Student Elections - Debate Anyone?

In case you've always wondered what a dean of students does, his essential function is to act as the liaison between administration and the student body. He is the judge, jury, and executioner who cares. Unless he's Jack Bristow. Not so much with the caring then.

Student Elections are in full swing. I propose a debate to be held next week. Any office where more than one candidate expresses interest in participating may engage in a war of words. Any office where only one candidate is interested or there is only one candidate may give a brief speech outlining their platform. The debate will need a teacher "moderator" to engage the candidates with points to discuss and whatnot. If this sounds boring, then you have not met anyone who actually attends this school.

Please express interest here and we'll work towards organizing a date.

ME!!! *CJ jumps at the chance* I want to be the moderator!

That sounds like a great idea

Rory is so into the idea of a debate. Seriously, she's all excited - and she doesn't even like public speaking.

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Get over that, but quick, missy...

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. She's horrible with the whole talking thing in general. Put her in front of people and she becomes even less articulate.

Oh, and random - CJ does know why Rory's not doing the trust games anymore, right?

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
((Nope, CJ doesn't know. If you tell her, she'll kick some ass though))

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. Good to know. *makes a note to tell CJ at some point*

*is gleeful on a scale never before seen*

"Thank you, Dean Bristow. Really. Thank you."

If you can come up with a brilliant way to integrate the radio station in (I could do a separate play-by-play or use it as a place for students to call in with questions before the debate for any non-moderator generated queries), please let me know.

*was a campaign staffer in RL, so is totally, totally into this idea*

*in that suddenly perfect English she gets sometimes when speaking to authority figures*

I would like to propose a town-hall type section of the debate, where the student body would be able to ask the candidates questions directly.

I'll happily offer a statement or debate if I have an opponent.

I'll.. help. With something. Anything. Um, yeah.

I'll debate, but probably only in the latter half of the week (damn uni *mutters, grumbles*)

((OOC: I love you. I'm seeing some wild shouting and arm-waving from Spider in the face of Jack's implacableness if they ever disagree which has me rolling on the floor laughing hysterically, but man. I am so happy right now....))

I would certainly be interested in debating.

Can write-ins debate? I'm not formally entered in the nominations, so I'm hoping to get a lot of people writing me in.

[identity profile] master-of-fear.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay *smirks* As long as I can participate in some way and ruin any chance for my candidate to win I can't complain.

Sounds fine.

Anya's o.k. with it, as long as she can talk about money.

I'm a late addition to the Batsh*t Crazy ticket, Dean Bristow, and this is a declaration of intent to run for Liason for Administrative Affairs as a write-in.

I hope to speak with you about this at some point, as I have not seen any clearly stated outline of what the duties of the office are, but I imagine they would be merely a reflection of your own duties from the student side of things.

Thank you.
