Mobilize yourself!
Hi. I'm an FH addict. My addiction started almost four years ago and there's rarely a day that goes by where I don't check my characters' flists at least once a day.
However there are insidious forces afoot that try to keep me from this game. Time. Work. Web filters. Meetings. Small yippy chihuahuas who chew on network cables.
So you might ask: How does one try to keep up with an ever active game with such an intense lifestyle and distractions?
My answer? LiveJournal Mobile.
Yes, there are days where I'm so addicted to the game I play the game with my cellphone. Luckily today's cell phones are getting faster and easier to access the web.
To make it even easier, LiveJournal has produced a web interface that strips down the whole LJ experience into a cellphone friendly format. However it does take a little bit of work on your part in order to access it from the web.
What to do first:
1. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/friends/editgroups.bml to manage your custom friends groups
2. Look for a group called Mobile View. (If you have a relatively new journal, it should already be there. Older journals will need to create one.)
3. Select Mobile View and move all your friends and comms into the group.
4. Click save.
Now the rest is easy!
1. Open the web browser on your phone.
2. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/mobile
3. Click on the Log In link.
4. Enter your username and password.
When all is said and done, you'll have the three main things you need for checking in on the game: Your friend list, the ability to post and a stripped down journal page that makes it easier to read and comment to other players.
Now there are some limitations. Depending on your phone and connection, I would only recommend using this for single threaded conversations on a single post as multiple conversations will drive you nuts. Additionally your f-list will only give information on who posted where and whatever was listed in the subject field.
On the plus side? It's faster than spending ten minutes watching your wireless device just to read your f-list.
But I have all the internet access I want. Why should I care about using the mobile version?
Because you should, damn it! Livejournal Mobile works in a regular browser and because of that you get a couple of benefits.
You know if you're at work or some public place and there's always some boss/goon looking over your shoulder? Since the friend list is all text they don't see all the icons, advertisements etc. etc. Just a web page with text that really doesn't attract a lot of attention which helps if you're at work and playing in stealth mode.
And then there's the stripped down journal entry page. Since LJ stripped all the unnecessary code out, it's cleaner to use and you don't get any web advertisements. Normally you won't see a lot of benefit using this page until we hit another trademarked "GIANT POST OF DOOM". Next time you're in a post that's causing your browser to crash because it's hit over 1000+ comments, try the mobile journal and you'll be able to play longer! (Remember this radio squirrels! It'll make link grabbing a whole lot easier!)
And that's all there is to it! See? Not hard at all and it is oh-so beneficial. Yes, I'm enabling you. Go. Be enabled.

Since I don't have a naked icon for this journal, you get the awesome yo-yo of doom.
