Detentions and YOU: A Clarification.
Sooo, there was some confusion on thenew detention stuff, and so here's a quick follow up that might help settle some things a little better. I think the root of most people's questions existed in the idea that the new system was a big change on things, when, really, it was just a little add-on option with the hopes to make things simpler and get detention rolling a little better. Either way:
--Have a character that is unlikely to earn detention for him or herself, but you still, as a player, want to throw them in? The Sunday posts will now include a thread where you can put your character up for the Classic Fandom Paperwork Error (TM) to get into detention without the fun of being bad. We'll include that OCD here if you want that this week! However, if you have a character that it's not OOC to sign up for Detention, the preference is to have him or her sign up for detention and then earn it rather than depend on the Paperwork Error.
--Signing up in the thread is NOT mandatory to receive detention! The sign-up list, which you can sign up to at any time during the week, is merely a resource for teachers to refer to for quickness sake. Making OOC arrangements with a specific teacher is still a very acceptable option.
--Signing up does not mean you HAVE to earn detention that week. Sometimes, things just don't work out. The purpose of putting your name on the list is your way of telling your teachers that, if something does happen, then, hey, sure! I'm up for a detention! It's not a done-and-signed deal, though. It's more of a....consideration for the teachers. They work hard to run the classes, so it's just one thing to do to help make their lives just a wee bit easier.
--Remember, there are a lot of ways to interact in a class. Don't be afraid to explore them. Many teachers do allow a chance for chatting and mingling either in a class thread that allows it or through various activities available through the class, as well as open discussion threads that might not get as much use as they could, and interacting with other students in class is most of the fun! We certainly don't wish to restrict that, but, at the same time, we want to show a bit of respect for teachers who might not be so keen on certain activities occurring in their classes, especially when there are many options to explore.
The basic idea behind a lot of these ideas is simply to make the detention experience a more realistic one. Yes. Realistic, even given the zany antics that occur in there. I hope this helps answer some questions and not rise up to new ones (although, if it does, please ask!).

And, out of those options, that girl in front of you doesn't need to use her laptop, right? Right. There you go. And, if she does, you're traveling in time and you can stop yourself from pulling the plug, and then end the world because you've created a paradox that rips apart the time-space continuum.
GOOD JOB.
Re: OOC -- 09/09
Well...I'm taking accounting this term? Maybe they're having a three-way....My brain just blew up.
Re: OOC -- 09/09
I think you just blew my brain up, too.
Re: OOC -- 09/09
Like for Tyler I would say:
Fast detention: Do something dumb with the lab equipment that puts other students at risk. He might not even care if it was an accident or the result of misreading directions. (Hint, hint, to the well-behaved types.) Swing a punch at somebody.
Slower detentions: Argue with him in a disrespectful way, as Ino found out. Try to steal from class. Keep up a disruptive conversation with another student after a warning. Come in late and without an interesting excuse.
Re: OOC -- 09/09
As a more organic player myself (everything is going green!), I was also thinking that teachers could include, either on their syllabus or in their first classes (although it's a late for that), rules that they might have so students have no excuse to not realize that punching Chad in the stomach might lead to not only a hurt fist but a detention. This gives it all a very ICA = ICC feel, you know?
I really hope she doesn't mind me using her character as an example of this, but
Re: OOC -- 09/09
I agree that organic mentions are good -- I had Tyler make the "be dumb with lab equipment, I
break your headput you in detention" point in the last class, but I can certainly have an official class rules handout for Friday as part of this.Which ... should probably also include the syllabus that I should write.
