Meme: Tropes

Oh yes, you guys can just hate my face for this one but it's well overdue.

A trope, for our purposes, is a recognizable concept or pattern of behavior used in fiction. Tropes are not necessarily cliches. Cliches, by definition, are trite; tropes are simply an expectation, and can be used in fresh and unique ways. For example, "Rags to Riches" is a popular trope that everyone recognizes -- Sometimes it's done well, sometimes not.

Your challenge, should you accept it, is to trawl the TV Tropes Wiki and find five tropes that fit your character. Comment here listing the tropes and explain why you chose them. Others familiar with your character can then offer additional tropes they feel are appropriate.

So, trope it up, guys! Feel free to list more than five tropes but make sure to explain why so we all know the reasons. Feel free to suggest other tropes for other characters. Have fun! GET LOST IN THE TROPES WIKI!

I'm going to actually do this, but I just wanted to be on the record with the face hate first. YOUR FACE = HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE.

Raven

[personal profile] trigons_child 2010-09-06 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
  • Apocalypse Maiden -- Raven's the portal that will bring Trigon to Earth. D:
  • The Empath -- obviously.
  • Half-human Hybrid -- her mother's human, her father's a interdimensional demon.
  • Power Crystal -- her chakra, natch. It helps her focus to control her demon side.
  • Superpowered Evil Side -- her evil side isn't necessarily more powerful, though. She just abandons any moral qualms about misuing her powers.
  • In The Blood -- *sigh* it's not her fault she keeps turning evil, really!

Chuck Bass

[identity profile] rocksthescarf.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)

  • Flirty Stepsiblings (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlirtyStepsiblings) - Hell, Chuck punched his stepsister's v-card last season

  • Parental Abandonment (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParentalAbandonment) - His mother left him soon after he was born and his dad ignore him his whole life :/

  • Ensemble Darkhorse (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EnsembleDarkhorse) - Can you believe Gossip Girl was supposed to be about Nate out of all the guys?

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JerkWithAHeartOfGold) - My favorite trope. I don't know if it was obvious.

  • Improbable Age (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ImprobableAge) - lol, okay, 18 year old billionaire who is CEO of a huge company and owns several hotels. Right.

  • Token Evil Teammate (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TokenEvilTeammate) - Don't even deny it.

  • DeTerminator (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeTerminator) - This one is gonna get Chuck killed one day, mark my words. He'd probably literally sell his soul to the devil to get what he wants.

CRY MOAR.

Luke Castellan

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't do just five. Deal with it.

  • Parental Abandonment (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParentalAbandonment) - The gods leave all their kids. And his mom...well, I won't spoil anything.

  • Good Scars Evil Scars (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoodScarsEvilScars) - Luke's got an ugly raised scar running down the side of his face. Guess what category that fits him in?

  • Attention Deficit--Ooh Shiny! (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitlem4f37xq499gk?from=Main.AttentionDeficitOohShiny) - Yeah he has ADHD.

  • L is For Dyslexia (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LIsForDyslexia) - And he's got dyslexia too.

  • Break the Cutie (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BreakTheCutie) -Again, no spoilers, but Luke has the shittest life and destiny of any character I have ever played in game. He's screwed over so hard.

  • Calling the Old Man Out (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CallingTheOldManOut) - Luke takes daddy issues to a whole new level.

  • Divine Parentage (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DivineParentage) - Hermes is his dad. Zeus is his grandpa. All the other gods are his aunts and uncles.

  • Foe Yay (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FoeYay) - Luke and Percy are so gay for each other And so are Jake Abel and Logan Lerman But if it ever got to Kissing Cousins (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KissingCousins) it's okay. The author explained how it's okay *nods*

Alex Karev

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
  • Dark and Troubled Past (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkAndTroubledPast) → Alex comes from an abusive household. His dad was a heroin addict, his mother's mentally ill, his siblings are in foster care and he's pretty much alone.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AllGirlsWantBadBoys) → Alex has been with...quite the list of girls. You don't think this one's true? It's totally true.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitleoe7myb9t?from=Main.DontYouDarePityMe) → There's a reason very few people know about Alex's past. He doesn't want anyone leveling sad eyes or pitying him. Ever.
  • Parental Abandonment (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParentalAbandonment) → Yeah, back to the troubled past. Alex beat the shit out of his dad and he took off and his mom's around but she's not really mentally there. It's just Alex.
  • Grumpy Bear (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GrumpyBear) → What it says on the tin. Alex is not a nice guy, he's not going to be cute and fluffy for you and he's not going to ease up just to be nice.

Dan Humphrey

[identity profile] imonscholarship.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
  • Flirty Stepsiblings (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlirtyStepsiblings) - Dan lost his virginity to his now-stepsister and is obviously still in love with her. Gawd, Gossip Girl, always with the pseudo incest.

  • Butt Monkey (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ButtMonkey) - Everybody on the show rags on Dan, even his own father.

  • Missing Mom (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MissingMom) - Haven't seen her since season one.

  • Her Code Name Was Mary Sue (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HerCodeNameWasMarySue) - Dan wrote a story about Chuck. He changed the name to Charlie Trout. SO CREATIVE.

  • I Can't Believe a Girl Like You Would Notice Me (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitle7r6bpxd93qsz?from=Main.ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe) - Dan's whole schtick in season one is how he's an outsider put into the rich UES world because Serena took notice of him.

  • One Note Cook (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneNoteCook) - The Humphreys can only make waffles. True story.

Incest and parental abandonment, that's all I'm about apparently. idek.

A dishonorable mention to:
  • Incest Yay -- will happily be AVOIDED since Leia knows who Luke is, and when he bursts into her cell and says "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you," boy is he going to be surprised when the reaction from Leia is *TACKLEGLOMP*

Is it cheating to go to the trope listing for that show and start from there to get ideas? >.>

    [identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheating schmeating. I did that for all of mine! Gets the brain jogging!

    [identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, okay, easy for Bruce since he has a bigass character page (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/Batman). Hell, they even give him a page JUST FOR THE INTERNET MEMES (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Memes/Batman). And this isn't even counting the number of tropes he's named.

But I'm just going to pick ten or so that work best for Bruce right here, right now.

*Crazy Prepared (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CrazyPrepared): He just commissioned a utility belt. It's going to be filled with crap shortly. He's working on how to defeat the more powerful people on the island just in case.

*Doesn't Like Guns (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitle51e8o7filuhv): 'Nuff said.

*Fiction 500 (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Fiction500): He's on Forbes' Top 10 every year.

*Lantern Jaw of Justice (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LanternJawOfJustice): Yep.

*Parental Abandonment (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParentalAbandonment): HIS PARENTS ARE DEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!

    *Roofhopping (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Roofhopping): Yep.

*Secret Identity Identity (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SecretIdentityIdentity): Bruce is in the early stages of setting this one up, creating a social persona to slip into and become comfortable with for use in the future when he needs to cover for being Batman.

*Stealth Hi Bye (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StealthHiBye): Which I've only done IG a couple of times, once to Anakin.

*Thou Shalt Not Kill (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThouShaltNotKill): Yep.

    *Two First Names (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TwoFirstNames): Yeeeep.

    [identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I went to Batman's character page and stole a bunch of links right from there. :D

It's not cheating, it's being prepared.

    • Half-human Hybrid -- Mama was a demon, daddy was human. Shut up I do not have a type.
    • Becoming the Mask -- Cole was just supposed to pretend to be human, but....
    • The Power of Love -- ...he fell in love with Phoebe, whom he was supposed to kill, and...
    • Heel-Face Turn -- ...betrayed Team Evil and went to Team Good, except....
    • Heel-Face Revolving Door -- ...the writers sucked, and he got unwillingly turned evil when the Source possessed him, died, came back and tried to be good, went evil, died, came back as a ghost, but good. *sigh*
    • Fan Service -- He took his shirt off. A lot.

    John Sheppard

    • Good With Numbers (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoodWithNumbers): He's good with numbers. I know, it's in the trope name.
    • Brilliant But Lazy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BrilliantButLazy): Some of the best moments from the show are other people reacting to John suddenly coming up with an awesome idea or bit of knowledge despite his usual lazy demeanor.
    • Colonel Badass (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ColonelBadass): Yeah, this one speaks for itself and is often tempered by the above when John's not actually in the field being a badass.
    • Boldly Coming (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BoldlyComing): Maybe he has a thing for alien chicks. Maybe they have a thing for his hair, who knows?
    • Friendly Enemy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FriendlyEnemy): Uh, making friends with the enemy is a bad thing?

    Nobody Owens

    [personal profile] therewaslife 2010-09-06 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
    • The Magic Goes Away → Bod's got a few powers when he's living in the graveyard. Once he disposes of the man Jack, he loses those powers as he leaves the graveyard. SAD.
    • Genocide Backfire → The Man Jack tried to kill Bod and his family because Bod was supposedly going to bring about the end of his order. Guess what? HE FORGOT TO KILL BOD. Oops.
    • Because Destiny Says So → Bod's prophesized that he's going to bring about the end of the Jack of All Trades society. And guess what? He does.
    • The Nondescript → Bod excels at this. He makes himself invisible (even without the skill of Fading). He's pale, light haired, and just completely willing to blend in when it's needed. Of course, beneath all that, he's really rather interesting, indeed.
    • Curious As a Monkey → Bod lived in a graveyard for nearly fifteen years. He had some old books and he had tutors but he's been completely deprived of a lot of things so he's always going to be utterly curious.
    • Meaningful Name → Nobody Owens. Per Miss Owens, thus named because 'he's like nobody but himself.' Awww.

    Drake Demon

    [personal profile] carpe_demon 2010-09-06 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
  • Deal with the Devil -- or with a Sorcerer, to be more exact, to become human for a year.
  • Incredibly Lame Pun -- Drake Dèmon
  • Loveable Rogue -- indeed.
  • Nico di Angelo

    [identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
    • L is For Dyslexia (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LIsForDyslexia) | Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AttentionDeficitOohShiny) | Divine Parentage (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DivineParentage): All the demigods suffer these three tropes, but find them to be helpful when they're dealing with their Mist-free world.
    • Took A Level In Badass (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TookALevelInBadass): Nico learned pretty fast how to be awesome with his powers.
    • Annoying Younger Sibling (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnnoyingYoungerSibling): Even if Bianca is dead, Nico still has the annoying thing in spades. He just points it at Percy and his crew of misfits.
    • Break the Cutie (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BreakTheCutie): Clearly the youngest, most adorable character has to be the one destroyed by family loss and discovering he's the child of death.
    • Cool Sword (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CoolSword): At least Nico has a sweet sword?

You're just lucky it's a holiday and I have time to get lost in TV Tropes.

    * Comic Book Time (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ComicBookTime) - He's been in the comics for twenty years and has aged from 13 to 17. Even though the events he's been involved in have added up to more than four years' worth of time in in-universe time.
    * The Cowl (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheCowl) - He's the Dark Knight's sidekick.
    * Crazy Prepared (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CrazyPrepared) - This is a Batfamily specialty. Of course, Tim's the one who wore a mask under his mask so he'd be ready for a Truth or Dare game during a campout with Young Justice.
    * Jumped At The Call (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JumpedAtTheCall) - Tim was a major Batman and Robin fanboy before he even met them. He chose to be Robin when the job was offered because he wanted to help people.
    * Legacy Character (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LegacyCharacter) - This one's obvious. He's even in the picture for the trope!
    * Secret Identity (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SecretIdentity) - People who know Tim Drake don't know he's Robin. People who know he's Robin don't know he's Tim Drake.
    * Superheroes Wear Capes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SuperheroesWearCapes) - The previous Robins, Dick and Jason, both ditched their capes once they moved on. (Except for the Morrison Jason, but we don't talk about that.) Tim loves that cape, dude.

    • The Chosen One (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheChosenOne) → Jonas is chosen to the Receiver of Memory. That happens once in blue moon in the Community.
    • Naive Newcomer (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NaiveNewcomer) → Yeah, poor Jonas was completely isolated in one place for nearly fifteen years. Now, he's out in the real world, seeing everything for the first time. That makes him so naive and so gullible.
    • War is Hell (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WarIsHell) → Jonas experienced war through one of the Giver's memory and it was just absolutely traumatizing and awful for him. He never wants to see it again.
    • Blank Slate (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BlankSlate) → The guy has like three memories coming out of the Community. He's completely a blank slate. He knows nothing.
