Random Event: It's a Bird, It's a Plane, No, It's....

On Wednesday, everyone might wanna grab an umbrella or a hat or maybe even a shoe to throw because the island is about to be invaded by harpys!

The harpys will be invading both via air and via land so both our fliers and our ground fighters will be able to engage them.

This is going to be a one day event. You will be responsible for modding your harpys for your fights. You're also encouraged to pair up with others against the harpys! Keep it within reason for your character. Any injuries your character suffers should be minor so as not to bombard the clinic with any sort of major injuries for a one day event. The harpys won't be using any specific plan of attack but they will be: biting, clawing, headbutting, tackling, cursing, egg tossing, random object tossing and, uh, poo tossing (poor, poor Dor). You won't be able to communicate with them as they'll just start shrieking at you but they will curse at you.

The harpys will not be invading the dorms, the school or Caritas as these are our safe spaces. You are welcome to mod seeing them from these places but no fights will occur in or around them.

We hope you have fun!

Since we are modding our own battles (and some of us might be plotting out as a result) is there any particular methods of attack they will be using?

For instance in Xanth canon the Harpy's typically use biting, clawing and throwing eggs and... um... excrement.

And also a ton of foul language. Not that foul language is a weapon.

No particular method is going to be used so feel free to plot at will! Clawing, biting, tackling, headbutting, poo tossing, egg tossing, cursing, scratching, etc etc are all good to go.

I MAY HAVE POINTED OUT THE BAD THINGS THAT XANTH HARPIES TOSS. AND SAID THAT DOR MIGHT BE TRAVELING WITH AN UMBRELLA.

HA! He'll also be flashing back to when he was twelve and wondering when the Goblins are going to show up to cause even more trouble.

Awesome.

Obviously, there's going to be a line where comparing the harpies to mothers-in-law gets old. Approximately how many jokes along those lines do you think can be made before it's just too much?

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
...Anyone who suggests a limit on such things will instantly be countervoted by me. Just so's you know.

[identity profile] trustshisbarber.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay to keep beating the dead horse because it's a zombie horse. Gotcha.

Wonderful use of metaphor!

Does this mean we can't name the harpies after our mothers-in-law?

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
My thinking was that there was a limit to the number of people who could.

But Skylie says differently. Beat the zombie horse!

YAY HARPIES.

MAY WE KILL THEM? Or is there something planned for how they will exit, stage right?

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
You can kill them, yes! Those not killed will slink away but they can be beat down like a dusty rug!

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
So they're not sentient types of anythings, they're monster-types of crazy without intelligent thinking?

*is embarrassed has to ask*

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they have to have some intelligence to be able to attack in the ways detailed above. They're not super smart but they're not going to be flying into buildings either.

Can we communicate with them at all?

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not. They're going to be shriekers meaning they're shrieking will be their way of communicating but it's going to hurt the ears of everyone else.
