state of the characters!

Since it's been awhile (besides the cracky stuff in [livejournal.com profile] fandomtherapy), I thought it'd be a good time to do another round of state of the characters!

Basically, what this post is for is to give the game at large an update or a summary of what's going on with each of your characters. Romances, classes, upcoming plots, things you might want to do with them in the future, crushes, people you want to thread with, etc.

It's basically a paragraph (or more) about where your character stands, what's coming up and what the future holds! You can do a comment for each character or stick all your characters in one comment.

For example: Umbridge: Sometimes, it's hard for me to play her because she's so intensive and tiring. But, she's having fun hexing students and pissing off teachers. I'm enjoying her games of give and take with Anakin and Wade, particularly. I'd love to see her thread more with Roy. She'll be leaving soon but not before a big explosive ending.

It doesn't have to be exactly like that but that's basically the gist. Feel free to reply to each other if you have thread ideas or even plot ideas. So, go forth and share!

Riggins needs to get out more. I will try to remedy this. Maybe later today.

See, there wasn't even enough for a paragraph.

Sophie's having more fun teaching than she anticipated; she's got an available friend-with-benefits in Max, although it's not even that deep, really; and she likes Steve, Geoffrey and Minsc. I have to get her out more often. On the other hand, that's more easily done now that she's been through all her canon so far, with her still hung up on Nate but in a more definite place about it. She loves having Parker as her TA, and seems to have decided that if the girl's going to be a thief, she should be one who doesn't get caught.

Chuck is all sadfacing because Blair left :( And he just got his ass kicked but then it was made alllllll better because he was smart enough to make nice with an empath. I'm sure that will come in handy many times over. He bought Caritas and when he's not busy with that his favorite hobby is still bothering Winchesters and his stepsister.

Annnnd he's collecting fake sisters rapidly. He likes Rose a lot and he thinks Jean is a little too nice for her own good but she's hot so he'll deal with it.

He's got some big canon stuff coming in a few months so right now I'm letting him just chill for the most part. He falls into trouble without me planning it an awful lot though. I guess that means I'm doing something right.

Katchoo: I want to get her out more, especially right now given her cabin assignment, because I love playing her growly cynicism off other people's cheerfulness. Of course, that attitude frequently makes her a bit draining to play, but I have a blast when she's doing it. I love the dynamics of the Fearsome Foursome Clusterfsck: how she doesn't quite know how to deal with Merlin (feeling like she should hate him, but perturbed that he's too much of a damned nice guy for her to even go there), the explosive snarky potential of threading with Arthur, the way she acts differently with Francine than she does with anyone else. I love the quirkiness of her weekly chats with Ino -- there's a sort of verbal dance going on there, of secrets that she's trying to keep, and at the same time there's a certain honesty that she gets out of their, dare I say it, friendship that she doesn't get with anyone else. Ino and Dinah really kind of fill the Casey Bullocks role for her in that they're cheerful and persistent and as much as she tries to be standoffish about it, she really does like them. I think in Dinah especially she sees what she could have been if her family life hadn't been so messed up. And beating the crap out of Chuck was fun. I love any chance I can get to play off her issues a little, really.

Tahiri: Out of all my non-alumni characters, she's the one who's the least central to her canon and yet she's the one who's the most compelling to me. I absolutely love every relationship she's developed in game, and the challenge of reworking her canon that comes as a result of everything she's experienced in Fandom. The first Fate of the Jedi book, for all that it happens some fourteen years in FH!Tahiri's future, gave me a wrapped gift, practically, in the line "I've been broken. I was broken by the Yuuzhan Vong. I broke when Anakin died . . . Every time you break, outside forces can shape you, and you can't do anything to stop them." Ever since then I've been working off the question of how the outside force of Fandom has been shaping her, and really, it's been fascinating and fun. My main worry is that she's so damn angsty lately, and that it puts people off. But plans are underway to fix that, and the potential there makes me glee. Plus she's got more canon catchup coming up soon, which is gonna be fun. And then some not-quite-canon catchup that should be even more fun. :D

Gabrielle: I think I'm finally getting into the groove with her, now that I've started doing her handwavey trips home for canon catchup, because it gives her some wacky stuff to talk with people about. And she's got a cell phone now, which amuses me to no end and gives me some crazy ideas to play with. I love her right now because she's still optimistic and cheerful and bounces back easily and it is a huge contrast to Katchoo's rage and Tahiri's emo and that's like a security blanket for me. I don't think I'm playing her quite up to her full potential yet, but I'm willing to give it some time -- it took me a while to get into a good groove with Tahiri, too. But I do have a couple of things planned for her for the near future that should make things interesting, and I am really, really looking forward to homecoming. Mwahahaha.

Lacey: Oh, Lacey -- she really is my low-impact character, and I do want to get her out more as well. The weird thing is, her particular brand of crack (the crazy fantasy sequences) is almost as draining as Katchoo's anger, and there's the ongoing issue of how she's so much girlier than I am (be quiet about the power tools, MP) that makes it a little hard for me to get in touch with her voice sometimes. On the upside, I don't have a hard time at all hearing Gabrielle Miller delivering a lot of her lines, so that helps. I totally need to have her fangirl at Robin some more though, hee.

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The curse plot was finished last week with Penelope, so now with the main part of her canon out of the way, she is wanting to experience life without being sheltered physcially and mentally. Her new nose justifies that for her and she's learning to be happy without the insecurity; which will take a little more time to get over, obviously.

She wasn't dating Hurley before she went home, when she would have liked to. And now that she's back, he made a few comments to her that made her doubt him. So she is confused about him and not focusing on dating him exclusively.

Basically she just wants to have fun her senior year and do all these things she's only ever thought about. There's a long list. Really.

[identity profile] iknowstuff.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Layla is coming along a lot easier than I thought she would. I don't have anything planned for her personally plot wise but I'm looking forward to her fulfilling her role as a walking/talking plot device.

And yes, I realize that she comes off with a weird creepy and yet still cheerful vibe. That's actually intentional and IC for Layla.

And while she's destined in canon to marry Jamie Madrox I'm not necessarily going to go in that direction.

The problem with playing Layla most of the time is trying to remember what she knows so there is usually a delay in time as I check my notes and info posts for details. Other than that I'm quite happy with her.

[identity profile] guardianborn.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose is liking Fandom more than she ever expected, but there's always the undertone of 'this isn't my place. My place is with Lissa' that crops up every so often. She's been taught her whole life that 'they come first,' and she doesn't quite know what to do without a Moroi to place first. Which has been coming out in recklessness of the sexual variety because in some ways she just doesn't care. But that's resulted in a lot of really fun threads and situations with Alex, Jack, and Worf so while it was totally unexpected to me, I love it.

She's going to start going through canon (more than the first 7 pages) at the end of the summer which will end up in resulting in lots of changes for our Rose so I'm generally just enjoying how much fun she is to bounce off of people even when she's in her bitch mode sorry.

I would love for her to develop some more female friends, but she's so much more comfortable flirting with talking to guys that it's weird. I'm totally bummed to see Blair go because the bitchfest the other night was way too amusing to be a one-off. I also kinda adore the weird sibling relationship she has with Chuck and is starting to have with Elle, and the older sister thing she seems to be developing with some of the new boys - Kyle and Bobby and such.

Jennifer: Obviously needs a rename token. Jen's dealing with her new alter-ego and the self-image struggle inherent is shaping up to be pretty awesome. She's got lots of good friends in Fandom, and is definitely making a new home here. She's had no real romantic notions, but with She-Hulk now sometimes making an appearance, that'll change.

Mina: Is still dealing with major changes as well. Her little love-hate thing with Minsc right now is priceless, really. She's throwing off the shackles of her past, slowly but surely. But she's still Mina. Oh yes.

Hurley: Is a very dumb, dumb boy. But he's Hurley. His voice is always strong with me, even if I flail a bit when he's being utterly frustrating. But, he's Hurley, so you just want to hug him, most of the time.

Fred: I had no idea how much fun I was going to have with Fred, and not even the random jokes I'm having at his expense. His voice is strong, he's got treasure troves of character development available... oh yes. He'll be in Fandom for a good long while.

Vince: Somehow, Vince's muse is the weakest. I'm trying some things, to get him more active and more situated, but, ironically, his lack of true depth (which is why I love the character) is causing some troubles, since his better half isn't around to help balance that out.

Prince Edward is perfectly happy being who he is. He does not get that people would actually laugh at him so goes along as he does brilliantly unaware. It works for him.

Adora is an amazing girlfriend and he tolerates Hannibal because of her. Mostly.

He wishes to return to Andalasia for a visit. Perhaps to find out what happened to Giselle and see what Queen Narissa is up to.

Oh, and Destiny and Pip need to be here with him. He should go get them so he and Adora can riiiiide happily together.

The End.

ETA: I should add that Edward is entirely thrilled with his singing partner! He never expected to find one as lovely as the lady Ino!

[personal profile] scruffnfeathers 2009-07-13 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Castiel hasn't even been here a week yet, and I've been mostly AFK for two days of it.

Still, I'm totally digging his voice, and what few interactions he's managed so far. I'm hoping that at some point, probably in the distant future, I'll get to let Jimmy out to play a little bit, too. But for the time being, I'm having enough fun just having him boggle and question his purpose in life.

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Worf! Your gruff manner is so much fun to play with. I honestly like throwing him into weird situations just to see what will happen. I'm also very happy with how Sins of the Father turned out. I'd been wrestling with that plot for almost a year trying to think of the best way to fandomize it. It wasn't until after I got Gibbs that I had one of those light bulb moments.

And speaking of Gibbs, well I'm very happy with how he's turned out. So far he's the easiest character to write for at the moment. The fact that there is a Tony and Ziva on the island now makes it even better. (Even if they are from the future)

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-07-13 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur continues to eat my brain while having so many identity and culture shock and self-esteem issues it makes my head spin. At least thanks to Nathan Algren's class last term, he can put a name to it, which... helps. I am occasionally afraid he's bare seconds away from a real shutdown, but so far he's managed to weather it.

The kind-of-complex-and-yet-not thing with Merlin continues to feature both more issues than Playboy and a kind of slow downward slope into the inevitable (despite the many, many strugglings along the road. Love does not go smooth). He has a Katchoo-esque weird-as-hell awkward thing with Francine who is just too nice to live, and despite his conflicted feelings, gets most of his chivalry senses tingling. And then there's Katchoo who I have to toss him at more often, because they're too much fun.

Then there's the reserves, the complicated friendship with Leto, the weetiny crush-slash-total-glee-in-trouncing-of he has for Zack (nothing says friendship like beating a guy into a pulp every week), and just the general way in which the reserves and his sword lessons keep him clinging to his sanity along with the rest of it.

Of course, I could be here for another hour or so, so I'll leave it at that.

ETA: Oh, and he totally beat up Chuck Bass. 'm just saying.

Jack: Is, frankly, delighted by Fandom. He's spent the last decade hiding his religion and personal background, and the last six-ish being semi-closeted about his sexuality; the fact no one in Fandom blinks at either thing is shocking, in the best possible way.

He adores Tony, has a nice friendship-with-makeouts-in-it with Rose, and ... well. If there wasn't a Sebastien to consider, he might be trying for more with Valentine or Emma, but for now he's enriched by those friendships. He misses Sebastien, but seeing him regularly keeps that from being too overwhelming. All in all, right now he's looking at Fandom as a nice vacation from the real world.

He needs more male friends and some kind of project to keep him occupied, but for now classes, flirting, and trying to understand 21st century technology keep him from wanting to tear his hair out from boredom too often.

Also, I love writing him, which probably shows.

Xander is living happily-ish in THE FUTURE with his still-legal-in-California husband. (They got married in the present, pre Prop. 8. Which should hardly make a difference when he lives in a future run by Disney where it's somewhat utopically not even an issue because they've gone on to being biased against aliens, mutants, and androids, but it makes a difference to Xander.) Marriage = great, work = valuable if not exactly Scoobyish, political situation = kinda sucktastic.

Still hasn't told his parents he's married (hasn't talked directly to his dad since the equivalent of BtVS Season 6 and it's now ...essentially Season 12 for him) which speaks so well for his ability to raise the child he's being all grabbyhands about wanting. Which he can't have until the planet is not under attack, dumbass. Xander: surprisingly not the girliest character I have. It's not so much that he's being all biological clocky (which is not exactly an issue given the biology in question) -- it's just that it's Bronwyn so he's just all "Misses! Can has naow plz?"

Now: Worried about Parker (Pretender, not Leverage) who's pretty damn close to shattering due to family/Centre stuff, and kind of pleased that Jen Scotts came back to the FUTURE with them and joined the SPD team, so he doesn't feel quite so old hanging out with the pack of barely-not-teenagers that is said team.

Needs to hang out with the people actually in his time more!

Ender is a mess. A messy mess from messtown, wrapped in a secret, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in a... well.

Doesn't that cover it?

Hm.

He's got his sister now, and a new 'friend' in Karla, for as much as he lets anyone close. However, the situation with Ben continues to be any kind of confusing mess, as Ender might know how to work with people's personal convictions but when it comes to their private feelings about him, things get a little muddled.

He's putting out a lot of feelers, sometimes agitating certain elements at home on purpose with his choices, and just generally starting to make a little headway in shaping the way he'd like his future to be.

Fandom remains a place mostly of whimsy to him, though. He doesn't get a lot of challenge out of it, but it's teaching him how to keep his head down, one step at a time.

Priestly's having a lovely time. He and Claudia are good, he's got interesting/insane classes for the session, and he can pretend to himself that he never has to worry about the fact that he's been lying to his parents since January.

This last bit isn't true. He'll get to deal with that at the end of this month while I'm out of town. But that's another story.

Priestly's turned out to be delightfully low-key and very easy to keep up with, despite my busy schedule. I'm quite pleased.

Eliza wants her damned E. Uhm.

No, pretty much she's discovered the massaging shower head is the best wonder of the 21st century then had to CHASE SOME NAKED BLOKE DOWN THE STREET who STOLE IT, gained some technical terminology she didn't have before from Temperance Brennan, dislikes Deadpool for implying she's running a prostitution ring out of her flower shop, and would like the sign outside said shop to say Covent Garden Flowers, thank you very sodding much. No missing letters, no extra letters, no need to nail zombie hands or daffodils to it to cover up the mis-spellings.

Thrilled that there's an actual hat shop in town now even though I haven't got her out to visit it yet. DOESN'T MISS HIM ONE TINY LITTLE BIT. EVER. Or ever write to his mother and Colonel Pickering and pointedly not ask after his health. Or feel relieved and slightly annoyed when they tell her he's fine without her having asked.

Aaaaand... she's on the way out. Not gone yet, but I'm not doing her justice and I don't have the energy to do her justice the way she deserves.

Ino is dealing. She never does as well during the summer seasons, frankly, but she's hitting a mostly even keel and what isn't even, well, she's hiding. She had a talk with Reno that's making her less likely to talk about anything but silly stuff 'cause she doesn't want another conversation like that.

She needs to talk with Hurley (run Hurley, run!) and her sis, 'cause yeah, if I hadn't failed an had her skip club yesterday, she'd already be knocking on the door. Knocking, of course. Terribly politely. Really! Honest!

Also, she's got some major Dooooooom coming in her future, which makes me glee and her cringe, so yeah, her happy is kinda muted from that too.

Raven: She's coming out her shell, perhaps faster than in canon because (a) she's surrounded by more people, and (b) this is a social game. I've been re-reading the comics and man is she an over-dramatic downer. ;) But since I'm yanking her out of canon I am justified in lightening her up, just a bit. But I'm also waiting for someone to piss her off so she flashes a bit of the GRR ARGH DAUGHTER OF TRIGON.

I think she's possibly getting a bit of a crush on Chuck. Or Anakin. Or both. ;)

Bel: Is jealous of a Pyramid ball. Needs to perform Operation Bunny at some point. *whistles innocently* I'm totally jonsing for evil!AU!Bel and his vampire concubine. :D

Wyatt: Needs to die. Seriously, it's canon for Halliwells to die ever so often, and he's behind schedule. Also, I'm not sure he can look at Excalibur the same way now that Ronan slept with her.
