Homecoming in Chicago?

Are there enough of us in Chicago/Northern Illinois/NE Indiana/S Wisconsin/whatever for me to try and arrange a meet up for homecoming?

I'm thinking either a Starbucks or something with wireless or, depending on how many of us there are, my place (also wireless)

(idea shamelessly stolen from psycho_jackass)

There are at least two of us in MN who'd be willing to trek to Chicago for it.

heh. I was just thinking of holding one up here for the northern CST folk.

Damn, anyone in central IL/Champaign area? 'Cause THAT would be kickass. I might be able to swing a trip to Chicago, except for the lack of laptop.

No laptop here either. :( And I live in the Chicago 'burbs.

Now if my parents would change the "we'll get you a laptop for graduation" to "here's your early graduation present" I'd be so up for it. Drat.

We could always do a get-together at a different time and not worry about posting. We could grab seats at a coffee shop or something and start freaking the mundanes with our insane Fandom High blather.

We'll need nametags, though, with our characters' names. Otherwise I'm going to have no clue who most of you guys are.

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
So true! Of course, that will just freak people out too: a bunch of people with "Rogue," "Padme," "Medusa," etc nametags would probably freak me out too! ^_^

Maybe we could wait until after the next enrollment? See if we get anymore keen people? (Er, the Tick might have rubbed off on me...)

*giggle* We'll just tell them we're part of an interactive dramatic performance group. It's what the local LARPers do if they're closet gamers. Which I am sometimes, actually...

So do you go to UIUC? I did college there. Loved it so much.

And since we don't know when the next enrollment is, do we want to wait on it, or go forward with plans?

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oo, good plan. We could memorize some Shakespeare and quote it to each other. "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" Or something more obscure (or made up) because that'd be way funnier.

I do, and I love it here. Pretty much got thrown here (in state, low tutition, good school) and wouldn't trade if for the world. ^_^

Hmm. I'm up for anything. I'd have to know at least a couple weeks in advance, to make sure I can get it off from work, so Oct 7 may not be a good time for me. Oh! We could make the zombie shirts and pass them out then! ^_^

Personally, I think we need to do a dramatic reading of some of the Best Of Fandom High. Unfortunately, there's a lot to wade through for that, because everyone here is so brilliantly insane. But we could so do it!

I know the feeling. It's in-state and was far enough away from my family that I could not have to see them every weekend. So are you in the dorms, or avoiding cafeteria food and in an apartment instead?

I must have a zombie shirt!

But yeah, the weekend of Homecoming is also my birthday weekend, so I should be around to do family things (husband, kid, parents, pregnant sister-in-law along with brother and baby nephew). We could always do a social gathering another time for those of us who can't cluster in a wireless hotspot and post. :)

We could! Everyone needs to pick out their top three quotes, and I think we'll be good. What's the chance that only three quotes will get picked?

Oh, I'm in an apartment. I lived in my sorority house the past two years, but I was ready for an apartment. Though I'm not sure I like all these monthly bill things. They're kind of annoying. ^_^

Yes, social gathering. Though my suburbanite friends might be confused as to why I'd go to Chicago by myself, seeing that the city (or rather, the highways) scare the living bejeesus out of me. Chicago drivers are NUTS!

I'm in the Ann Arbor, MI area, so I could try and make the drive. I'm not sure, though.

I have a friend in Lansing who plays. She may be amenable to carpooling.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs, but I'll have to check the timing. Homecoming is on a Friday, right?

I live in Chicago.

*sigh* We need more New Yorkers on fandomhigh

Hn. Real-time homecoming. While I might not mind meeting a few of the Greater Chicagoland Area people, I know that day won't be any good (as there is one car in this household and my roommate (also a player here) will have it tied up until 9pm central, working. Could do a wireless cafe, can't do LAN because my computer is housed in a freakin' server case. There is a 24hr wireless cafe a block from my house here in Milwaukee, though, and I wouldn't mind doing a generic meet-up at some point just to actually meet other people. Trying to actually get posts done, however, makes it slightly less attractive.

Maybe if we found a different date, possibly the Halloween party? That would give more people time to plan, though that means I can't go party dressed up all nutty. We could dress up as our chars! ^_^

No, I haven't been eating double chocolate chunk cookies washed down with koolaid all day and on sugar high like whoa. What makes you ask?

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-09-26 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm dressing up all nutty anyway. Otherwise I'm stuck in dress blues and a lab coat!

We could always dress as our characters in costume, which would be more wild for those of us with baseline human appearances.

I'm in the western Chicago 'burbs. Except--I post from a desktop and have no way of lugging it someplace and getting wireless access. Any way I can work out getting 'net access to do Homecoming for a meet up?
