Random Events for Next Week
We briefly interrupt your BDE shenanigans to give you a heads-up on some post-BDE shenanigans!
Fandom knows everybody's going to need some cheering up after this is all over, so on
Sunday, March 29, she'll put out a silent invitation to a species of soft, fluffy human-sized teddy bears, who will be wandering around the island silently offering big squishy hugs to anyone who wants them. For a very broad definition of "want" that includes "Oh HAYLL NAW" on the character's part and "Ahahahaha yes" on the player's.
Which will be followed by a week of the island throwing a bunch of mostly harmless fun our way. For, once again, certain Fandom-centric definitions of "harmless," and "fun."
March 30: Manic Monday - Everything is due, you're running late, you missed your rickshaw, your favorite TV or radio show has been moved up by an hour and you forgot to set the TiVO... and yet, for some reason, your character's in an inexplicably good mood about it all. Sure, they might have a sudden urge to CLEAN ALL THE THINGS and go to the bank like an MF-ing adult, but for a change, they'll also have the energy to CLEAN ALL THE THINGS and go to the bank like a MF-ing adult! ...Also, for some reason, you have a Bangles song stuck in your head. (Fandom's happy, boppy, 80's-music idea of manic is in play here - the kind of downside-free experience we only wish the word described in the real world.)
March 31: Taco Tuesday - No matter what you thought was on the menu, it appears that every food and beverage establishment people wander into on the island (including their fridge) is serving tacos. Fish tacos, sushi tacos, doughnut tacos, won ton tacos, Taco flavored coffee, Apu is wearing a sombrero...
April 1: Wires-Crossed Wednesday - You know exactly what this means: the date-appropriate return of Wacky Phone Day! Phone calls, voicemails, text-messages, e-mails, and any other kind of electronic communication, on-island or off, will end up routed everyplace but where they belong.
April 2: Throwback Thursday - If a character makes the mistake of thinking about something they did earlier in the day, they'll find themselves transported back to that place. (Not in time, just physically.) Which makes getting across the island a challenge, if all you can do is think about how much you miss being in bed.
April 3: Follow Friday - Why do biiiirds suddenly appear, every time you are near? Nobody knows, but they're small, they're blue and they're following you. Sometimes they just tweet pretty songs, and sometimes they try to get other people to notice what your character is doing. "AWWWK! Atton's breaking into your office again! AWWWK!" But only in 140 characters or less.
Everything but the phone mixups is confined to the island, but will absolutely affect alums and expats if they happen to visit on that day.

I'm marking Wednesday on my calendar right now.

Question! If say someone is out of town at the start of Thursday and they think about something they did there when they return to Fandom, would they be transported back out of town? Or should it only work if they're thinking about things they did in Fandom?
no subject
Only things they did in Fandom, and it'll only work while they're in Fandom. So no getting sucked back to the island while they're out of town, and no getting kicked off the island to some other place that they visited earlier in the day. (That one is more for the spirit of the thing than any particular magic/science logic: Fandom's feeling clingy and apologetic next week, so she's not going to want to send anyone away.)

That'll work, ty!

It'll generate a random character when you open it, and a new one every minute thereafter.

All linked now!

And that is very, very shiny.

And then I check to see if I've pinged that player already yet today, and re-run as needed.
It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only neurotic one about this o/

If not an initial message but further along in a chain of misunderstandings, then people usually include links at both ends so folks can follow the path of how far things went astray.
I.E.
Hannibal tries to leave a message for Jono asking him to meet at Hannibal's office, but you leave it in Anakin's voicemail post. Anakin misinterprets what was said and tries to call Hannibal back (or tries to call whoever he thinks left the message based on its content, for extra misdirection), but his message gets left in Raven's inbox.
That "I don't know you that well and also I'm married" message from Anakin would include a link back to Hannibal's comment so Raven's player can trace it back, and he'd also respond directly to Hannibal's comment with a link to Raven's voicemail so you can trace it forward.

Ahem.
