OOC: New Year's Eve

Had enough of partying? Not even possible! This New Year's Eve, all of Fandom (alumni, expats, townies, teachers, & students) is invited to ring in the New Year in style - at the Muse Hotel in New York City!

Join us in the [livejournal.com profile] fh_trips community for three days of New York City, Fandom-style.

Itinerary
Dec. 30 - Check into the hotel and explore on your own
Dec. 31 - Daytime explorations continue
Dec. 31 - New Year's Eve Blowout Party
Jan. 01 - Brunch at the hotel followed by check out

Note: Rather than RNGing roommates, please feel free to find you own IC partner, find a completely random partner for lulls, or handwave a single room at your discretion.

As with other trips, we request that any NWS threads take place in personal journals. Characters are also free to use personal journals for explorations as preferred, though there will be space for explorations in the [livejournal.com profile] fh_trips posts.

For the sake of our NPC Muse Staffers, we would appreciate those interested ping in below so we can provide a basic head-count. There is no deadline to decide, as there are no assigned rooms, simply show and enjoy your stay!

Chuck, Damon, Lois and Meg'll be there. I'll have to consult the ~S.O's~ about everyone else.

Though Chuck might not exactly stay in that hotel.

HEEE! I can help here.

1. Jekyll and Hyde's (http://www.jekyllpub.com/) a themed restaurant and pub found in both the Village and up near Central Park. Really awesome with a floor show and actors and moving/talking scenery. Also fantastic food. Yes, this IS in fact one of my favorite places to eat.

2. Ninja (http://www.ninjanewyork.com/) which is another themed restaurant with absolutely decadent food, really nice seating, table magic shows, and some of the most original presentation ever (dude, I had to pull a sword out of my appetizer and then smoke poured out). A little more upscale/expensive.

3. There is a Castle in Central Park (http://www.centralpark.com/pages/attractions/belvedere-castle.html).

4. Guggenheim Art Museum (http://www.guggenheim.org/) which, uh, you've sort of seen if you've ever seen Men in Black. You know that building Will Smith chases the alien up that goes round and round and --yeah, that's it. Really nice place, though.

5. Union Square Market - my personal stomping grounds ^_^ There's all kinds of farmer's market booths, street art, handcrafted goods, photography, etc. They'll probably also be taking down the holiday market that was running earlier. It also has the flagship Barnes and Nobles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble#History).

6. Rubin Museum (http://www.rmanyc.org/) which is all about Tibetan/Himalayan art, etc. It's a little off of Union Square, but it's a fascinating little place.

7. Carriage rides around Central Park - you can get them!

8. Madison Square Garden / Penn Station - if you're going to use Madison Square Garden, just saying, it's right on top of one of the two major train stations on the island.

9. Macy's on 34th Street - hey, they made that movie for a reason. The shop windows are lovely, and the store itself is HUGE. MCLARGEHUGE. It's also only like a block and a half away from

10. The Empire State Building. Nuff Said.

11. Flatiron Building - info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatiron_Building)

12. Prospect Park (which is in Brooklyn) which is actually supposed to be a nicer place than Central Park in some respects. The architect who designed the two considered Central Park the practice piece.

...augh, I'll come up with more when I'm not at work but NY native here! So if you have a question or need information on Subways or certain streets or whatever, feel free to IM whenever!

For some good general info on various districts in NYC, you can look here (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/lucds/cdstart.shtml) or here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City)

More!

South Stree Seaport - Info here (http://www.southstreetseaport.com/)

The USS Intrepid - Info Here (http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/) not far from the above.

The Museum of Sex - No, I'm not kidding (http://www.museumofsex.com/).

Leonidas Chocolate - For when Godiva Isn't Good Enough (http://www.leonidas-chocolate.com/).

Considering all the law enforcement, they might check out The NYC Police Museum (http://www.nycpolicemuseum.org/).

There's always something going on at the Javits Center (http://www.javitscenter.com/) even if it's far away from like EVERYTHING EVER and all the trains.

Liberty Island, of course (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Island) with the statue and all.

The Cloisters (http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_Of_Art/the_cloisters), which is a restored monastic site and the medieval European branch of

The Met (http://www.metmuseum.org/). NYers consider a forgotten Met pin on the neckline of someone's jacket/shirt to be a "tourist badge".

Museum of Natural History (http://www.amnh.org/) of course.

MoMA (http://www.moma.org/)'s another one of those 'we all know about it'.

Not to mention the Bronx Zoo (http://www.bronxzoo.com/) which requires a bit of a Subway trip, but it's totally worth it.

Arthur's going (though obviously not to Times Square, omfg) with plus 1, as is Nate (with plus 1), Ender (without), and probably Jak.

Who will be such nice company. Really.

Lacey Burrows in NYC? Oh, good god yes.

Jen Scotts, Conner McKnight, and Sam Anders are all definitely going too. Most likely Kennedy and Katchoo as well, but I haven't decided about Tahiri yet. (Gabrielle's still in the Very Special Greece for the duration of break.)

ETA: Okay, Kennedy's a definite, and she'll totally try and play tour guide if anyone wants to subject their kids take her up on it. Of course, she'll probably try and drag you all to Christopher Street.
