Admin Statement - on the subject of Chronofluidity.
All right. Apparently there is some confusion as to time and the state of play here at
fandomhigh
The classes have schedules for a reason and, unless a specific class is clearly stated as 'chronofluid' you cannot be in two places at once. Period. There have been a few field trips that also muck with the flow of time, again clearly labeled.
You, being a real person, are allowed to post in most classes whenever your schedule permits over the course of that day. Your character, however, is tied to the constraints of their schedule. You cannot be in plot B and class A at the same time. You cannot be in player X's bedroom while out drinking with player Y and spying on player Z in the undergrowth.
This is why so many of the posts are clearly labeled as to time of day and place. Your character cannot, save when adjusting for specific classes and field trips, be in two places at once unless it is in their canon to do so. Please keep these limitations in mind.
Slow-timing, save in the case of off-campus field trips, off-campus events, people in opposite time-zones, extremely large school events or emergency is strongly discouraged. This is because many people are slow-timing one thing while proceeding with other things and playing over the top of themselves. As this is occasionally producing plot difficulties, we would ask that you try to keep things as much in real time as possible. Yes, there will be exceptions... but do NOT have your character doing more than one thing at a time if you can avoid it. If you have to slow time something while doing something else... put the priority on the slow-time and finish it.
Clarification of the above: People in time zones not shared by the bulk of the school are still free to do whatever they have to in order to play. They are allowed slow-timing as it is the only reasonable way they can sometimes get things done.
There has been some resentment expressed over people with multiple characters who are slow-timing one thing while keeping up with real time with their other characters. Try to keep an even balance people, and save slow-time for when you really, really need it.
Addendum: School policy is no ret-conning or backdating. If it didn't happen on time... it didn't happen. Period. Please be aware of this, as offenders may very well be shot.

Now, can you explain what ret-conning is?

...Happens a LOT in comics.

As a corollary, is it even permissible for two characters to say they did something together in that way or is it only those things that are played so that people can read them that are permissible?

But the way I've always RP'd is that we decide the outcome of the interaction so that the characters can go on in their daily lives, and it won't interfere with their IC knowledge. I have no idea if this works for FH, though.

I have the AfterHomecoming Party going on in 239/240, I set the post to remain active unil late Sunday night MST and would like to know if it's okay to keep that one open that long or whether I should give warning and close it. I set the post this way because there are a multitude of people in different timezones and because with the massive size of the dance I know there are people (Myself included) who are still trying to wade their ways through it all. If leaveing the post open is unacceptable please let me know and I will change it accordingly. Either way there are only a few people talking in it right now and most are having convos with people who (At least appear to be) in largely different timezones.
I alsonhave one post with the other people in room 239/240 that has been slow-timed over a matter of days. We have done this because each and every one of us active in this post is in a different timezone and at least two of us have classes we have to attend during certain hours. So the only way to do something with all the people we put in the room is to do it for about and hour a night at between midnight and three am depending on the player. And for Kawalsky-Mun I think it's even later than that.
Actually come to think of it 239/240 has this tendency to slow-time because one of the players just switched to BST and another two seem to only be on around midnight my time (MST). As for the backdating I've only done that once (I think) and that was when I lost power for a day and missed and RP I was suppossed to do with another Mun.
Anyway. Just asking for a tad bit of clarification. Thank you.

Last night for example, Cam picked up Kara, they went to a nice dinner and then to the dance. But, in actuality, we only RPed out the picking up and went straight to the dance.

Hanging Characters Out to Dry?
A while ago I was going back and forth with a character when my ferret had an allergic reaction to her baby food (true story... odd, but true) and I had to send an OOC that said, "Gotta go to the emergency vet, we can finish later," and run off.
Now... have I stuck that *other* character in my thread until I can come back and finish it off? Or can we not ever go back and finish it if the other character moves on?
And what happens to my character? Do I need to wait until the other person is around again so we can wrap it up before I can go to class or talk to someone in the rec room or whatever?
Or does this become a special case for slow-play to wrap up the discussion at some point while letting the other character go to class/a club meeting/have a cup of coffee in town?

Last night, Oz and Duce after the dance, we tried to get them to wrap things up so I could go to bed, pushing 2am. It clearly wasn't going to happen, and I knew also I wasn't going to be around today, save a few minutes in the afternoon. We worked a couple comments, but the thread is still hanging, despite the effort to get it closed.
I understand the aversion to slow time, and I try to get my threads processed all in one sitting, sometimes it simply isn't possible. I've pushed myself, in this game and in other games, to try to get a scene to a reasonable point before crashing out for the night. I am always hesitant to ask for slowtime, but everyone I've had to ask for it has been very gracious and understanding. And for the most part, it's not big plots I'm slowtiming...
When 11pm EST rolls around, and I watch the clock creep up and up, and my alarm is set for 6am, I really don't have much choice but slowtime, or short my characters because I can't function without sleep, and real life has to come first.
That said, I appreciate posts like this that help clear the confusion many people are experiencing. I've been role playing for a number of years and still it's nice to have refreshers every once in a while. You're doing an amazing job keeping the comms and the game running as smoothly as a game this size can run, which is no small feat, especially with players dropping off like flies.
So thank you, for all you do to maintain the peace and to clear up the confusion. I don't envy you.

Good, I feel a little better. I try not to slowtime anything that is plotty or involving more than the one other character I'm playing against. Sometiems you just...have to.

With the sheer volume of posting, anything slow-time can be totally lost in the scruff and if anything that really changes a character or a character's plot is done... 90% of the other players will never be aware of it.
Slow-time is all right if needed to work around a RL event or if it isn't anything terribly plot-specific or will affect anyone other than the characters involved... but there's a lot of it going on atm, and we really need to keep everyone more or less in the same 48 hours or so.

Slow-time is not disallowed, merely discouraged in cases where it isn't, strictly speaking, necessary.

Re: Hanging Characters Out to Dry?
As long as what you were doing was idle chit-chat/relationship stuff... fine. Take the time you need. Go ahead and play over the top if you have to, but what we're really trying to avoid here is having something unexpected happen in that RP which could/would affect what you've done time-wise AFTER that.
... because that sometimes leads to ret-conning which fucks everything up.
We're DISCOURAGING slow-timing, not telling you that you CAN'T.
Because, let's be honest. With the volume of posts in this game... if you didn't finish it on the day, probably no one will be reading it but you and the other player.

I stated specifically that those in odd time zones could do whatever was needed in order to be able to play. In fact, I went back and clarified it.

That is against the rules in every conceivable way.
If you moved on to do something and merely posted that something happened, the best way is probably to make a post for it in your own journal at the same time - mark it as 'dinner and sex goes here' and move on. You can then go back and fill it in if you like as long as:
1. There is nothing at all basic plot related or that might possibly affect another character who is not present.
2. Dinner and sex is ALL that goes in the post. A randomly decided romantic trip to the park is not permissable as other things may have gone on in the park which you would then be time-travelling through.
As to your second question, you don't need to play it out as long as the characters affected/involved agree that it happened... and that you make sure that whereever you chose to do this didn't already have band practice/gremlin invasion/whatever going on there at the same time.
... which is the sort of thing we're striving to avoid.

If it helps any I only slow-time slightly, two days for a post on average because I'm MST and apparently everyone goes to bed at like 8 or 9 Arizona time.
Thank you for the clarification and I for one really appreciate all the work you and the other Mod's do. Keep up the good work!
