Not Entirely Random Event: Chocolate Fever!

As a twist on a great suggestion from [livejournal.com profile] notyourpawn, Fandom Island is going to be the center of a magical viral outbreak this week. That chocolate fudge sauce you all were so gleefully dunking, wrestling and jousting in this weekend? It was contaminated with a mutated strain of the rare condition known as Chocolate Fever. Though this disease normally affects only those who adore and consume chocolate to insane excess, the mutated version can happen to anyone (including non-humans), and comes with an irritating chicken-poxy itch, free of charge.

The symptoms: Starting Monday, those who choose to will break out in small, itchy brown spots that leave the victim smelling (and tasting, should that situation arise) suspiciously like chocolate. On the second day of illness, the spots (old and new) will get bigger, and actually start making a *POP* sound when they appear. Scratching at them provides temporary relief from the itch, but it's just going to make you smell more chocolatey.

How to get it: You have to have either been involved with the chocolate fudge this weekend (dunked, splashed while you were dunking someone, played in the jousting or wrestling games) OR come in close contact with someone who's showing symptoms! (Having a conversation will work, as long as you're actually near each other.) So there's a number of Patient Zeros, and from there, anybody can pick it up, but it requires a little in-game interaction.

How not to get it: A number of people will be immune to this mutated virus, so even if you've been at the fudge sauce or hung out with the victims, if you don't want it, you don't have it.

How to get rid of it: The cure for Chocolate Fever is... vanilla! Whether you eat it or swim in it, it'll work. When, how, and if your character figures this out is up to you. For those who don't stumble across it or get told by their friends, worry not, for the entire outbreak will be washed away on Friday by a rain of vanilla extract! (Which yes, will get you slightly drunk if you wander around in it with your mouth open, because it's that kind of vanilla extract.)

Alumni and expats too? Sure, if they attended the carnival or come in contact with somebody who did. They'll miss the vanilla rain, though, so they'll have to figure out the cure on their own. (If nothing else they can handwavily call the Fandom Clinic and find out.)

Questions, comments, pie?

Oh, such glorious crack. I'm kind of disappointed I didn't get any of my boys fudged up this weekend.
