final reminder: spring break

Who else is glad it's Friday? I can't be alone. Anyway! This is your final reminder that today is the last day (by 11PM EST tonight) to sign up for Spring Break! If you wanna head to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas for a week of fun in the sun, then make sure you're signed up!

In other news, I STILL LOVE YOU, JOHNNY WEIR.

THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THE WORLD THAT HE DIDN'T GET HIGHER THAN SIXTH. THAT SHIT WAS AWESOME.

also I am enjoying plushenko bitching up a storm about how evan didn't have a quad lol

That crown of roses was fucking awesome. And so was him waving down the crowd when they booed his horrific score. "It's okay, peoples, I am still fabulous. Kisses."

Someone had the best slam, which is "the name of the sport is Figure Skating, not Ice Jumping." He waved his arms around and moved his feet between jumps, that TOTALLY counts as intricate footwork.

So does this mean I'm not completely insane for missing compulsories?

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Not even. I don't miss compulsories, per se, but if bringing them back would mean an end to the skate-skate-JUMP-skate-skate-JUMP school of thought, I'd welcome it. Plushenko looked like he was filling in time inbetween his jumps, whereas Lysacek looked like a dancer. (And now I'm remembering Nancy Kerrigan whining about Oksana Baiul winning, when Oksana Baiul looked like a ballerina every time she moved.)

Also, Lysacek is being a class act on NBC and saying fabulous things about Plushenko and that just makes me love him more. I know, it's easier to be a gracious winner than a gracious loser, but still.

They wouldn't even have to televise them! I think I started losing interest in figure skating once the emphasis started shifting more to how many insanely complicated jumps you could do and less about the figure skating part of it.

Also I object to this "you get more points for grabbing your skate blade" thing. It doesn't look very attractive at all. :/

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what's up with that? I think the point system needs some re-tooling, but some people have said the new point system is responsible for Lysacek getting the win over Plushenko -- since the quad didn't overshadow the better footwork and spins -- in which case I'm all for it.

Someone that can land a quad jump but not do any other move whatsoever isn't a world champion skater. (Which isn't meant to imply that about Plushenko -- just that that one move is not the end-all, be-all.)

I started losing interest in mens' skating when the quad wars started. I really wish a lot of performers last night had taken out the quads and done programs they could skate cleanly, instead of trying for quads and falling on their asses.
