I suggested a poll as a reason to sort out and clarify the arguments in the weapons ban thread, and Spider said it might be a good idea.

Unfortunately, I can't make a poll. Does anyone have a paid account and would like to post this poll? [in fandomhigh, I guess?]



A box poll where you can select multiple options:

1) Weapons Ban

_ I want weapons because I want weapons.
_ I want weapons because zombies are scary.
_ I want weapons because my fellow students are scary.
_ I want weapons for some other reason. [see below]
_ I don't want more weapons and think the weapon ban should stick as is.
_ I don't care either way.

2) Registration
_ I think those with guns should demonstrate competence before carrying them.
_ I don't think those with guns should demonstrate competence before carrying them.
_ I DO think magic users should register their abilities as weapons.
_ I DON'T think magic users should register their abilities as weapons.
_ I have a different opinion on the register thing [see below]

It'd not be pretty, but it'd get an honest and clear-intentioned response from the masses.

If you don't want to use these options, you could write up others. But I think a poll of some kind might give people clear positions.

Actually, I did have an option for leaving the weapons ban as is. But if someone wanted to add options, they should I can't actually post the poll so it'd be up to them.

Would it be needlessly confusing to discriminate differentiate between projectile verses non-projectile weapons (a gun verses a sword, for example)?

it might be, yeah. I mean, people with knives who know how to use them can throw a knife into someone's throat almost as fast/effectively as people who can shoot a gun. Besides, I think Connor already consider knives/swords as part of the same category as guns when it comes to the weapon ban?

I think all weapons: guns, swords, wands, etc should be registered and the owners should demonstrate competence.

I think it's really interesting that we can have such a heated debate, as long as we can differentiate between IC and OOC.

It is interesting. It's also interesting because most of the characters chosen qualify as "good guy" characters-- people you wouldn't normally think of as being particularly prejudiced. But the arguements have still been raised despite people keeping mostly in-character.

As for Angela, I think she feels safer with a gun ban ... but she also recognizes that access to guns was pretty key this weekend, and is happy Marty taught her to shoot. So she'd probably vote for, "I don't want more weapons and think the weapon ban should stick as is," "I think those with guns should demonstrate competence before carrying them," and "I DON'T think magic users should register their abilities as weapons."
