What's In A Name?

LJ names. We all have them. We probably think some of them are pretty clever. But to someone who doesn't know your fandom, your LJ handle may not make any sense whatsoever. So I thought I'd ask:

What does your character's LJ name mean, and how did you decide on it?

Since it's my bright idea, I'll start!

multiplez: Well, her name is Z, and she multiplies. I tend to say it like 'multiplex' with a z, which, yes, sounds funny.

swerval_zero: Her name is Zero! Zero doesn't always use actual words, preferring instead words she makes up herself. I tend to tone this down at FH because a lot of people don't get it. 'Swerval' is a Zero-speak adjective, meaning something like 'awesome' or 'cool.'

screwyoumarvel: In the recent Marvel Crossover Event Civil War (tm) (yes they really trademarked 'Civil War') Steve got killed. So, screw you, Marvel. It gives me vindictive glee to type his username every time I sign in. :D

kawalsky - speaks for itself really. It's his name.

ismyhairout - Hades' hair is made of fire. When it gets blown out, he gets pissed, but he doesn't always realise it's out until a few seconds later.

imissmydolphin - Lucas' BFF is Darwin, the dolphin. Says a lot about his social skills really. He had to leave Darwin behind on SeaQuest. WOE for him.

no_toast_thanks - in the second book, Thursday goes on a talk show and is pressured by the host to eat toast. She states adamantly that she really doesn't like toast and it's a big funny scene where she finally eats the damned toast to appease the Toast Marketing Board, the sponsors of the show.

turtle_toughguy - Raph is the enforcer of the brothers. He's the tough guy. This is emphasised in the movie by him having a Brooklyn accent for no good reason. :D

kirk = Rodney McKay refers to Sheppard as "Kirk" whenever the women throw themselves at him or Sheppard flirts with a woman. (Because they have the secret love that shall not be named and Rodney is the jealous)

Thus, ltcolkirk. And I don't think I even thought of it. That would be my BFF who does not play the FH but totally reads it.

I've often wondered this about peoples' names myself! Good idea!

sound_loyalty: Kabuto is a ninja from the Hidden Village of Sound....and he's know for his unswerving (or so it seems) loyalty to Orochimaru. Also, it can be read in the alternate meaning of 'sound' meaning 'steady'. It was designed to be multi-meaning.

electric_sitar: Another play on words. I like those. But for Demyx it's a little less Deep and Meaningful. His instrument is a sitar, but it sounds like an electric guitar. And...uh...I thought it was cute.

tiger_bouncer: Not a lot of deep thought behind this one. Kou's symbol is a tiger, and he's a bouncer. I'm so creative! :D

can_be_more- It's a line from the very first episode of Farscape. Aeryn refuses to leave at first because being a Peacekeeper is all that she is and John tells her "You can be more." For the record, i hate this line, but I was kinda flaily on day one of the game just getting the journal set up to get Aeryn reserved, la.

fates_jaye- fates_bitch and all variants of were taken. Because Jaye is fate's bitch.

smartestone- Amazingly, every possible username I could think of for Hermione was already taken by HP fangirls. And Hermione is rilly rilly smart omg.

trickster_twin- The enemies in the NJO, the Yuuzhan Vong, have this legend of the Slayer and the Trickster, which end up being associated with Jaina and her twin brother Jacen. He's the slayer, she's the trickster. And she makes them regret ever calling her that.

mparkerceo I originally had mparker16, then changed it to mparker17, and when her 18th birthday rolled around, was wondering if I was gonna be changing her name every year (I didn't expect this game to go this long!) but Krycek very coolly suggested mparkerceo. Her name and her ambition.

bound2blade It's Setsuna. She's obsessed with swords. Sword is everything to her. She is...bound to it. ta-da.

senor_chado was orinigally senor_chad but I forgot the password to that. This one works out better, though, as the Senor refers to his Mexican heritage and "Chado" is how Chad is pronounced with a Japanese accent.

soldtoarmenians comes from the Buffy episode Inca Mummy Girl (one of the many bad-date examples of why Xander is not allowed to complain when people from Sunnydale ask if Bridge is a demon) wherein Buffy asks Xander if he's ever participated in an exchange student program before, and Xander replies, "My Dad tried to sell me to some Armenians once - does that count?"

needsaparrot comes from a conversation that Xander and Willow had when he's in the hospital shortly after losing his eye and they're each trying to cheer the other up and failing miserably. He says he might need a parrot to complete the pirate costume; she suggests a peg leg because maybe the hospital will hook him up with a 2 body parts for the price of one deal.

namelessblade This one's complex. Pretty much, Kenpachi can't use his full power because he never bothered to find out his sword's name. And after all that neglect, it has so far refused to reveal it's name. Very important to Bleach technicalities, knowing your blade's name. LJ hates me and won't let me post long comments so that's all I'll say.

bigdamndean: One of the Firefly catchphrases is "big damn heroes" from the episode "Safe" (iirc, and I could totally be wrong, because I don't have my DVDs right now...) when the crew showed up to save Simon and River from crazy people who are trying to kill them:

The "dean" part is because Zoe was originally the Dean of Students, and I just never bothered renaming her journal when she became the principal.

halfshell_hero - I made this one before Mikey's band of brothers chose their "turtle_****" monikers, and well before I thought his brothers were even going to join the game, and I was just too lazy to make a new journal for him. "Heroes in a halfshell" has been a popular turtle slogan for ages. Turtle Power!

futurebucs_star = Someday, Anders will be the captain and star player of the Caprica Buccaneers. Evidently in canon the abbreviation for the team name is spelled "C-Bucks," according to a bumper sticker on a car, but that episode hadn't aired yet when I created the journal so HOW WAS I TO KNOW? Besides, "C-Bucs" makes more sense to me! Ah, but that was just the beginning of my career of being jossed . . .

connernotconnor = In canon, Conner is getting an autograph from a pop star named Kylee Styles, and tells her to make it out to "Conner with an e-r." I have flogged this joke to death in game. In the credits, and all the official stuff, his name's spelled "Conner." BUT! In his big character-development episode, they spelled his name wrong on the title card: "The Passion of Connor." So, the username is both a reference to the "with an e-r" thing, and a crack at TPTB for not getting that right.

queen_of_zagreb = In the Hedwig and the Angry Inch stage show, Hedwig tells the audience that Yitzhak was once "the most famous drag queen in all Zagreb." Hence the username. There, that was simple.

blossomsofice = Sakura, of course, is the name of the Japanese cherry blossom. Sakura Nishihori is frequently referred to as being "cool" or "cold," because she's so emotionally aloof. It's a double pun, though, since all the Boukenger characters' family names are taken or adapted from the names of Japanese explorers or adventurers, and "Nishihori" is adapted from the name of Eizaburo Nishibori, who among other things captained the Japanese Antarctica wintering party.

carter_i_am: Sam Carter came with the username when I adopted her, but I assume it's because "Sam_I_am" from Green Eggs and Ham was already taken.

jarodpretends: Jarod has no canon last name, so I went with what he does (pretending) instead.

lilpunkinbelly: In the fifth season episode, "No Place Like Home", we find out that Joyce Summers used to call Dawn her little punkin belly. Buffy never had a nickname, so I thought it was a nice link between Dawn and Joyce. Especially considering what happens to her belly later in the season, it's a great moment of Joss foreshadowing something that actually happens.

kypriothschoice - If I knew Aly was going to be apped as a permanent character instead of just a guest star when I made the journal? I so would have not chosen the name. But Aly's patron God is the Trickster - Kyprioth - and he chooses Aly to set the plan of rebellion in motion. Never let it be said that I am not literal.

southernbender - This is seriously my least favourite of my usernames, but I couldn't find or think of anything else for Katara. She's from the Southern Water Tribe. She's a waterbender. *sigh*

im_fullmetal - His canon is Fullmetal Alchemist - which refers to Ed by the title he was given when he became a State Alchemist. This Edward isn't technically a State Alchemist anymore, but the name still fits. (And seriously, do you know how hard it is to find a journal name for Edward Elric?)
