General response

I'm really, really worn out now.

In the interests of not attempting to wade through the morass that my last post has become, allow me to share some general thoughts.

Anyway. Issues, problems and concerns:

1. Too many rules.

This is entirely a matter of perspective. If you don’t like this style of play, I’m really sorry, but it’s how this game is set up and how it is going to be run. As has been pointed out, there are lots of other games out there and while we will be genuinely sorry to see you go… these are the rules that have been chosen by the admin of this game and they’re meant to enforce a High School environment. There’s always the town to play in if you don’t want to follow the School Rules, but until things have settled down a little and we’ve found a good balance, things aren’t likely to change. Have patience. You might grow to enjoy it.

2. Cliquish behavior and being accused of it.

Hey, if there are people you get on with and play with well, have at. All we ask is that you try to also interact with people in your classes you don’t normally talk to and try not to completely flood the rest of us in a million threads all about the same people. There’s been a LOT of variety and mixing up that I’ve seen since we addressed the complaints the first time, and I haven’t heard any complaints since, so this is currently a non-issue as far as I know.

3. Not enough ‘mixers’.

We’re working on that, but as so many of the teachers we were hoping to draw on for mod duties of this nature have disappeared, I’m not certain what we’re going to do yet. We have Homecoming, Student Elections, Parents Weekend and a proposed Halloween Party at the Haunted Mansion. Stay tuned for further details.

4. People aren’t complaining to the admins, but are doing so in their personal journals. Therefore there must be a problem.

There is a problem. It is that they are not actually complaining to people who might actually do something about the problem or even solve it. This is called being self-defeating.

5. Difficulties with multiple logins.

This one, if you have internet explorer, is easily solved. I have more lj and gj accounts for RP than I will readily admit to in a public place, so I do a few things to keep things more or less in order.

A. Drag my start menu bar to the side of the screen instead of the bottom. This means I can have more windows open without having them all fold together. I’ve had up to ten different logins for Livejournal open at the same time.

B. Do not lock your login to one id. Log in once, in a separate and newly opened IE window (not using ctl-n) for each login. Then you have an easy way to check all your accounts and threads without having to constantly log in and out. It also helps prevent responding from the wrong id.

Once again, if you have problems or issues, please leave voicemail messages for the admin or send them e-mails. Comments being left in the long threads are being lost or overlooked and are not a reliable form of information. The admin contact information is listed and we are here to try to make sure that you have a good time. Please, please be nice to your admins. We are trying very, very hard still just to get the base rules in place and to make sure we have all the various bases and situations covered. This game is just over two weeks old. It contains an enormous number of players and characters and the rules are being devised and worked on to give the most number of people the greatest amount of fun.

Once the groundwork is finished, there will hopefully be less of the chaos of the unhappy variety and more of the crack! variety. Please have patience until then.

Edit: P.S. I am going to find headache meds now and won't be back till quite late.

I, for one, really appreciate all the hard work you're putting into this RP. And I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but this is the most fun I've EVER had RPing. You guys are doing a great job.

ooh thanks for the pointers on multiple logins...i knew there was a way...

How about a 'give spider sex & money'-fund? ;) It will be a fundraiser and a mixer for the students, all at once 0.o

The Webmaster of Doom will take a little of that sugar. ;)

Yup, props to you *all*!

When I was trolling through the library's video section, I accidentally stumbled across some Raxacoricofallapatorian pr0n that was shoved into a PowerPuff Girls Season One DVD. If he liked the whole ten-breasts holo pr0n thing, he'd probably like this.

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*looks around nervously*

I'd also like to add that I grabbed the PowerPuff Girls DVD completely by accident. It was right next to the Friday The 13th box set I meant to grab. I'm a big horror movie fan. HUGE. I'm totally too old to watch cartoons.

*slinks off to watch Cartoon Network*

[identity profile] scissors--.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
didn't you know? They -always- hide the Raxacoricofallapatorian pr0n in children's cartoon dvds 0.o ;)

((OOC: i just spend 20 minutes trying to pronounce 'Raxacoricofallapatorian'. What is this 'life' you people keep referring to? 0.o ))

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
(( Dude. I've repeatedly watched the clip from Boom Town where Rose finally learns how to say Raxacoricofallapatorius so I could learn how to pronounce it, too, and I still have no idea. I'm a bad, bad Doctor Who fan. XD ))

You're far too nice to all of us. And I second what everyone else has said- I appreciate all the work you're doing, and this is so much fun.
And I'll totally contribute to the sex and money fund.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure a lot of things will go away automatically once we're playing longer. I'd like to add that I do really appreciate the work you are all putting into this and it's been fun playing.

Hope the headache clears soon.

Thanks again for all the hard work, Spider-mun, and good luck with the headache.

I know that this game grew way bigger, way faster than I guess anyone anticipated, so a chaotic beginning was kind of inevitable. We've got players from backgrounds that range from "old-school hardcore gamer" to "never done this but it looked like fun," which only adds to the chaos. All things considered, I'm really pretty impressed with what the admins and mods have done to lay groundwork so far.

I think you guys are doing great and I've been having a blast.

Having had a migraine all week, I hope your headache gets better.

[identity profile] medusae-x.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem was that nobody could anticipate what the rules would need to be before the game began, so now they're being made up as it goes along, and people are whining and bitching.

*shrug*
Biased. I hate watching my friends develop bleeding stomachs from stress.

. . .

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what? I'm just going to bite my tongue here. Better part of valor and all that.

Just gotta say...

I appreciate everything the mods are doing, and the ambitious individuals who have gathered, organised, and posted the various lists such as student rosters, class schedules, contact info, and the like. And, letme not forget to specifically mention the web ste as well.

I know you must all want to beat your heads against the wall with all the no-shows and drop outs and people wanting to bring in new characters when enrollment is closed.

As far as the rules, yeah it would have been so much more convenient if these thins (esp the weapons ban) had been in place *before* the game started, but in a huge game, sometimes things crop up that couldn't have been anticipated before hand, and action has to be taken. As a mod in another game, I know it's sometime difficult to shake things up after play has started...But sometimes it simply has to be done. Anyone who strongly objects can always walk.

I for one, love this game. I need to get Connor and Boone more active, but House has the clinic and Oz has found an in with Duce and Wednesday and Red and Remus (at least during the full moon, heh) Plus he has other Buffy/Angel kids to run with if he wants.

So yeah. Thank you. For all you o. I'm one of the ones who truly appreiates it.

Regarding #5, another suggestion: I use Firefox for Ten and IE for [livejournal.com profile] rhipowered. It's a bit heavier on the system resources, but it keeps things clean (don't have to keep logging back in if things crash and burn).

I love my Spider *snuggle*

I haven't had any problems with the game yet, aside from a few things that were mostly just problems with certain people, but otherwise I love how this game is being played, and it really is one of the games I actually don't find myself ranting about to other people. Which, even games that I *mod* I have a tendency to complain to people about :x

In other words, two thumbs up!
