Detention Info - Spring 2006 Semester
Cower, students. I'm in charge of Detention this semester, so if you do anything wrong, it's in my domain. Be afraid. Really. Why are you not cowering right now?
For the official rules of detention, check the handbook. This post is where I will attempt to explain how it's working and provide a couple rules clarifications.
Basic Overview
Faculty members give detentions to foolish students. Students then lose their Saturdays to detention from the time the detention post goes up to the time the faculty member dismisses them. Good? Good.
Faculty
You will have the opportunity to volunteer for Detention. At the end of each month (or, in the case of January, in just a few minutes), I'll post a signup for the next month of detentions in
fandom_lounge. I'll be accepting two volunteers for each week, one primary and one alternate. This should be self explanatory, but the primary is the person who will be doing the detention. If they have to back out, it becomes the alternate's job. When you sign up, you give me permission to bug you a few times during the week of your detention.
On that Monday, I'll e-mail you to remind you to come up with some activities. Ideally, you should work out about three or four activities to keep people busy. Detention should give people plenty to do during the day. Additionally, a sign-in thread and a lunch thread are required. No students will starve on my watch. If you wish to starve the students, wait until you know I'll be AFK for the day.
I'll leave you alone for a few days, then on Thursday morning (my time) I'll e-mail both volunteers to see if they have a plan and are still available for Saturday. If the anyone has to back out, that would be a great time to do so if you know in advance.
Then on Friday, teachers will submit their detention rolls to
fh_office. I'll compile the list and e-mail you when I have the list set at the end of the day. Those are the people you should expect on Saturday. If somebody doesn't show up on Saturday, let me know.
If at any time you have to back out, let me know. If both volunteers back out, Tick will run detention. His detentions will involve lecturing. Lots of lecturing. Just warning you. Please give me some warning before I have to type that much.
Students
You got into detention. Participate in detention. It should theoretically be kind of fun (At least from an RP perspective) while still being kind of punishment (At least from a character perspective). In other words? OOC/IC Funishment. That's our new phrase. Learn it, use it, promote it.
Any new IC interaction outside of the detention post while you should be in there will get you in trouble. There will be yelling. Old slowplay will be allowed as long as it is not just a wacky way of trying to get around detention and it doesn't take away from your RP in the detention post. New slowplay will get you in trouble. OOC comments will not get you in trouble as long as you're not going crazy with them and it doesn't take away from your participation in detention.
Got that? Basically, show up for detention, participate, abide by our continuity rules about being in two places at the same time and you're fine.
I will be watching to make sure that people in detention follow these rules. If I catch you in new posts outside of detention? You're in trouble. Again, yelling.
If you are unable to attend your assigned detention due to RL reasons, contact me OOC. My e-mail and AIM are listed in my userinfo.
Questions?
If you have any questions or concerns, either comment here or contact me. If I have no answer, I'll bug the admins.

And that pun about bugging the admins was completely unintentional. But it is pretty good.
