New Meme! - Holidays

A couple weeks ago I went on a Tumblr trawl for RP memes, and this is one that seemed pretty easy to adapt to us.

Send me a holiday and I’ll write a drabble about our characters celebrating together.

OR

Ask my character a question about a holiday: favorite food, plans for an upcoming holiday, favorite gift received, cherished memories, etc!

For example: I ping in Victor. Ahddie sends me Emma Frost and New Year's Eve. I drabble about Victor and Emma snarking while they fight evil in Times Square just before the ball drops. Everybody wins :-).

Topher and Stiles, Valentine's Day.

I am 100% the worst, yup.

Unsurprisingly, the night ended in women of negotiable virtue, gambling, and rather more alcohol than was healthy for either of their livers. The events leading up to the hookers, blackjack, and booze however...

Bond and Tyrion had drawn the short straws with regard to chaperoning the Valentine's Dance, which had even more horny teenagers than usual (the AU teens showing up before the dance in an unexpected twist of Fandom Weirdness). Having pre-spiked a bowl of punch as a coping mechanism, the two got to talking, and as they shared more tales of romantic woe, drank steadily more punch (enough that it ended up being the first Fandom High dance ever where no student consumed adulterated punch).

It was unclear who first mentioned gambling, but it was definitely Bond's idea for a quick portal hop to Monaco, and Tyrion's to try another city when they were thrown out of the third casino of the night.

Neither of them knew where the traffic cone came from, or why they ended up married to each other in Vegas instead of any of the number of the ladies of the night who accompanied them on through their many portal jumps.

Tara and Ender, Easter/spring equinox

"I don't know why we have to celebrate this," Topher complained. "It's a stupid holiday."

Peter caught Petra's eyes momentarily, then turned back to Topher with a sigh. "It's important for the Hegemon to--"

"--respect the cultural traditions of whatever country he is in at the time, yadda yadda yadda, but do we really have to be a part of it?" Topher said. "I mean, really! There are poems! And jello!" Beat. "Okay, the jello was fun, but poems, man!"

"The Dutch take Sinterklaas very seriously," Peter said, straight-faced, "And therefor as the Hegemon it is my responsibility to take it just as seriously. Now give me your damned poem so I can read it to the group. I can make anything sound good."

Topher shot forward and tried to pull the sheet of paper out of Peter's hands. But Petra beat him to it, snagging Topher's wrists and dragging him bodily away from Peter. "Play nice, geek," she said.

Topher whined pitifully. Why had Peter insisted on marrying pink She-Beast?

"There was once a man in the United States, that did not enjoy a wait. So because Saint Nicholas is totally cool, he picked up some wool, and totally took him to school--" Beat. "Really, Topher?"

"Just shut up and get to the jello!"

[[okay, all I know of Bond is from, like, two threads, but here we go.]]

"Now, what's important here," Max said as he and Bond entered the fourth club of the night, "is the strategic collection of beads. You're gonna want to take your shirt off exactly three and two-thirds paces toward the bar, and you're gonna want the bartender named Rick. Sucker for a British accent."

"Rick," Bond repeated, glancing over at the bar. "Would that be--?"

"I'm not done," Max interrupted. "When you get to Rick -- ginger, but no freckles; I know, it baffles my mind too -- you're gonna want to order something classy, but easy to find. Make sure to use flattery, heavy but not too heavy, and mention your favorite color is a color the beads come in. That means purple, green, or blue. Don't pick pink, it messes with your image. You got that?"

Bond gave a solemn nod. "Got it."

"You sure?" Max checked, taking in the rest of the club now. Lots of guys dancing -- ooh, hot Asian guy near the bathrooms. Max liked. "'Cause you still might not make it through this. I've given you the best advice I can, but getting beads in a gay club on Mardi Gras is a serious--"

He glanced back to make eye contact with Bond, but he wasn't there. "Wha--"

"Right here," Bond said, tapping Max on the other shoulder. He had eight strings of purple beads around his neck. He glanced at his watch and reported, "Nine and a half seconds. Shall I time you as well?"

Laziness seems a good way to kick off my first day back to the game....

"You know he was going to know it was us, right?"

Stiles shook his head. "Nah, I'm wearing some of Cade's dirty clothes so he'll think it was him and you."

Jack frowned. "Oh thanks."

"No problem," Stiles said, handing Jack the bag he brought that was filled with toilet paper. "Okay, now start hanging this everywhere and I'll egg the windows."

"I still don't get why we couldn't have just passed out candy," Jack said, though he did start doing as Stiles asked. It might not have been nice, but it did look like fun.

"Because screwing with someone's house is Halloween tradition," Stiles said. "And pissing off Derek is a hobby of mine, I thought you knew this."

"Yes, I'm quite familiar with the fact that you have a death wish," Jack said, sighing. "But why are we doing it to just his bedroom and not the outside of the entire house."

"Because I don't want to upset Mike," Stiles said before launching an egg at one of the windows.

Jack winced as he watched the egg splatter against the window and just knew that he was going to be involved in the clean up of all this.

Surreal and Cara, winter solstice.

"I'm sorry I can't offer you anything in return," Ender said.

Tara looked up from where she was artfully arranging her little basket of eggs and chocolate easter bunnies (and candles, of course). "D-don't worry about it," she said, smiling a little. "I just thought-- maybe if I bring the eggs, your chickens will finally remember what they're supposed to be doing around this time of year."

Ender's mouth quirked in return and he stuck his hands in his pockets. "Probably not until the next generation is born with the proper modifications," he said, "But I appreciate the sentiment."

"Well, you did say it was the spring equinox on this planet," she said, brushing some hair behind her ear. "It'd be unfair if you and Valentine didn't get to celebrate it the right way."

Ender nodded at the candles. "That's for Goddess rites?" he guessed.

Tara smiled ruefully. "I've seen your soil," she said. "A-and I'm sure Demeter won't mind making a little detour every once and a while."

"Why, I think that was an insult to our good name."

"Dude," Max declared around a mouthful of potato pancake, "this is a kick-ass latke. You made these?"

Jack smiled. "The trick is not overdoing the onions," he shared. "Using a whole one is fine if you're just going to drench them in applesauce, but for a normal batch of twelve, you want two tablespoons max."

"Good to know, good to know," Max decided as he popped another latke into his mouth. "See-- my usual strategy is to have my WASPy friend Jane make these guys for me, but hers don't have that made-by-an-M.O.T kick."

Charming, Max.

"Well, I try," Jack said with a grin. "By the way, thank you for coming. I don't usually have a lot of guests for Hanukkah around here, especially ones who'll appreciate the traditional food."

"Dude, no problem," Max replied emphatically around another bite of food. "And I think you're underestimating how much everyone likes fried potatoes."

Everyone who liked joy, anyway. There was probably a reason Derek had turned down the invitation.

"So," Max continued, "another half batch of these and then we'll get to the chocolate, right? I brought like a whole backpack full of gelt, so we're probably not gonna run out."

Probably.

Dumping them all in one, sure.
