Bodyswap Weekend!

From the creative minds that brought you sliced bread and Toaster Strudel*, here comes another cracky weekend!

It's Bodyswap Weekend, bbs!

On February 18th and 19th, if you choose to participate, characters will wake up randomly inhabiting the bodies of other people on the island. This means they'll also have the fun of waking up in the other person's bed/blanket fort/underwater shack/wherever they happen to have slept the night before! Hooray!

Here are some questions that you didn't ask, but might want to! And answers too. This is how generous we are, guys.

Who can my character switch with?
They can swap bodies with people they're friends with or people they've never met, whatever. Equal opportunity wacky! (Though we would prefer students stick with students and adults with adults, for plz-no-squicking's sake.)

What about powers?
We'll keep it up to your discretion whether character powers translate along with the mind-swap. Obviously it'll vary on a case-by-case basis, but in most instances, more physical powers will probably translate to the characters taking on their body (so, say, Warren's ability to fly), while powers that are more mind-y (like Tara's spells, etc.) won't. The bodyswap is purely a physical thing – no feelings or memories will be exchanged, so a character's control over the powers they've inherited will probably vary case-by-case, too. Topher might end up with Warren's wings. That doesn't mean he'd know what to do with them.**

How do I decide who to switch with, omg?
There are some options here! You can choose your own partners, which won't require any kind of sign-ups, or if you'd prefer, there is also a thread below for RNGing partnered pairs in a one-to-one arrangement (so if Topher wakes up in Warren's body, Warren also wakes up in Topher's). If you choose the RNG route, you have until Friday, February 10th to sign up in the relevant OCD thread below, and pairs will go out on Saturday the 11th to give you time to grab icons and communicate with each other about your plans. (Please remember that if you do sign up for the RNG, to have your contact information on your profile page, because we'll need to email you to let you know who you end up with!)

If you have any other questions, feel free to drop them in the relevant OCD below, or email either of us (Shannon or Michelle) at thane (dot) incarnadine (at) gmail (dot) com or watcherwesley (at) gmail (dot) com! We'll also have a brainstorming thread set up if you want to choose your own partner, as well as a thread for RNGing if you'd rather be surprised! Woo!

I just noticed that this event will end up overlapping with Spring Break -- which makes it difficult for me as I seldom end up sending my kids on the school trips, and might end up with someone in Rio (or not in Rio) when they didn't intend to be (or did), come the end of the event.

. . . I'm hoping that made sense.

*nod* Yeah, that was the date we were offered, specifically because of the Spring Break. It wasn't an oversight. It was done intending to add further chaos to the weekend, I think, but I can see how it would be problematic for people who partner off with someone who does or doesn't want to go.

That said, I don't think it would be unheard of for people who won't be in the same country during the swap back to make a switch back at the end of the first day, instead of going on the trip, and then finding themselves suddenly shunted back to their own body and getting shafted from Rio.

If people don't want to swap back early, there's always the "these things usually just last a weekend, you go on ahead and we'll trade places when this wears off," option, if you have characters that are likely to think of that sort of thing. :)

For those who want to leap into the RNG, perhaps it would be best to specify if they're going on the trip and would like to stay on the trip as well, just so we can match people up according to their needs. I'll edit the OCD there while I still can so that people are aware.

[livejournal.com profile] need_no_moon is making me ask this because she is at work and lame.

With pre-arranged swaps, is it kosher to swap accounts for the length of the event so we can make use of all the pretty icons rather than just one or two that we would upload to our own account? Can this be done at player discretion?

Sorry about the wait – we had to run this one by the admins before giving you a final answer!

It looks like swapping journals isn't going to be an option – in addition to being a little iffy security-wise, it also makes for some confusion about who's participating. But if it's a matter of needing more icon space, we can suggest maybe disabling your default icon and then coding icons into the body of comments, if that helps out at all!

RNG Mercy please? She'll be going on the spring trip and would rather get to stay there.

I laughed far too much at the idea of Herc and Rilla swapping bodies, ngl.

I feel like a horrible person but I still regret nothing.
