Hey folks!

I come bearing your bubblehut assignments and Fandom Island map for the next two weeks! (Which means this post doubles as a 'btw, we're going to be on a planetoid all by ourselves instead of parking on any particular planet next week' announcement.)

Please let us know if we've made any kind of mistake with the assignments so we can go in and fix it! Further information on how bubblehut camping works can be found here; if you have any questions, please ask them below so we can answer 'em, too.

Bubblehut basics

Each bubblehut is comfortable and temperature-controlled due to the planetoid's just-the-right-side-of-summer warm rock. Each bubblehut has a small set of stairs neatly hewn into the rock leading up to it; everyone will be placed in groups of three bubblehuts with their own covelike mini-clearing to share. It houses two (2) students a piece. Each student will be given a mattress and a privacy curtain they can use to shield themselves from their roommate, though probably not the world. The planetoid has no day-night cycle to speak of, so while you are in your bubblehut, you will have 24/7, 360 degree views of THE UNIVERSE AT LARGE!

The underwater huts are accessible via a small tunnel leading into the rock from the edge of the old camping grounds, and exist in larger bubbles to block out the water. The tunnels were built by aliens now long-gone, so they, too, are comfy and temperature-conditioned. There are flashy lights. It's fun.

Electricity is available. The aliens built a robust system in the rock, and the island has been so kind as to provide each outlet with a region-appropriate plug.

Restroom facilities are in a large cave in the center of the rock and provide space for all genders to indulge their sanitary needs in peace and privacy.

Campers will move in on the 25th of June and move back out on the 10th of July. They will find a small, cheery note that says 'WELCOME CAMPERS' in alien scribble on the front of their bubblehut entrances. No one knows why, though here and there, the remains of an alien lanyard can be found.

Fandom! It's summertime, break week is just around the corner, and the island's on summer vacation! What better time to have our yearly camping trip?

This time around, the island's happy to facilitate!

And that should fill you with dread.

On Saturday, June 25th the island will make contact with a passing planetoid. This tiny, tiny space rock has a small atmosphere generator buried in its nethers, which has allowed it to form green grass, azure water, and a whole broad range of bubblehuts scaling up the side of the small mountain that runs up from its peak - settling behind the preserve - down into the waters that'll stretch out beyond Fandom's dock.

So... bubblehut camping. )

Sign-ups will close at 11:59 pm Pacific time on Tuesday, June 21st.

Your Summer Yurt Assignments and Campground Map. (Those names at the top of each group are also links to a picture of the yurt you are supposed to build. Mwahaha.)

Each camper will be provided with a battery-operated lamp and a futon. Each castle will be provided with one (1) tool kit full of allen wrenches, hammers, and bandaids, one (1) helpful instruction guide (in Ikea pictographs) for building your futons and one (1) less-helpful instruction guide (in Babelfish-translated Mongolian) for building your yurt. You also receive one (1) sturdy Igloo cooler for all your food-preservation needs, and it will be filled all the time with treats of the country your yurt is named for (so. much. rice pilaf.)!

Move-in date is Sunday, and this time you can assume your characters have probably guessed what awaits them (though honest to Ingvar, the administration tried to get something better).

Should there be any errors in character placement or lack thereof, lemme know and I'll fix that right up!

It's summertime in Fandom, and you all know what that means!

Tiny rocks out in a Borat-insprired mankini and everyone is struck blind, but also camping in the Preserve, and since the "let's go to the cute hotel on Ingvar" last year was a big ol' nope, the fearless leaders of the School Board have decided to get cultural!

Are afraid? Maybe a little bit?

The hilllllllls are alive with the sound of yaks...mooing? Do they moo? )

Just a reminder that tomorrow is move-back day, when you regretfully have to take leave of your haunted rooms and your weeping, whistling, wall-freezing neighbors. Don't worry; the pest-control guys have been hard at work, and the dorms will be fully Stolp-free.

Probably.

As promised, there'll be a couple of additions to the Haunted House on Ingvar Islet for Noir Weekend. Appearing (for certain values of the word) on Saturday/Sunday only, students, grads, and any visitors are welcome to encounter:

The Whistler: This whistled snatch of song, echoing in the hallways, stairwells, and even outside on the porch. May or may not be accompanied by a tall, thin shadow in a long coat and trilby, his* collar turned up against the chill of a coastal night. (*Maybe? Who knows? It's a shadow. It might be the shadow of a hot crossdressing lady.)

The Night Angel: Bedrooms only, in the dark: the soft scent of Shalimar as someone pulls up your covers and tucks you in. Perhaps the touch of a kiss on your forehead or cheek.

Cigarette smoke: Anywhere in the house (aside from the no haunting zones, of course). Just the scent, not the actual smoke, and it smells like a single lit cigarette, not the ashtray scent of a room where someone has smoked. Since it's psychic, it won't set off allergies, and it's not constant, except in the 2nd Floor Parlor. (Somebody left one burning and set Billy the Bookcase on fire. The results were not pretty.)

Aren't the dorms lovely this time of year? We hope your students and grads have been enjoying their comfort this week, because come the crack of 12:01 a.m. Fandom time on Friday morning, everyone in the dorms will be greeted by an invasion of mutated, Manilow-resistent stolp bugs, serenading them with the only appropriate song for the day. Over. And over. And over. Na, na, na, na everyday. It's like your iPod's stuck on Replay.

Tonight is the deadline to sign your students and hanging-around-grads up for summer camp housing!

If your grad is leaving, or your student won't be around for the second summer term, please remember to let us know over in the summer plans post if you haven't already.

ETA: A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend: if you don't sign your character up on time, you're getting a non-haunted room!

Student feedback on the bouncy castles was... less than glowing, so the school board had planned to let students remain in the dorms this summer while they decided whether to rebuild permanent cabins or come up with another idea. Will the island be kind enough to let that happen? LOLOLOLOL school board, so adorably naive.

Due to a yet-to-be-revealed issue with the dorm building, all students will be moving for three weeks to an emergency shelter on the shore of Ingvar Islet, kindly provided by his daddy by way of the good folks at IKEA. Everyone has a home, but if you don't have a home, you really can find one there! Fear not; we don't mean that it's held together with coconuts, palm leaves, and spit. In fact, it's a rather large, impressive house with plenty of room -- two-to-a-bedroom, just like the dorms -- for students and grads to sleep, study, and hang out in peace.

Did we say peace? We meant "pieces." As in the house is constructed from pieces of every bit of IKEA furniture that ever got returned due to the unfortunate demise of its owner during a horrible Allen Wrench accident, or never made it out of the showroom in the first place because of the Zombie Employee Apocalypse of Seventy-Six, or That Thing At The Warehouse We Don't Talk About Ever Especially When The Lawyers Are Around.

In other words, the building is haunted. (Mostly in a handwavy NPC manner by you, the players, but we don't rule out a few random-event incidents here and there!) We'll have more details of how and where (and what the place looks like) for you as we get closer to move-in time, but we wanted to let you know that much in advance so you can make informed OOC decisions during sign-ups!

What's Different? What's not? )

Regardless of what the photographs might seem to imply, you can assume that all castles have door-flaps and covers that can be engaged to keep out sun and/or rain (Mavis would be super happy and much less crispy if Carousel Camp-mates always remember to partake of that option), and provide privacy from everybody who's not inside with you. However, as mentioned previously, if the castle's rockin', eeeevrybody's going to be able to see it from outside. Then again, who says the inhabitants aren't just in there jumping up and down like the five year olds they probably wish they'd turned into this week?

As with the tents, each camper will be provided with one (1) battery-operated lamp, one (1) sleeping bag, and a tent-mat. (Air mattresses would seem a little superfluous in this case.) Each castle will be provided with one (1) sturdy Igloo cooler for all your food-preservation needs, but management would suggest you keep it outside your bouncy castle, if you don't want the contents to get shaken, not stirred, every time somebody starts bouncing.

Move-in date is Sunday, and this time you can assume your characters have probably guessed what awaits them (though honest to Ingvar, the administration tried to get something better).

Should there be any errors in character placement or lack thereof, lemme know and I'll fix that right up!

That's right: since there were so many complaints about having to rough it in tiny tents last summer, the School Board sprang for deluxe accommodations this time! Of course, when Lovey Howell ordered miniature personalized castles for everyone, she probably should've been a little more specific. She, um.... she meant well?

On the bright side, they're a good three times larger than last summer's tents, so there's plenty of room to bounce around in there without falling on top of each other. But what would be the fun in that?

Regardless of what the photographs might seem to imply, you can assume that all castles have door-flaps and covers that can be engaged to keep out sun and/or rain, and provide privacy from everybody who's not inside with you. However, as mentioned previously, if the castle's rockin', eeeevrybody's going to be able to see it from outside. Move-in date is Sunday, and you can assume your characters know that there's something out there (since they've already signed up with buddies) but neither the residents nor the school administration will know what awaits them at the campground until they visit it themselves.

Should there be any errors in character placement or lack thereof, lemme know and I'll fix that right up!

The deadline to sign up for a spot in the campground for the first summer session is 11:59 PM PST on Wednesday night.

So far there's 5 new grads and 10 students who haven't signed up, or indicated on the summer plans page that they're going to be somewhere else. So if that's you, please go one of those two places to let us know your plans for your student or new grad characters!

If you'd like your new grad character to move to town until they leave the island -- this would mean they're moving out of the dorms permanently as well as not camping -- that's fine. (And always has been; it's just that very few people ever want to leave the dorms before they have to.) Just let us know on the summer plans page.

Summertime: warm weather, re-runs, and Fosse getting his annual back-wax. How did we manage to last a whole nine months without it?

This summer session, though the School Board has yet to commit to building permanent cabins again, we solemnly swear we are up to no good there will be no tent-related puns made regarding your student and alumni camping domiciles, nor will your characters have to construct anything themselves. Everything will be taken care of for them. Trust us.

If that statement fills you with dire forebodings of what we are going to make your kids live in, we're doing it right. If you guessed that we're not telling you what that is yet (and your characters won't know until they walk into the campground), you've met us you're doing it right.

What we WILL tell you... )

Tino breaks out the banana hammock for the beach parties. Sorry.

But you all know what else it means, right? Camping in the Preserve, and this year, thanks to last summer's cabin-melty invasion of ancient alien space rocks from beyond the dawn of time, it's gonna be intense!

Go ahead; read it out loud. We'll give you a moment, and then another for the groan.

That's right: at the end of Summer Session 1, instead of the traditional cabin setup, students and recent grads will will be spending two weeks in luxurious 4-person TENTS! They'll also get the bonus handycrafting adventure of assembling their own lodgings.

As you all may recall from our last Open Forum, there was discussion about trying to make some changes to how the summer cabin situation works. Ask and ye shall receive! During the second summer session, students will be staying in the cabin for under two weeks (details are coming, we promise) in order to facilitate a different cabin scenario for future summers. Do you sense the foreshadowing? So here's the important stuff to know:

Students will move into the cabins on Sunday, July 24th, and will remain there for a LIMITED amount of time due to some BDE bits that we will be announcing shortly. Please note: Students will think they are staying in the cabin for the usual 3 weeks. The shortened time frame is for OOC knowledge only.

Graduating seniors who are sticking around this half of summer will have their own cabin separate from the rest of the student body since none of them have to wake up early for workshops. Unless they're TAing, and then they can deal.

Teachers and townies will continue to live in their own town residences, lucky people.

I post this breaking news now before I die from state testing. Have yourself some session one cabin assignments and updated map of the cabins, just in case you wondered which side of the boy band battle you were on. Good luck to the graduates who are either saying bye bye bye or feeling a little incomplete to be separated off from their friends over in the Battle of the Bands Cabin.

Now, if your character was left off or didn't end up paired with the person you requested, please let me know! The general info dump about the cabins is here in case anyone needs a refresher!

As a reminder, all students will be moving to the cabins on Monday, June 6th and will stay in the cabins until Sunday, June 26th when the dorms believe they're getting you all back for good. It's always a lie, man.

It's the most wonderful tiiiiiiime of the year! Or not, if you hate the great outdoors. Ahem. At the end of Summer Session I, students will be spending several weeks (3) living in cabins in the preserve and participating in group bonding via campfires, not having any personal space, and taking cold showers.

Students will move into the cabins on Monday, June 6th, and will remain there for nearly THREE WEEKS until Sunday, June 26th when everyone will gather up their stuff and return to the good old dorm rooms until second session cabin times resume.

Hey everyone! It's almost time for Summer Session 2 and thus, cabins! (Move-in: Sunday, July 5, Move-out: Sunday, July 26) For those who are new, or need a refresher on how the cabins work, you can read up on all the cabin info here.

Since we have new students and students who have left, we're going to be rearranging the cabins. As usual, you have the option of being randomly assigned to a cabin on your own, or you can sign up with a partner (someone you'd like to share a cabin with). Each cabin has 8 people in it, so once cabin sign-ups close, pairs will be allocated to a cabin and then anyone who's a single will be slotted in as well.

Using the OCD below, sign up in pairs with one person commenting to the main thread and the other person commenting collapsey-style beneath the first person to verify that they do want to be partnered up. For example, if Sam and Chuck want to live together for extra happy sexy time, Sam could comment first, and then Chuck would reply to Sam's comment saying that yes, they do want to live together.

Graduated seniors will have their own cabin again, so they need to pair up with other graduates. Other than that, you can partner up with whoever you want.

Cabin Sign-Up FAQ )

Please remember to let us know if your plans have changed and your character is going away for Session 2 so they will not be assigned to a cabin. Yes, there is special OCD for that.

Sign-ups will close midnight PST, Saturday June 27th (the midnight directly following 11:59pm Friday June 26th).

Current students: the deadline for signing up for a cabin partner or a new roommate ends Tuesday night!

Sorry newbies: you'll get your chance to choose a cabinmate during Session 2, but for now your fate belongs to the RNG!

Yes, I abuse the exclamation mark as I am SO EXCITED! (And I feel the need to point out that I am not abusing caffeine pills, Jessie Spano.)

It's summer workshop time again and that means the students of Fandom High will be spending a few weeks living in cabins in the preserve and participating in bonding, campfires, and wacky hijinks. No, not bondage, Sam, bonding.

Students will move into the cabins on the first day of Session 1 classes, Monday, May 11, and will remain there until Monday, May 25 when everyone will gather up their stuff and return to the good old dorm rooms until cabin time comes for Session 2.

Graduating seniors who are sticking around this summer (for part or all of the summer) will have their own cabin separate from the rest of the student body.

Teachers will continue to live in their own town residences, lucky people.

If you are missing from the list or accidentally didn't end up with the person you signed up with, let us know. We'll be moving into the cabins on Sunday (not Monday, as previously stated, so everyone's settled before classes).

Hey everyone! Next week is the start of our end-of-summer cabin time. (Move-in: Monday, August 4, Move-out: Sunday, August 24) For those who are new, or need a refresher on how the cabins work, you can read up on all the cabin info here.

For example, if John and Gavin want to live together for extra happy sexy time, John could comment first, and then Gavin would reply to John's comment saying that yes, they do want to live together.

Graduated seniors will have their own cabin again, so they need to pair up with other graduates. Other than that, you can partner up with whoever you want.

Cabin Sign-Up FAQ )

Sign-ups will close midnight PST, Thursday, July 31.

Hi guys!

Our time in the cabins is drawing to a close so we wanted to announce officially that students will be moving back to their dorms on the 1st of June (this Sunday).

You may assume that the date has been announced IC as well if you wish your characters to react.

Questions, comments, pie?

[Yes, it always said the first.  *cough*]

For a few weeks every summer, all students move out of the dorms and go to a set of cabins located in the Preserve for some bonding and fun times. Or something. We're not sure what the excuse really is besides 'wacky hijinks'.

Students will move into the cabins very early in the semester and will be there for a few weeks (actual move-in date and amount of time there to be determined) There may be another period of cabinosity at the end of Term 2.

Graduating seniors who are sticking around this summer (for part or all of the summer) will have their own cabin separate from the rest of the student body.

Teachers will continue to live in their in town residences.

For those of you who are new to the game, during last summer, and during the first term of this summer, the students spent some time living in cabins. As some of you might have noticed, the time for this term's move back to the cabins is fast approaching. Unfortunately, the current school administration is going to put a crimp in that plan.

Umbridge, the school's giggling evil overlord, is going to cancel the cabins the day before the students are scheduled to go back. What does this mean for you?

No one will ICly know that the students aren't moving until the announcement is made, so students should continue to behave as if they are going to the cabins. It can be assumed that the intended move to the cabins is common knowledge. (ETA: The move would be taking place this weekend.)

While some characters might be thrilled to have the cabins cancelled, we know that others won't be quite so pleased. Luckily, there will be opportunities for protests, involving singalongs at the main campfire, overnight sleep protests at the cabins, or other camp related protesty-type activities.

Please do not simply decide to have your character move to the cabins anyway. Umbridge will see to it that they are removed from the cabins back to the dorms.

If you want to use the cabins for a protesty type activity, there probably won't be any problem, but you need to let us know what you're planning and when, and also let us know if you want your character(s) to be caught.

Questions, comments, offers of pie can be left here or sent to administration@fandomhigh.net.

Greetings all various and sundry cabin dwellers!

Sorry about the delayed notice on this. We're at the three week point now and while we personally love the cabins, it's time to go back to the dorms for a bit. Students can begin moving back on MondayWe'll be back in the cabins during the second session. The move back to the dorms will be taking place tomorrow throughout the day. Feel free to move back into your rooms sometime tomorrow.

We'd also appreciate any feedback you have to give regarding the cabins. Are you happy with them? Wish we were there longer? Think we were there too long? Do you miss the Mighty, Mighty Stickbugs and want to see that cabin rise from the ashes and destroy all? Feel free to either let us know here in the comments or via e-mail to the admin address.

Thank you and remember, the platypus is totally a mythical creature.

As an FYI, there are no doors on the alcoves to the cabins, and the walls do not go all the way up to the ceiling. Therefore, unless you can create a magical sound barrier, everyone in your cabin can hear you if you're getting your groove thing on. If you do not want to deal with yelling, flying buckets of cold water, or other retaliatory measures, there are a number of places you can go to do your thing in private (provided someone hasn't already claimed the space at that time):

- The dorms
- The preserve (if you don't mind teal deer watching)
- The woods (if you don't mind bugs watching)
- The abandoned shack (created specifically for things that require privacy)
- Selkie Cove and the beach (mmm, sand in uncomfortable places)

Of course, you don't have to go outside your cabin, but again, you might be facing the wrath of your cabinmates if you don't. A little OOC communication about bedtime activities goes a long way. *g*

There has been some confusion with who has taken which alcove in each cabin and not wanting to step on toes and stress! Oh the stress. I went through all of the posts I could see since Friday and tried to figure out where everyone is. For your organisational pleasure, come claim a spot here!

Friday! Hooray for Friday!

There is now a check-in post for new students in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. New kids, go there, check in, argue over letting go of your weapons and whatnot.

Throughout the day everyone should move out to the cabins. Everyone will be sleeping there tonight. Feel free to start posting out there and no doubt someone will make this poor radio person cry by putting up a main campfire post.

The giant welcome picnic/meet your siblings/yay new people post will be up tomorrow. Townies and teachers welcome regardless of where the post ends up being set.

Questions, comments, caffeine: administration@fandomhigh.net.

Here we go again :D

Cabins

Hello!

These are the cabin assignments for Summer Semester (Term 1). We have kept together all of the pairs that signed up and the rest of you have been slotted into an open space. You may know some of your cabinmates, you may not. It's only for three weeks and cabins are a great opportunity to get to know characters that you might not necessarily interact with on a regular basis.

All of the listing behind the cut are in alphabetical order for each section (A or B) for each cabin. Sort out amongst yourselves which of the alcoves (1-4) you would like to take as your own.

Students will be moving to the cabins on Friday. New students will be able to store their stuff in their new rooms, then shuffle off to the cabins. Old students will mosey on over there during the day to set up.

Please note: the following cabin assignments are just that - cabin assignments. Room assignments for the dorms will be posted before Friday. Keep an eye out.

The cabins have been renamed this year. This year's theme: mythical creatures!

ETA: If there's anyone who will be away for the first term and hasn't informed anyone on the admin team of that, please do so immediately.

Son of ETA: There have been some slight changes. Make sure you check to see if you've been moved.
