Ooookay
RE: http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/78124.html
If any of you were hoping to get your weapons back? Sorry, not gonna happen. Whoever you are, thank you for fucking it up for the rest of us.
Allow me to clarify for the masses
I know who did it. Telling me that you didn't do it has no effect. Everyone calm down. Character pissiness is leaking over onto the OOC on my part, and I apologize for that.
However... the weapons thing is
principalconnor's call at the end of the day. As long as things continue to tend toward violence in the school between students or teachers or students and teachers, the weapons ban will probably stand.
The originally stated goal of this RP was for crazy hijinks... not scaring people. The weapons will remain gone until things have calmed.

When you take a character like Spider, or Aeryn, or Dom, or Callisto, or Connor and make them go unarmed, they have no choice but to be cranky and belligerent. That spills over into other interactions, and the tensions get high. Er. They get higher.
Take sleep-drived, overcaffeinated muns, cranky characters, an incoming rush of newbies, testosterone and UST, and this place becomes a powderkeg. With or without the weapons.
Mage-spells can be every bit as deadly and more so. Some beings are inherently deadly. Personally, I don't think banning weapons is the answer. I think creating rules for weapon/spell/force use is a better answer.
Obviously, this is just an opinion. And I'm not all that cranky about it. Beka's found a way around it that suits her for now. And she's organized a student meeting (though so far only Dom and Aeryn have expressed an interest). But I do think we need to cool down and try to be creative.
After all. Isn't that why we're here?

My character's military trained and I'm playing her as military trained. That means reasonable precautions in dangerous situations, ergo, the carrying of a sidearm.
She's not going to shoot without provocation, she's not going to carry on a vendetta, but she's not comfortable in a situation where she has no defence - which is what she's seeing here after her roommate told her about Angelus.
I don't know if her carrying a weapon was one of the actions that caused the crackdown on weapons-carrying, but I felt it was IC for her to at least go secretly armed.
Re: morbid and creepifying storylines - let's just say that I'm not comfortable with my character running around and having sex with everyone in giggly adolescent fashion. I'd much rather have her do plots and socialise in conversations about topics, than suck face/do bondage/angst in romance/have hawtsexx0rs all the time. A little of that goes a long way. As such, the wariness of Angelus provides an alternative undercurrent to all the teenaged emotions running high.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but that's just my opinion.

The angst and drama, which I, very unpleasantly and unfortunately contributed to, was not what I got into it for. I regret it immensely, and blame it on sleep-deprivation and stupid obsession. Whatever. It's not something I enjoyed, and not something I plan to do again.
I enjoy the chance to interact with my favorite characters acting the way they would act, either as teenagers, or like Sam as not teenagers stuck in teenaged form.
Beka's world is a dangerous one. She'd never go unharmed, and while she likes to wave her weapons about for effect, she'd never actually use one on a student or teacher unless she was attacked. She's resourceful and crafty and while she's got no fear of using a weapon, she's not going to go off half-cocked.
And I'm not sure if this is at all responsive to what you're saying. I don't think we're on exactly the same page, because I enjoy the sex games, being a romance writer, it comes sort of naturally. But I wouldn't want this to be all about that. Been there. Done it. Bad feelings all around.
So... anyway... I'm glad you posted.

Organising River and Sam's rescue of Chiana from Moony was enjoyable in its own way: particularly since the characters all came from different universes and had different expectations of each other. It wasn't as easy as kissing, cuddling, fondling, sex, but it had challenge to it. It had bite (bad pun not intended).
I don't mind the flirting and teasing and dating, but I can't do it with the will and determination that a lot of the 'cool crowd' mun do. And so Sam isn't part of that "and then they done sex" group and is feeling more out of it with every party.
That's one of the difficulties for the mun who aren't comfortable with that behaviour in their characters - there's nowhere for their plots to go except: "Went to class, spoke to X, laughed with Y, end of day."
We all got in for the fun factor. Exactly what that 'fun' entailed differs. My idea of 'fun' is having Sam interact with other characters and having them interact back. And the totality of her interaction isn't sex.
Which is why I've sent her out looking for new friends and talking to new people.

This makes sense, and fits with Sam's character. I'd like to engage in some more of the kind of plots you're talking about and more general silliness so that this doesn't become either a chore or the kind of exercise in "I'm not cool enough" that high school was when I was in high school.
I'm not sure whether your comments are directed at me, or if we're having a conversation. So, if directed at me, then, I agree, apologize, and am also trying to diversify.
If conversation, then...well, the same. :)

The premise is wonderfully cracky with immense potential. The actuality is considerably more difficult to realise.

Hope we can make it more fun for all of us.

*rubs forehead* I had something a bit over-the-top planned for this weekend and I hope I can still offer it. I even had something worked out to get us over/under/around the weapons ban for it.

Hey. Tell me. Our plotting against Camulus and arming ourselves against him...was that a bad? It was all a joke. Considering Bek and Cammy were flirting up a storm, giving Kawalsky a weapon was sort of just a "hey, dude, don't be such a chicken". My oh so bad if that contributed to this madness. *headdesk*
