pasunereveuse: It's probably-butchered French for "not a dreamer," and based on the fact that the followers of the Night Circus are called rêveurs. But Celia's not a rêveur (or the feminine-per-the-internet, rêveuse) because she's part of the circus itself -- and, on top of that, she's not much of a dreamer. She's very practical, a total control freak, and doesn't spend a lot of time with her head in the clouds.

notmysupervisor: It's one of Cheryl's catchphrases,

holyshitsnacks suggested it and it was free, and the rest is history.

justwantsquiet: Super-basic. Sookie just wants some damn quiet in her head, please.

auroryborealis: It's something someone calls her when writing in Rory's senior yearbook in canon, and her original username -- the wildly creative "rory__gilmore" needed to be changed. Done.

My one little AU kiddo this time around was

bornachallenger, which is actually kind of incorrect in hindsight but I was staring down the deadline for submitting the app for the kid, omg. As Celia and Marco's kid, Margaret would be the product of the two participants in the DUN DUN DUN magic challenge Celia's always going on about, and if they were at all like their predecessors, they'd probably pit her against someone else later on --- thus, she's "born a challenger." I think my thought process was more "lol she'd be a handful," though.

I just literally stole Marvel's username for Evan from his official Twitter account.

If it's good enough for Marvel, it's good enough for me!

I get instantly earwormed about 75% of the time when I read Elsa's username, so it's both clever and effective.

(But let's be real, it'd probably get randomly stuck in my head about that often anyway without your help. That song is infectious, in the best way.)

Another one ripped right out of canon, from Sparkle's one big introspective monologue in Habitat, said right after his best friend in the whole entire world screams at him about how he doesn't care about anything at all. The whole situation is a bit on the triggery side and the monologue itself is iffy- it's on his profile page, if you want to read it in its entirety, but it ends with, "I look at their faces and I see my own face."

Gonna be seeing more of this one now that Nikolai's actually starting to play superhero from time to time, but this is pretty much his trademark thing. He's styled Gorgon after a sort of wild west gunslinger steampunk motorbike gangster cowboy, and he just constantly falls into this hands-at-his-sides pose, like a gunslinger from the movies.

Warren might come from the movieverse, but I couldn't resist making a parakeet reference when the comics, especially the older ones, are full of them, like so!

I love that quote. Cosette gets dismissed as boring and useless by a lot of people -- hell, I did it too for years, and then on some of my more recent rereads I went "Hey, you know what? It's not her fault Hugo kind of fails at writing female characters with equal depth." She's more interesting than the narrative actively spells out, so I wanted to pick a username that highlighted that.

I actually wanted her username to be in French to match Éponine's, but "faroucheetbrave" was too long and looked weird anyway.

ETA: Except now I'm tempted to change it to "plutotalouette" so she and Éponine can both have usernames with animal imagery and nooooooooo must not give in.

My favorite favorite FAVORITE Éponine scene in any incarnation of the story is where she keeps her father and Patron-Minette from breaking into Valjean's house and finding Marius and Cosette in the garden, so I am not on speaking terms with any adaptation that leaves it out. It's the only unquestionably selfless and courageous thing she does in the entire book, which is a huge character moment for her because she definitely wasn't raised to value those traits.

It was also an awesome reply to her father calling her a bitch.

(Footnote: HOW IS IT that out of all the English translations, only Norman Denny translates "Chienne" as "bitch?" All the others use "Slut" or "Whore," which, okay, not entirely inaccurate but THE PUN WAS RIGHT THERE HOW DO YOU CHOOSE TO MISS IT WTF.)

Roland's my only new kid since last time, so let's see:

Bards in Roland's universe (and probably some folklore, but it's not one I've encountered in other spots -- not that I spend a lot of time reading about bards or anything) spend "seven years learning, seven years practicing, and seven years playing" (or thereabouts, I can't look up the precise quote just now). Roland, as we're told by the indomitable Mrs. Ruth, baglady, prophet, and crone extraordinaire, has only just finished his first fourteen years (he started playing at 14, and is currently 28). He has seven years of playing left before he really comes fully into his bardic power, or . . . something. (Look, canon is suuuuper not clear on some of these details, m'kay?)

Flick's is a play off something he thinks in the book. Basically, he can steal things with just a flick of the wrist. He's just that good (or so he thinks, of course). So, we've got his name plus his skill all rolled into one.

flickofthewrist was taken so I modified it a bit to flickofawrist and I've really grown to like it.

Jim's username isn't one of my favorites and I keep getting the urge to change it. Basically, he's a just a regular ole farmboy who's seeking more or, once he gets into Starfleet Academy, he starts seeking the stars.

But, there's a few purged accounts that I'm looking at possibly changing to. The big one is boldly_going for obvious reasons. I've got the tokens to do it now I just have to pull the trigger.

Eleanor's is a mangled quote of hers -- while she's off carving up splicers and getting some of those anger issues out, she announces crankily, "I am not your bloody Messiah!"

It's not an exaggeration: they literally want her to be THE MESSIAH who will save them all. There are actual (http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100218085621/bioshock/images/d/d6/Vent_shrine.jpg) shrines (http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100217080554/bioshock/images/f/fa/Rapture_Family.jpg) built to her and to weird things like her Little Sister dress (marked as Her Holy Vestments) and it's so, so creepy.

Eleanor is not here to be your bloody Messiah. She's Eleanor, thank you very much, and she intends to stay that way.

I nearly went for "loveisachemical" instead but that sounded cynical, whereas she uses it in completely the opposite way. She tells her not-Father that love is only ever a chemical: it doesn't matter that their bond was lab-created. It's still real, dammit, and she still loves him.

Pam's was easy -- "Holy shitsnacks!" is her favorite curse. It was a purged username, but I did not have a hard time deciding to blow $15 on it.

rilla_myrilla is a play on Rilla's nickname of Rilla-my-Rilla that Walter, then Ken use as a pun on her given name of Marilla.

texted3times was a quote from Eric to Beeeeell when Bill comes into Bill's house to find Eric lounging in his bathtub (Eric has boundary issues). He was told "I texted three times" when Bill demanded to know what he was doing there.

professor_lyman is from the very first year of the game and as such is wicked uncreative. Also "finestmuffinsandbagels" is too long.

ALUMNI:

momslilassassin was for when Ben was a wee solemn 14 year old mama's boy when he arrived and became an assassin before lunch because Star Wars and realism don't mix. It doesn't fit him as well any more but I can't imagine changing it.

tatooine_doofus is because Luke is from Tatooine and as hard as he tries, is still a bit of a doof. Ben's NPC Luke is

notsoreckless because he's grown out of some of the impulsiveness Yoda disapproved of in fifty years or so. (Some but not all...)

bloody_luck was for Mat Cauthon because he curses extensively ("bloody" is his go-to), he has amazing luck, and back home his luck tends to get him stuck onto bloody battlefields. Poor Mat.

Rinoa was hard because every fucking username I could think of for her was already taken. Like even the "what if I put an underscore in it" variations. Put her name and the words "wing[s]," "feather[s]," "sorceress," "angel," "Timber," and "princess," in a blender and every possible combo came up. It was maddening.

"Angel" is associated with her because of the white angel wings on her sweater, and later because of the big fluffy angel wings she grows. "Angelo" is the name of her amazing rescue dog. (Full name: Sant'Angelo di Roma, which no one ever uses.) So I smushed it weirdly and came up with

angelo_wings, which implies she has wings because of her dog. I am okay with that.

I saw the movie after you'd made the journal, and assumed it was a straightforward "she's the snow queen, she's isolated, add in ice pun" reference.

When we hit that line of the song, I sat up straight in the theater and was all "OH. OH I GET IT."

Oh, I so know that pain. Trying to come up with usernames for Tseng's NPC journals, and for Reno's journal, and Zack's, and and and...

God, finding a good username for Chuck was a huge-ass challenge. He doesn't have any super-snappy quotes in the movie (he's more of a BZUHHHH I HATE YA [excessive fake Australian accent] kinda guy) and I couldn't think of a good play on Striker Eureka either.

So I wound up going with a play off of both

jaegerbomber.

jaegerborn looks almost like 'jaegerbomb' (which MAY OR MAY NOT be a reference to Chuck's fate, cough) but isn't; it also refers to the way Chuck was basically born and raised to be a Jaeger pilot, unlike both Raleigh and his father, who rolled into it at a later age just because.

suitablyheroic is, like many of the following usernames, entirely to be blamed on my love of stealing quotes for usernames. Sadly many of Atton's best quotes are un-usernameable, so I went with the one I could use. It's actually from the very end of KotOR II, when Our Heroes minus the Main Hero attempt to show how much they've learned about Jedi-ing by surprise-attacking the villain themselves. Every one of them wanders in with some earnest but in-your-face HA! badass line. Then Atton shows up. "And here I come in, saying something suitably heroic."

Dude just can't resist even in the face of possible annihilation, man.

lockestheway was an attempt to manage a similar punny Escher painting username like endsthegame. Peter's Locke, Locke's the way, Peter locks the way forward, blah blah blah sometimes I think I'm clever.

fewerexplosions is another quote one from the first Mass Effect game. During squad banter, Liara gets questioned about the whole being-an-archaeologist-versus-what-they're-doing-now thing. She answers differently based on which squadmate you bring, but it's always a variation on 'I would prefer longer studies and fewer explosions.' Which is basically Liara in a nutshell, at least at the start of the series, though she's not afraid to get her hands dirty.

not_a_whiner is yet another quote one. In the first game, you can get Kaidan to open up about his past, but it requires some effort. Later, he explains why - it's because he doesn't want you thinking that he's, uh, a whiner. (This is an IG reference to another character Kaidan's VO played in a previous game - to be exact, Knights of the Old Republic the first, the prequel to Atton's game. Said character got the reputation of being a whiner.)

nomeatvirgin Ron Swanson is not a meat virgin. Period.

fjordicswagger is an extremely dorky combination of 'nordic', 'swagger', and dead parrot sketch referencing. Because. Extra-thematic post-apping because Tamsin officially dies at the end of the third season, then comes back.

The name is, of course, a reference to "Why so serious?", Heath Ledger's Joker's famous quote. And "fly" because he's a pilot.

There's a deeper level, there, too, because he is serious about flying. In canon (which I absolutely had to fudge, but still), he gets the nickname "Joker" in flight school, because he almost never smiles while he's there.

Incidentally, the journal name I used for his robospawn,

islets_of_dr_me, comes from his battlecry, "You just landed on the island of doctor ME!" ... Which makes me sad that there's no good way to meta that for in-game use.

She's basically narrating the moves she's using to take out exes, and one of those lines goes, "Spin kick. Spin kick. Roundhouse. Snap. Flip up to the fire escape." The snap is the sound of the exes' necks breaking. She is (or, y'know, will be) a badass superhero who uses gymnast moves to take out exes.
