What's In A Name II?

It's been just under a year since we did this one last time. And, since we've had new students, townies and teachers since then, I say we do it again!

What does your character's LJ name mean, and how did you decide on it?

[identity profile] ihaveniceteeth.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Gwen's comes from the fact that while Eve Myles has lovely teeth for the most part, that gap is very distracting.
doubleohblonde: (Bond is OOC)

[personal profile] doubleohblonde 2008-05-14 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a reference to Bond's hair and the fact that certain of the crazier Bond-fans got really wanky over the fact that unlike book!Bond (*points to icon*) or the previous movie!Bonds, Daniel Craig is blond and the people involved in the production were shockingly more concerned with making a good movie than dying his hair dark.

It's an example of my severe dorkosity. I'm a big fan of this Dutch pop-rock band called Krezip (or at least I was for their first couple of albums); one of their earliest hits - and one of my favorite songs - is called In Her Sun (http://www.muzikum.eu/artiesten/krezip-125/songteksten/in_her_sun_stupid-1320/).

Now Korhal's a significant planet for Kerrigan because she hails from the organization called the Sons of Korhal, which was formed after the government bombed Korhal to hell and back.

...Since you can't technically stand in her Korhal, on it was.

YAY RANDOM DORKINESS. YOU HELP ME PROCRASTINATE.

*cough*

[livejournal.com profile] time_flyer_5 - The Time Force Megazord is not, technically, composed of smaller Zords: it's the Time Flyers. Or Time Fliers. Whatever. Jen's is #5, thus the username. Not one of my more clever efforts. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] laceycantlie - Because it's true. It's not that she's got a sterling sense of honesty: it's that she's absolutely, completely lousy at lying and everybody can tell.

[identity profile] lordofthecats.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Lion-o is going to be Lord of the Thundercats one day, hence the name.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Cable, meanwhile, went through a couple of different potential LJ names before this one popped up, mainly because of his 'original' last name (Dayspring). I rolled it through my head a couple of times and found I kind of like the multiplicity of meanings (not to mention that it's just this side of pretentious, as should be for a man who named his freaking island nation 'Providence') that you can attach to the name - lost his spring (lost his new beginning), dayspring lost (out of time) etcetera etcetera.

ETA: Also? It has the exact same amount and division of letters as [livejournal.com profile] mouthy_merc, which was not intended but continues to amuse me to this day.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Murdock's is pretty easy; he's a pilot and he's crazy. But since crazypilot (and nearly every variation thereof) was taken, I had to add something to it. I probably could've put 'dude' instead of man, but eh. And he says 'man' fairly often anyway, so I guess it works. *g*

G'Kar's ([livejournal.com profile] gkar_lastkhari) was a bit trickier. 'gkar' was taken as well as everything else I could think of. Including 'book of gkar'. Hrm. So I had to get creative. The 'lastkhari' is exactly what he is. The Kha'Ri was the name of the Narn government before Centauri invaded. Upon their surrender, the Centauri arrested and executed all the members of the Kha'Ri. Except one. G'Kar was on board Babylon 5 at the time of the surrender and Captain Sheridan gave him sanctuary. Though they wanted him extradited, they couldn't touch him without risking conflict with EarthGov.

So in short, G'Kar is the last surviving member of the old Narn Regime government, the Kha'Ri. Hence, the name.

In high school, Jeff tried to make his eyes mist up like the way you always saw love scenes in the original Star Trek.

Whenever he saw hot women, that is.

Hence, they called him Scary Jeff.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] stupid_toasters was one of the easiest names I've ever come up with. For those that know even the littlest bit about BSG, you know the Colonial Fleet is involved in a war with the Cylons. The Cylons are called by a variety of names, one of them being toasters.

Lee is not a fan of the Cylons. Hence, stupid toasters. I love the name like pie.

Lee, however, totally loves Sam Anders. Really. He's the exception to the rule.

*g*

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeff tried to make his eyes mist up like the way you always saw love scenes in the original Star Trek.

I seriously just about fell out of my chair with laughter at this explanation. OH JEFF.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] new_to_liirness - just after flying out of Southstairs, Liir discovered his 'liirness', the fact that he was a person in his own right. As such, since he came to Fandom from shortly after that, new_to_liirness.

[livejournal.com profile] suit_of_sables - Geoffrey's is (surprise surprise) a snippet from Hamlet (since the man has a love/hate relationship with that play throughout the whole series and especially first season). This particular one was picked because of the giant black coat he seems to favor, wrapping himself up in it or letting it open. It's a real character piece and it reminded me of the way he made the actors in the first season pick one piece of costuming that would represent their role as opposed to a full outfit.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a line that Hoshi uses about how math is just a language, right before she shows the chief engineer that she can hack into the ship's systems.

My other two are boring. [livejournal.com profile] mike_cannon is his name, obviously, and [livejournal.com profile] montecito_east was a last-ditch attempt after my first three choices were already taken.

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM LAZY so I'm doing this all in one fell swoop:

[livejournal.com profile] senor_chado: The Japanese pronounciation of his name gets a little -o added to it, and the Senor is meant to be a send-up to his Mexican heritage as well. Simple, simple.

[livejournal.com profile] stocksgrrl: Also simple. Turtle, she loves that there stock market. I also find that it's amusing that it could also refer to the fact that she owns a general store, so it unintentially took on a bit of meaning of stock as in stocking shelves.

[livejournal.com profile] by137: In Empire Records, A.J. decides to tell fellow coworker Corey that he loves her "by 1:37." Thus...

[livejournal.com profile] ecirpnellehada: It's Adah's full name (Adah Ellen Price) backwards! It's mentioned in the book once, I love it, it's PERFECT. Although I still wonder: why Ellen? So, so random.

[livejournal.com profile] perfectmissyork: Charlotte's last name is York, and she's obsessed with being perfect. OOH CLEVER!

[livejournal.com profile] not_a_mused: I was hoping we'd do this again SPECIFICALLY for this username. I haven't decided if it's the worst pun ever or the best one. Cal is, clearly, a very deadpan guy, and his birthname is Calliope, who is the Greek muse of epic poetry. Therefor, now that he's transitioned into the male Cal rather than the female Calliope, he is...not a muse.

+d.

[identity profile] time-flyer-5.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. I appear to have a bit of a track record (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh_ooc/438668.html?thread=7266700#t7266700) of confusing people when I decide to forgo underscores in my LJ names!

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
My canon is magic. MAGIC.

[identity profile] time-flyer-5.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I heart you so much for Cal's username, because I wasn't sure if I was reading all those meanings into it or if you'd intended them all and BOATLOADS OF LOVE.

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] whitedeathpod continues to amuse me even though I've been playing John for two years plus now.

It's a direct quote from Farscape's premiere episode: "You charged my brother’s Prowler in that white death pod of yours."

The white death pod in question was Crichton's Farscape module and he didn't charge so much as end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Because we're just THAT DAMN PRETTY.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
WELL, all those reasons and the fact that [livejournal.com profile] hermaphroditus was taken!

Yes, that's canon.

*cough*

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] sixstandingby was the first and only creative thing I could think of for Gavin. He's a Rogue, he's flown in Rogue Six before and what do all Rogues (and most pilots, for that matter) say before they engage an enemy and/or begin a mission?

"Rogue six standing by."

MY CREATIVITY, LET ME SHOW YOU.

[identity profile] morpherboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Morpherboy: Marco morphs. And is a boy. Creative I am not.

MakesCherries: Cimorene, when trying to convince the dragons to take her on and not you know, eat her, lists of what she is able to do. Among that list? Make cherries jubilee. It kind of stays with her through the next few books, the fact that she "makes cherries" jubilee. ... Yeah.

Threeweapons: In one of Kel's books, her friend Neal describes his Knight Mistress Sir Alanna as wielding three weapons: sword, dagger, and tongue. At least that's what I thought the quote was. Apparently, it's three sharp edges. Oops.

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] death_and_pies was the first thing I came up with for Ned waaaaay back when I created the journal for one of our other random dorkiness posts. It stuck mainly because I loved how dissimilar the two things were. Death's there because Ned's been up close and personal with it way too many times for someone his age (and won't escape it because of that power he has) and pies is for what he likes to bake (having learned from his mother when he was a boy).

[identity profile] notjustaworm.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...Despite his great big muscles and his really big ray gun, Jim is still an earthworm but then he's the only oooone... (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqe9ijbjxfM)

Yep. All just based on a 'clever' (read: boring) mishearing of that line, there.
