It's Summer Outdoor Abode-of-Some-Type Time!
It's summertime in Fandom, and you all know what that means!
Tiny rocks out in a Borat-insprired mankini and everyone is struck blind, but also camping in the Preserve, and since the "let's go to the cute hotel on Ingvar" last year was a big ol' nope, the fearless leaders of the School Board have decided to get cultural!
Are afraid? Maybe a little bit?
Good. Because from June 21st until July 5th, everyone is moving into 8-person yurts! Oh, happy days! Oh joyful, yak-milk filled fun times!
But WAIT! There's MORE!
Each camper will be provided with a super comfortable futon straight from the Ikea (in a flatpack box with an allen wrench, so good luck with that). Each yurt will have with one (1) sturdy Igloo cooler for all your food-preservation needs (inexplicably and permanently stocked with yak butter, but there's space for other stuff too), and the finest in personalized climate control via one (1) door that you are installing yourselves, one (1) allegedly waterproof skylight in the roof, and the breeze coming through the lattice around the sides. Hopefully someone in your yurt is handy because you will be putting these monsters up yourselves! So character building!
Each yurt, like the cabins before them, also has its own small campfire outside, and a wee stove inside for yurt team building exercises as you all sit on your futons and sip yak-butter tea. As you do.
Running water and restroom/shower facilities (individual shower stalls with curtains) are conveniently located in a central building only a few hundred feet away from the tent area, so campers should be sure to bring their flippity-floppities and bathrobes for any late-night trips.
Electricity is available, via a six-outlet ground-stake outside each tent, but be careful not to overload it or your laptop-drained campmates might not be too happy with you! Wi-Fi signal from the school is also available. ...Sometimes. You might have to try standing on a rock or holding your computer at a certain angle.
Campers will move into the tents on Sunday, June 21st and will remain there for two weeks until Sunday, July 5th when everyone will gather up their stuff and return to the good old dorm rooms.
Graduating seniors who are sticking around this half of summer will have their own tent area separate from the rest of the student body since none of them have to wake up early for workshops. Unless they're teaching or TAing, and then they can deal.
Teachers and townies will continue to live in their own town residences, lucky people.
Sexing in the Yurts
....AHAHAHAHAHAHA.
There are no walls that aren't made of cloth. There is no bathroom for people to bang on the door of because they want a shower. There are no doors or walls at all between you and the people sharing a tent with you.
Good luck with that.
Unless you can create magical cloaking barriers, everyone in your tent CAN SEE YOU if you're getting some action, and half the people outside can at least hear you. If you do not want to deal with yelling, flying buckets of cold water, or other retaliatory measures (as entertaining as some of us find that to be!) there are a number of places you can go to get your groove on in private (provided someone hasn't already claimed the space at that time).
Of course, you don't have to go outside your tent, but, UM. Unless it's empty except for you and your optional friend(s), you are very likely to be facing the wrath of your yurtmates (totally a word) if you don't. To avoid facing the discomfort of your yurtmates' players, a little OOC communication about bedtime activities goes a long way.
Also, since there's pretty much no privacy in the yurts, please remain aware of the need for OOC warnings if your character is up to something that might be triggery, but also try to set things up ICly so that it's reasonable for yurtmates to be absent or unaware if their players wish them to.
General Campground Facilities
The campground is located in the Preserve and is generally the same in set-up as in years past. It has a kitchen and dining hall, a small outdoor gymnasium, and a main campfire. There are plenty of secluded places for the secretive and romantic types.
The main campfire is free for everyone to enjoy whenever, provided it's not already being used for something else. The school and town are a short hike away (the Preserve is bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside). There is an abandoned shack a short walk away that's great for secret meetings for couples and the shoreline of the island isn't too far away either. There are clearings in the Preserve as well that can be modded as needed.
The gym area is available on site and should be used like the school gym. The kitchen and dining hall are readily available for use as well. The storage locker is for all sporting/workshop/other equipment that you might need.
What about the dorms/school/town?
When it comes to the dorms, it's fine to openly use the first floor and basement facilities as there's hope everyone does laundry at some point. However, the IC administration would be unhappy to hear of students going back to sleep (or do Other Things You Probably Don't Want To Be Public About Anyway) in their rooms on a regular basis, so try to be ICly sneaky about that type of thing. If you want your character to get in trouble for spending too much time in the dorms, OOCly let one of the admins know, and we'll set you up with an appropriate IC principal/VP/dean/security type.
The Danger Shop will still be accessible for workshops and the library will be open at the discretion of the librarian.
Town, of course, is business as usual.
What do I post where?
Sign-Ups: How Do They Work?
Here's how they work: you have the option of being randomly assigned to a yurt on your own or you can sign up with a partner (someone you'd like to share a yurt with). Each yurt has 8 people in it, so once sign-ups close, pairs will be allocated to tents and then anyone who's a single will be slotted in as well.
Using the OCD thread below, sign up in pairs with one person commenting to the main thread and the other person commenting collapsey-style beneath the first person to verify that they do want to be partnered up. Think of it like signing into classes, only in sets of two.
Graduating seniors will have their own set of slightly bigger (but still 8-person) tents, so they need to pair up with other graduates. Other than that, you can partner up with whoever you want.
Yurt Sign-Up FAQ
What if my character ends up in a tent with someone they don't like?
Have fun with it. Conflict is just as much fun to play with as everyone getting along. If it's real problem ICly, then remember it's only for two weeks and it's entirely possible to get through that time without seeing much of your tentmates, if you're careful. If there are OOC issues, though, talk to us and we'll see what we can work out.
Can we purposefully sign up a pair who don't like each other, and blame a "paperwork mixup"?
Absolutely, as long as you both agree to it.
Are these IC pairs or OOC pairs?
These are IC pairs that will have handwavily been turned in at the office unless you're planning on a paperwork mix-up.
Can we sign up as a threesome not-dirty or possibly dirty?
Nope, pairs only. It makes it much easier to stick two pair together for each tent.
Do I have to pair up with my dorm roommate?
Nope!
All of my character's friends have graduated/left/been eaten by drop-bears or I'm new so I don't have a partner for them or I don't want to be with anyone in particular. What do I do?
Nothing! If you don't sign up here, we will assign you to a tent anyway. Everyone living in the dorms has to go to the tents. This sign-up post is really to give people the opportunity to cling to someone else if they want to rather than relying on the Random Number Generator gods.
Sign-ups will close at 11:59 pm Pacific time on Friday, June 19th.

- The dorms (but please don't make a habit of going back there every night)
- The preserve (if you don't mind teal deer watching)
- The woods (if you don't mind the bugs watching)
- The abandoned shack (created specifically for things that require privacy)
- Serenity Cove and the beach (yay for sand in uncomfortable places)

What do I post where?
- Workshops, regardless of the location, should be posted in
fandomhigh. - Campfire posts (whether the main campfire or a tent-campfire), any other use of the campground, Preserve, or public areas on school grounds should go in
fandomhighdorms. - The yurts don't have a common area because these yurts are basically giant, wall-less tents. Anything set inside a tent should go in the personal journal of one of the tentmates, and those who don't live there should ICly be asking before entering. There aren't any alcoves, so pretty much the smallest area you can limit your post to is the whole tent. If you need a separate area and a tentmate has already put up a tent post, that's the time to be sneaking off to the woods/the shack/the dorms/etc.
