Fandom Radio Problem - Let's Discuss

It seems like some people are getting frustrated with [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio broadcasting information that they don't want public.

Here's my proposal - Let Fandom Radio count as OOC information. It's really just a tool for all the major plot threads to be gathered in one place, and if we start blocking individual plot threads to keep other characters from knowing about it, then the muns lose the chance to keep track of what's happening. But all the characters shouldn't know what's happening all the time.

Campaign ads and other publically broadcast announcements could still count as IC information. Maybe the DJs could put little IC tags around such items? (Sorry, guys, don't want to make more work for you, and huge thanks for doing this in the first place!)

*passes you one of Piper's brownies* I'd been using it like this already otherwise all sorts of threads would have been really confusing. So yeah good idea to suggest eveyone uses it as such

OOC I have zero problem with it. It's fantastic and I love Ash-mun, Barabarossa-mun, and Faith-mun for doing it. Outstanding work, fun, and something I read every night. I even stay up 'til it comes out.

IC, it's a problem for Beka. She's working her ass off to rehab her image to suit her own schemes, and of course she's going to be pissed when the radio either blows her cover or sticks to the old line.

No way should it go away! It's way too much fun to plot against them. It's cool to have the town get more involved. I *love* interacting with the radio and leaving snippy little notes. XD

See, the Doctor considers it His Own Damn Fault for going out in public to take care of some certain business.

So while he's angry, he doesn't entirely blame Ash. It's Ash's interpretation that makes him want to slash the punk's throat with his claymore upset.

But that's the freedom of the press, so he accepts that as how things are.

Could a notation of some sort be included in original posts if people don't want their info going up as public info?

Something like this [DNB] (Do Not Broadcast) in the subject line, to indicate that a thread is open for discussion (not locked as we use it), but not to be announced on the radio. That way things that CAN go public, still do, but you won't end up stepping on toes.

That way anything that's left unflagged is still fair game. And it's really not that hard for people to put a few extra letters on something they don't want being broadcast.

I totally agree. I love the radio as a recap of the day's events and appreciate all the work put into it, but when people take the information in it as IC when there's really no way the radio would know about it, it causes problems and frustration. So I like it as an OOC recap (and you can follow threads and use common sense as to "Would my character have seen this?" if something takes place openly in a class room or something. Someone walking into a place of business in town wouldn't necessarily be a secret unless the character is skulking about and says they're making sure no one is looking, but the actions inside the shop (or dorm room) wouldn't be public knowledge unless your character was there).

But OMG! If it was OOC but IC, we'd have entire plots of OOC but IC. We'd have OOC but IC radio-tower raids, we'd have OOC but IC threats (which would be OK because then Beka could threaten to shoot them without getting suspended...hee!)... it'd be like a whole new game layer.

AR Fandom High! *snerk*

[pouts] But it's all drama! CJ's mun isn't mad at all, but is having rather a lot of fun conspiring with Daniel...

And to justify, Ash flat out said he was in full shock-jock mode. Shock-jocks are prepeared for backlash.

I like it the way it is...and it was completely IC for Ash to say what he said. I think all non-filtered and comm posts should be free game, but I think it's fun to have some fallout.

That's my 2cents.

Game on!

Right, but if there's something you don't want people jumping in on - say for example you're having a conversation in the coffeehouse that you don't want people jumping in on, you flag it [DNB] and then it goes in the OOC section (You can know about it, but don't jump in on it). Anything else that's left for open broadcast is also open for people to wander into the coffeehouse, overhear and comment on.

Am I making things needlessly complicated?

Sigh. After my inbox exploded on Thursday's radio posting, I guess I should've expected this.

Seriously, folks... Sorry if we're encroaching on someone's territory or something, but the people who gather up all the threads can only do so much reading, and then, (in the case of when I'm doing the posts as Ash), I do my best not to be encroaching on anything that'd seem "unfair knowledge".

With the amount of work it takes to come up with those recap posts, if it's simply an OOC work, I'd feel like I was wasting my time, since technically, then, it's a broadcast to nobody. I might as well just post the giant summary lists that I get to work from, and leave it at that.

If people want it to be IC, we'll have to establish a new set of rules and guidelines, I guess.

If people want it to be OOC, well, that's okay too, I guess. But it means certain IC threads will have to shut down... and I was kinda looking forward to CJ's revenge.

Not just that, though... if they decided to make FR an in-game canon thing, it could possibly add yet another layer... and, in fact, already has for a lot of other storylines. I mean, you wouldn't wanna beat the horse to death or anything, but Fandom-Radio-based plotlines, I think, would be very interesting!

And, also - just putting in my vote here, as well - please don't get rid of Fandom Radio...

Here's a thought: what if we all used some common sense? I mean, if something takes place in a dorm room, and it's on fandom radio, you don't act on it, but you, as a player, can read it. If something happens in the Perk, or the park, or in the common room or class, someone could have, theoretically reported it to the radio station, and it's fair game for characters to act on.

Come on, seperate Player from Character. It's not that hard to excercise common sense.

(PS Love to the DJs!)

Okay, people, I've worked in retail and food service for going on six years now. Please don't prove me wrong here like I've been proven wrong SO MANY TIMES at work. KK?

Exactly my point. Common sense. For the CJ/Daniel plotline, I'm going on the fact it was said, and then Anya brought it up in class (which, please notice, Barbosa reported and I have no issue with...come to think of it, Barbosa called CJ maudlin on Monday last and she did drunk dial him...hee).

I wouldn't be doing it otherwise...

However, if it's really a problem, we can stop. We're slowplaying and I don't have a problem stopping. I just thought it would be soething fun for CJ to do that isn't the Doctor

Sorry. Just a little grumpy today.

The funny thing is, if we make it totally OOC? We'll actually have more work. Cause we won't be filtering out anything from the broadcasts...

...this is something we really should be talking to Barbossa-mun about.

Absotively! Same here! Was just kinda chiming in with Beka... didn't mean to make it sound like I thought you were calling for Barbossa's deejay headphones on a platter or something... heeee!

*gives Logan a cookie*

I always thought it was OOC -- basically just to keep all the players up to date -- but it does seem like people are treating it as IC. I agree we need to make it clearer one way or the other, and your proposed solution is fine.
