Detention Info
At the cusp of a new semester, it seems like a good idea to remind everyone how detention works at Fandom High. I am your detention mod. If you have any detention-related questions, please ask me.
Basic Overview
During the summer semester, detentions will proceed as usual. Faculty members and workshop instructors are within their rights to assign detention for any reason. Additionally there is a weekly lottery in which a student's name is picked at random (from a list of people who signed up on
fandomhigh_ooc that week)who will get detention because Dean Zordon is experimenting on sekritly auditioning all of us.
Detentions are run on Saturdays in the
fandomhigh community, generally from 10:00-5:00 PM EST. Times vary. As do time zones.
Faculty
Yes, this applies to current faculty as well as townies and graduated seniors who are running workshops this summer.
Responsibility #1: When someone gives a detention, they MUST submit the student's name and a link to the thread where the student earned the detention to
fh_office. If you don't do that, I can't guarantee that I saw it and the student may go unpunished. Don't let them get away with that!
Responsibility #2: You can sign up to run detention on a monthly sign up post that usually goes up on the last Saturday of the previous month. May's sign up post will go up today in
fandom_lounge. Even if you're not a member of that comm, comment to the post. I'll unscreen it. It's just going there for the sake of consistency so I can better keep track of sign ups. :)
When you sign up, I will e-mail you at some point during the week of your detention and make sure that you're still in and you're coming up with an idea. I'll make sure you have a list of students with detention late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Detentions take place in the Danger Shop so you can pretty much do anything as long as the students are unharmed by anything you planned at the end of the day. Your detention should consist of a series of activities - four or five is a good rule of thumb - plus sign in, lunch, sign out, and OOC threads. Please embrace the OCD and get those threads up before opening interaction. With a post that goes on all day, the OOC thread is very important.
In general, you don't need to approve anything with me, but use your best judgement. If what you're planning might scar the students emotionally, check to see if it's a good idea. If your detention is part of some kind of plottiness, let me know in advance.
You can use
fh_extras in your detention, but you need to clear that with the admins just like you would if you wanted to use that journal for anything else. E-mail them a day or two in advance and let them know what you want it for.
Clearly state in the main body of the post when you will be dismissing the students. This allows everyone to plan out the rest of their day.
And if for some reason you cannot do the detention you signed up for, please let me know OOCly. If someone signed on as a backup that week, they will be responsible for running detention. If nobody did or the backup can't do it either, Tick will handle the detention.
Students
Funishment. That's the word. Detention should theoretically be punishment for your character and fun for you. Whether it's an IC consequence of your IC actions or you signed up for it and were picked by the lottery, you're there all day, you should enjoy it.
Due to our continuity rules and trying to make sure that you focus on the detention interaction, your student will be unable to participate in any other new threads until the person running detention dismisses you. You can't be in two places at once (shut up, Jamie and Z) and crazy stuff often happens that could very well affect the rest of your day. Please respect this rule.
Slowplay, preplay, a brief pre-detention morning post, and other kinds of playing that don't appear in game canon until after the detention is dismissed are fine. If you really need to get started on other things in live threads as well, ping me on AIM and clear it with me first. If I'm not around, there are admins who can answer your questions.
If your student can canonically make duplicates of themselves, thus defying normal continuity rules and you want to play with that in relation to detention, talk to me in advance.
Visitors are not allowed in detention unless the person running it allows visitors during lunch. Anyone not on the detention list will be told to go away.
If you are unable to attend your assigned detention due to RL reasons, contact me OOCly.
