not intended).

I don't mind the flirting and teasing and dating, but I can't do it with the will and determination that a lot of the 'cool crowd' mun do. And so Sam isn't part of that "and then they done sex" group and is feeling more out of it with every party.

That's one of the difficulties for the mun who aren't comfortable with that behaviour in their characters - there's nowhere for their plots to go except: "Went to class, spoke to X, laughed with Y, end of day."

We all got in for the fun factor. Exactly what that 'fun' entailed differs. My idea of 'fun' is having Sam interact with other characters and having them interact back. And the totality of her interaction isn't sex.

Which is why I've sent her out looking for new friends and talking to new people.
