Ooookay
RE: http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/78124.html
If any of you were hoping to get your weapons back? Sorry, not gonna happen. Whoever you are, thank you for fucking it up for the rest of us.
Allow me to clarify for the masses
I know who did it. Telling me that you didn't do it has no effect. Everyone calm down. Character pissiness is leaking over onto the OOC on my part, and I apologize for that.
However... the weapons thing is
principalconnor's call at the end of the day. As long as things continue to tend toward violence in the school between students or teachers or students and teachers, the weapons ban will probably stand.
The originally stated goal of this RP was for crazy hijinks... not scaring people. The weapons will remain gone until things have calmed.

However, if there's an issue, maybe someone should seriously speak to the person HARSHLY but understandingly. I'm around to lecture people if I have to.
Or, you know, just help with member management.

And, for the record, I don't think process of elimination ITWASNTMEs aren't going to help too much.

This community does not need Croup and Vandemar around, no matter how much fun I have playing them... but they just don't fit the fabric of the direction this community has. Being morbid and creepy is nice and all, but does not fit most people's definition of fun. Plus, given that I'm running 3 other characters anyway, I'm just going to post their closing then delete the journal.

Can't there be stuff that's morbid and creepifying without being overtly violent?

And no, I wasn't involved. I just think it's a good plotline.

The violence is supposed to remain off-campus for the comfort of the players who responded to the call for crack!rp, not horror/violence!rp.
The comment is OOC because it doesn't belong anywhere else... although Spider would have said it in his announcement, if I hadn't been afraid of exactly this sort of overreaction.

Life without some tension would be pretty boring, no? I just don't understand this reaction. Why are people so upset? I am asking this in all sincerity.

This violates that six ways from Sunday by blatantly inciting that.
IC Actions = IC Consequences.
The Principal and Spider have both done totally insane things to protect those they perceive as under their care. Canonically. This violated that. Totally.
They will both go completely off the deep end.
Half the characters at this school are not here for the violence and the creepy. Violence and creepy is fine... but in such a way as to involve the entire school... is not. They did not ask to be involved in this. Most of them are already unhappy about the weapons ban and, frankly, this is not a horror RP. It is not unrealistic to expect that there are characters here who do NOT want to be a part of such things and making something like this schoolwide takes that control out of their hands.
There are people who now have characters who are going to be totally upset by this... and there's a good possibility they didn't want to be upset or even involved. Something like this is more or less guaranteed to send the school administration into a total, frothing rage... and so it has. *shrugs*
This will affect the entire school body and some people are not happy about that... as is their right.

I suppose...
Seriously, I understand the need to mod. But people just need to be banned if they're not going to play nice.

When you take a character like Spider, or Aeryn, or Dom, or Callisto, or Connor and make them go unarmed, they have no choice but to be cranky and belligerent. That spills over into other interactions, and the tensions get high. Er. They get higher.
Take sleep-drived, overcaffeinated muns, cranky characters, an incoming rush of newbies, testosterone and UST, and this place becomes a powderkeg. With or without the weapons.
Mage-spells can be every bit as deadly and more so. Some beings are inherently deadly. Personally, I don't think banning weapons is the answer. I think creating rules for weapon/spell/force use is a better answer.
Obviously, this is just an opinion. And I'm not all that cranky about it. Beka's found a way around it that suits her for now. And she's organized a student meeting (though so far only Dom and Aeryn have expressed an interest). But I do think we need to cool down and try to be creative.
After all. Isn't that why we're here?

My character's military trained and I'm playing her as military trained. That means reasonable precautions in dangerous situations, ergo, the carrying of a sidearm.
She's not going to shoot without provocation, she's not going to carry on a vendetta, but she's not comfortable in a situation where she has no defence - which is what she's seeing here after her roommate told her about Angelus.
I don't know if her carrying a weapon was one of the actions that caused the crackdown on weapons-carrying, but I felt it was IC for her to at least go secretly armed.
Re: morbid and creepifying storylines - let's just say that I'm not comfortable with my character running around and having sex with everyone in giggly adolescent fashion. I'd much rather have her do plots and socialise in conversations about topics, than suck face/do bondage/angst in romance/have hawtsexx0rs all the time. A little of that goes a long way. As such, the wariness of Angelus provides an alternative undercurrent to all the teenaged emotions running high.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but that's just my opinion.

I think as long as it's IC, there shouldn't be a problem. Because see, you have someone like Veronica Mars (picked at random), high school student, doesn't have to deal with day to day violence in her life. And then you have someone like Harry Potter, who can use magic and lord knows that would probably make a character or two uncomfortable. Or you have Angelus, who is going to do something creepy because the username is a huge clue as to the motivation there. Or you have several characters who are going to want to be armed because it's what they know and that is their character.
Playing a character who's grown up with the military life and knowing how to handle weapons? She's going to be pissy as hell being separated from her weapon for that long. There's even a line in the show about her even showering with her pulse rifle. She's going to find it safer to actually have a weapon rather than being relatively defenseless and the thing is, IT'S IN CHARACTER. It's cool to find a middle ground or something, but this became a plotline I didn't want Aeryn to have but I feel I need to take it there because that's what she would do.
So find a way to mediate it, but taking it away completely can actually change the character, and that's not cool, either.

That having been said, allow me to repeat. HIGH SCHOOL. There are a number of players here who seemed to have missed that entire point. Wacky hijinks aside, there were no weapons bans till players started complaining that they were going to have difficulty/no fun running their characters in an atmosphere of fear.
I'm very, very sorry if you're upset by this...
But I think I can safely say, at this point, that I'm the one getting the most grief.
Again. HIGH. SCHOOL. Adventures and wacky hijinks. IC actions equal IC consequences and the school was not meant to and will never be a place where the students are afraid of anyone but the monsters and the administration. If your character needs a weapon to feel 'safe'... then we have a serious problem.
