I HAVE AN EVENT DATE QUESTION

I considered sending this as an email, but it is TOO TIME SENSITIVE FOR THAT!

What is the historical significance of February 6th in the following years:
1778
1899
1952

THIS COUNTS AS A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF YOUR FINAL GRADE.

Am I thinking of the right war?

The one against the dirty Brits in the 1700's, right?

Fuck history, man, I'm gonna go watch Wheel of Fortune.

I don't believe in history before 1960. I also don't believe in history outside of the US. It's all made up.

I KNEW THAT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.

REALLY.

OF COURSE YOU DID. IF BY "OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD" YOU MEAN "BECAUSE I LOOKED IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA".

Technically, it is the day she became queen, since it's also the same day her father died. But she didn't get crowned until a year later because they needed time to plan all the ceremonies.

One day, I will find a real use for my accumulated knowledge about the House of Windsor.

1778: The Treaty of Paris, Illinois. Not as well known as the Treaty of Paris, France, the Treaty of Paris, Illinois was an arrangement between settlers who had ventured beyond the official limits of the new United States and into a region filled with ghosts from the future who had established a settlement in a city that would not become an official township until 1915. The human settlers and ghost residents were locked in battle for weeks, with the ghosts very nearly chasing the humans away. And they would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for a handful of kids and their dog. The Treaty stated that the two sides were to cease hostilities and put on plays together. The ghosts agreed, but went back to the future the next day, destroying virtually all traces of their settlement, ensuring that nobody would ever believe the humans. It was then that the popular saying, "Ghosts are tricky bastards, and mean, too," entered the lexicon.

1899: The first Leap Day. Calenderologists asked for a do-over the next year. Not only did it make no sense to make the extra day in February at the beginning of the month, forcing a 29th day anyway as the rest of the days shifted over by one, but remembering leap years as being years that are a multiple of four, MINUS one was much tougher than the current years that are a multiple of four strategy. This did, of course, set off all of world history by one day, causing untold of devastation until the entire world (minus Djibouti, who liked being a day ahead) agreed to skip March 28th, 1920. Skipping that day, however, meant that actors Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford were never officially married.

1952: Dwight D. Eisenhower farted for the first and only time in his life.

..... I have no explanation for any of this.
