Weekly Entertainment

In the interest of giving us a place to chat for those who can't use AIM at work or just want to babble about things OOC for fun, I'll be putting up a weekly entertainment post in the OOC every Sunday. Feel free to respond all week, chat amongst yourselves, go off on tangents, be completely ridiculous, make crack icons, donate to your local animal shelter, or any other off the wall behavior that involves being awesome and fun.

To get things rolling though, here's a question:

Anybody have any interesting hobbies (other than RP)?

I was just thinking about it since a random post in the open forum ended up in me and another player going "ZOMG ANOTHER KNITTER!" and that was really awesome.

Scrapbooking.

Of the not dirty variety.

Considering it's all pictures of my kids?

Yeah, pretty sure. ;-)

I need to get back to speed on it though. I think when last I worked on it, I was doing pictures from Christmas 2006.

I'm trying to pick up my exercize habit again.

Since I decided this, the increase in me actually going running... has been um, precisely nil. Oops?

Scrapbooking was a euphemism at Fandom High for a while a long time ago. I think Marty and Angela started. And it's been a running joke with me and a few people since then.

I've done multiple books for my kids. Between me and their grandfather, there's ALWAYS pictures being taken. I think they'll like them at some point.

It's funny, you know the things you think about at random moments? Like "If I had exactly 10 minutes to save things from my house? What would I grab?" I think my list goes something like -

1) Kids' stuffed animals that they sleep with
2) Scrapbooks
3) Jewelry
4) Laptop

The rest can burn.

(And now from the right account)

HEE!

My housemates are really into DDR as a fitness thing. I? So do not have the coordination. Lefts and rights are totally interchangeable half the time.

Also, I think the internet breeds short attention spans, I have one of those too.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I mean all the photos are uploaded and stored at dotphoto.com. So I'd have access to them. But it wouldn't be the same because I doubt I'd ever be able to duplicate the work that I've put into the books over the years.

Hmmmm... It's 90+ degrees outside with obscene humidity. That might not be such a bad way to pass an afternoon.

Oh, and I also garden. Do you want some zucchini or spaghetti squash? I'm sort of buried in it at the moment.

ZOMG ANOTHER KNITTER. :D I finished my first sock toe ever last week. I still have to take another picture of it.

When [livejournal.com profile] saltandammo and I went to the first Winchestercon, we ended up sharing the hotel with a Creative Memories get-together. It's too bad there weren't more scrapbookers like you there, because they all thought we were kind of strange. :D

I paint. Usually just with oils on canvas.

Also? I Irish stepdance, though only soft shoe right now.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
How goes the rest of the sock?

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's funny.

And yet I've met some people that thought scrapbookers were weird. Particularly when I explained the concept of an all day crop. Or even more intense, an all weekend crop.

That's basically when you take your stuff and turn up someplace to scrapbook for hours, or days at a time. It's sounds strange, but it's amazingly productive.

Scrapbookers are a lot like fandom people though. They even have wank of their own (http://www.journalfen.net/community/otf_wank/587727.html)

To be honest, I'd actually rather run outside than most anything else. If it's a nice day, and I'm in the country, I absolutely love it.

Only problem is that where I live (most of the year), it is usually drizzling and cold and I get funny looks for being the nutter running around in the rain. *woes*

ZOMG ANOTHER KNITTER! Ahem.

I knit and crochet. I also read to a slightly crazy excess, travel as much as a college student without a car can, and play Sims 2.

Oh my gosh, I've been wanting to learn to stepdance for years and years and years now. But I keep telling myself that I'd end up tripping horribly all over my own feet, and then I never get around to it. Coordination and I are not good friends.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I could be wrong about this because I just rolled out of bed, but if I remember correctly the whole 'scrapbooking' thing started when Rory insisted that Anders and Cally were young and innocent and couldn't possibly be doing anything behind closed doors except, like, playing Monopoly or scrapbooking or something.

And now I need a moment to feel old.

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it. For me the hardest part to learn was not the steps but having to keep my arms down against the sides of my body. I was wanting to dance with my arms as well. :)

I got the WEIRDEST, WEIRDEST looks ever the first time I walked into Best Buy shortly after they remodeled the place to include a scrapbooking section! I walked in the door, got a hello from the greeter, took three steps before the scrapbooking sign registered in my brain, and just busted up laughing on the spot.

The theatre! Which, sadly, I haven't been terribly involved with since I moved up to the city, as I haven't quite found a good non-profit community theatre group yet.

Which is where my other hobby comes in, really.

If you can't join 'em, draw the art for their posters.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Another knitter over here, though I'm really still in the beginner phase. I'm not really that good at it (yet), but I did manage to knit a pair of baby booties for a friend's baby shower.

And if staying up late to read and edit Wikipedia is a hobby, well, then I do that too.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . you Irish stepdance? Ooooooooooooooooooo.

I used to work as a theater usher years ago, and one of my coworkers who was learning how was forever stepdancing at her assigned door while the show was going on.
