Well, the antics of Team Ill-Fated Computer Repair sure have stirred up the hive - enough that they have made a crucial error and informed the island when the group is getting brought to the Junkyard and that, friends? That gives the island enough time to plan.

Friday
As was mentioned in the previous writeup, Friday is for planning and preparation.

Bad guys!
You're all going to be on high-alert right now. There is proof of a vast conspiracy on the island and it came scarily close to causing some real damage. Now is not the time to be subtle! Loom. Intimidate. Make it as hard as possible for these rebels to get anywhere. They must be stopped!

Rebels!
This is time for you to go for broke. The island has been sabotaged and Kitty has the only clue, an empty nesting doll. Your friends are getting dragged off to the Junkyard on Saturday, so that only gives you about twenty-four hours to plan a daring escape for them. While the Daring Escape itself will take place on Saturday in the Junkyard, that doesn't mean that we don't have time for a few crackpot ideas on Friday, too. Stockpile weapons, make grandiose plans, plot ambushes - however your character would get ready for a guerrilla battle is a-okay. Maybe you wanna do a bit of counter-espionage on the bad guys. Check in with people, make plans, have fun with this.

Folks who have been given items to find, Friday is the day to do it! Make posts, you can either find them by fiat, or involve other people. Bad guys, show up and heckle, try to figure out what they're doing.

A (bad guy free) post will go up Friday afternoon for everyone to bring what they've collected and try to figure out what next.

Saturday
At high noon, the doors of the Toybox will open and the members of Team Ill-Fated Computer Repair will begin their walk down to the Junkyard. That gives your characters plenty of time to set up and make preparations for the storming of the Bastille Junkyard. Bad guys, you get to join on the walk, and fight in the big brawl once it's joined!

Here, pretty much anything goes. You know all those cool plans you came up with on Friday? Put them into action today! Tear down Car Crusher and Junk Biter! Fight the oppressive police state! Rescue your friends and show the Toymaker that you're not puppets! Even if some of you are, literally, puppets!

You'll have to take down the Toymaker and maybe, if you're really, really lucky, you'll rescue more than you bargained for, too.

At the same time, the strike team will be down trying to fix the mechanism below. They already have their instructions, except for one last thing...

Because, you see, even when the Toymaker's control is broken, the island has gotten so turned around all summer that she's not going to know quite how to get home. So once the strike team finishes draining the Toymaker's power away, some of the equipment is going to punch up through to the surface - conveniently, right in the middle of the Junkyard, where everyone else is going to be fighting.

There, everybody needs to help calibrate the island by reaching out to the sensors and focusing on a memory they have of the island. A good memory, clear and pure, where they were happy. With everybody inputting their memories and good feelings (don't worry, you don't lose them!), the island will be able to break out of that AU pocketverse and finally find her way home.

Once Fandom breaks out of the pocketverse, indoctrinated characters can come back to their right minds and dropped characters will vanish from the island. You'll all arrive home, where Causeways and portals work again and the island will think really hard and really long before taking another vacation ever again.

Last week before the BDE and it's no surprise that it's a bye week for the island! And we're at a world with no shrimp!

Because you can't not have an AU without a world with no shrimp. But it's not limited to shrimp. There's no fish at all. Which means no sushi, since that went over so well with the island last time. No clams linguine, no oysters on the rocks, no calimari. There are no fish in tanks, in stores, or in the ocean. The oceans are empty and barren of non-plant marine life.

For one last time this summer, sorry Sidon.

It will probably come as a terrific shock to you, but there's a reason the island hasn't been able to make it home. You see, once upon a time, long, long ago, in a galaxy very much like this one, there was once an entity named...The Celestial Toymaker, aka "The Way Ingvar Gets All His Creepy, Evil Toys." Fandom Island has tangled with him before - back when he kidnapped people from the island and made them wander through his creepy living dungeon full rooms stolen from alternate realities.

Looks like he's still up to his old tricks. Only this time, rather than kidnapping people, he's kidnapped the whole damn island.

With all the rifts and substitutions going on, the island has to flee before she ends up pulled apart. And yet, no matter how hard she tries and how close she thinks she's getting, at the last minute Fandom just ends up somewhere else. At least this time when you wake up in the morning, there will be no question of what's weird. Because everything's gone all old timey video game graphics. That's right, based on this BDE, welcome to...Mario Island.

Basics )

Bowser and his kidnapping ways aren't going to make an appearance this time, but the island will be undergoing some daily changes to keep it new and fresh.

Daily Schedule )

Dates: Monday, July 29 - Sunday August 4.
Causeway: On! If you wanna go explore other Mario-inspired levels, please do!
AUs: Any kind of enemy. And while you can't be Toad or Yoshi or Princess Daisy, you can absolutely be a random member of the Toadstool kingdom or an egg-eating dinosaur or any other generic character "type."

The island is actively trying to get home now but to no avail. After a relatively peace, if low-key frustrating week, the island is going to once more try to get back home. But, well...have you ever wanted something so badly you broke reality? Because that's what's happening here. Rifts and realities and shards, oh my!

A weird mashup of the Bioshock Infinite and the Zinyak/Saints Row IV (still sans Keith David, sadly) BDEs is going to overtake the island. What does this mean in game terms? Residents of the island are going to have to be on the lookout for several things:

Info dump! )

Dates: July 21 - 27
Causeway: Off. But maybe you'll find a handy rift to take you where you want to go
AUs: Have at! The more the merrier, really.

Okay, after all that. We need a break. A serious break. And so it's time for another bye week! And, for the most part, it's a totally normal week! Everything is in full-color, nothing talks that shouldn't, there's absolutely nothing lurking in shadows or under beds or in sewers. It's a perfectly nice, normal week...

Oh, I mean, unless you wanted to have sex. Cause that's not really happening.

That's right, it's No Sex Redux. To copy/paste like I've never copy/pasted before!

To put it simply, starting next Monday morning (July 15th), Fandom is going to end up in an AU with no senx - or, at least, a no orgasm zone. What does this mean exactly? Characters who are affected will not be able to have any resolution/release/culmination/whatever word you want to use to their sexual acts, no matter what they try or who they try it with. Yes, this includes self-love, so don't think those of you without partners are getting off easy. (Pun fully intended.) There's three ways characters can be affected:

A) They can get aroused, but physically won't be able to get off.
B) They can be having sex, but get consistently interrupted. (Roof cave-ins! Bed breakage! Interrupting squirrels! You'll be modding your own interruptions.)
C) All of the above.

And, due to the magic of Fandom, even though this is an AU, it absolutely can affect ex-pats and folks off the island!

So, you know...have fun with this upcoming week. At least no one is trying to kill you?

...To bad you might end up really wishing they would.

Dates: July 15 - July 21

Causeway: On! You can go into a Baltimore where babies come from storks and under cabbage leaves! But no sex in this world!

AUs: None! Be you for the week! Frustrated, frustrated you!

Well, in case you were wondering "what could be worse than Muppet kidnappings?" I'm here with the answer for you! Because in the next episode of 'where in the multiverse is Fandom High Island' we end up revisiting this BDE...Silent Hill, West Virgina.

Now, lucky for us, the island isn't becoming Silent Hill. That would just be awful. Instead, the island is going to materialize in Toluca Lake, the Causeway stretching out to the abandoned town of Silent Hill. (The town of Shepherd's Glen, is accessible by boat if you should want to?) The island is staying separate from the towns for a very important reason:

Content Warning: this is a seriously effed-up and probably triggery canon, whose sordid history includes torture and child abuse, and whose monsters all escaped from the Uncanny Valley Zoo, most of them leaving their skins or other body parts behind. In short, it's creepy, disturbing, and gross.

Which is why all of this is going outside of the cut. Days in Silent Hill are pretty normal. Sure, the town the Causeway leads to is still undergoing a 30+ year underground coal fire, and smoke lies heavy over the sky, and ash floats down pretty regularly, but apart from the general creepiness that comes with visiting abandoned towns, they are otherwise fine. Folks with psychic powers/Jedi senses/prone to bad feelings may feel uncomfortable there during daylight hours, but there will be nothing there to back those feelings up - you know, other than the abandonment, decay, and fire damage.

Nothing triggery will happen during daylight hours. Therefore, people who don't want to deal with that stuff can go about in the daytime posts. School held during normal hours is unaffected, jobs during daylight hours are fine. You will not need to worry about running into anything disturbing so long as you interact with posts labeled Daytime. (And all posts should get a "Daytime" or "After Dark" tag in the subject so people can see at a glance if a post is safe.)

If necessary, any post that is specifically labeled "After Dark" should also contain a content warning that is not hidden behind a cut, just to keep people informed. "After Dark" posts can be trigger-free, especially if it's say, people who are sheltering in place and just want to talk.

Once again, "Daytime" posts are trigger-free, "After Dark" may be and will be warned for otherwise. Here is a link back to the "should be warned for" guidelines. Please be respectful of your fellow players.

Now we can cut for details. )

Dates: July 8th - July 14th
Causeway: On! For all your Silent Hill exploration needs.
AUs: None. Yes, technically the Silent Hill monsters fit the general idea of what can be AU'd, but they're all pretty sexualized and/or come from sexual trauma, so I'm going to arbitrarily say no one can turn into one of those.

I interrupt my own FH!wedding to bring you the (slightly belated, my bad) news of what's coming up next week!

The island might be a little better off this Sunday than the last, but she's still trying to get home. And, unfortunately, things still aren't working out quite right. However, unlike last week, if you do turn into something, it's gonna be a little more...muppety. With a tendency to sing. That's right, we are once again heading back to...THE LABYRINTH!

Bringing us back to this BDE, Fandom will once again end up taken over by the Labyrinth. Look, between the stairs and the different tiers, we're already halfway there, okay? There is no Jareth in the castle anymore. Maybe he's still winging his way through the mortal world as an owl. Maybe he's living in an apartment down the hall from Sarah. But the Goblin Kingdom still functions, even without a Goblin King. Hell, they've even found a more efficient way to get more goblins. Why settle for one bespoke goblin from a castoff sibling when you can claim a whole town?

And thus, the Labyrinth, slowly overtaking the whole town. All the better to kidnap you with, my dears.

Timeline of Events! )

Kidnapped and Missing People
The dreamers who were grabbed from the Masquerade, the people who went missing from the Labyrinth, and anyone who was successfully ambushed by goblins are all being held in oubliettes under the island. Some are held together (if you want to be trapped with other people), some are held by themselves (posts of solitary confinement), and some people might even be able to escape and get themselves free, escaping from the sewers entirely. From Friday on, people can escape from the oubliettes if they wish or other people can come down and rescue people. Though the sewers are a labyrinth of themselves, so even if you manage to find one oubliette of people (who have agreed to the rescued), there's no way to guarantee you can find others.

The dreamers are also in the oubliettes, only they cannot escape by themselves. While their bodies remain comatose above, their spirits/souls/psyches are trapped in more of the crystal spheres. Look, magic's gotta come from somewhere, right? And apparently without Jareth, it comes from souls trapped in the spheres. They can be freed, if someone breaks their sphere-prisons next to their physical bodies.

Fighting the Goblins )

Dates: July 1st - July 7th
Causeway: On! Though this reality's end of the Causeway just leads deeper into the Labyrinth
AUs: various muppet goblins, Fire gang members, guards, etc. No named goblins from the movie (no one can be Hoggle or Ludo or Sir Didymus, etc) but you can certainly be, say, Sir Didymus's cousin, Sir Cadmus if you want to ride around on a dog and be chivalrous or someone like the Wiseman and his Hat if you and a friend have a great schtick.

This does mean that you won't be able to play your AU'd character until Thursday (they will just be considered missing until then, having run off to the gate as soon as the change hit).

And now to finish out June (and our midsummer break), the island is once again having a bye week. Once again, the island will find itself outside of Baltimore, everyone's homes and businesses will be as structurally sound as normal, and there will be nothing and no one trying to kill the island's inhabitants. Well, nothing and no one unusual, I'm not responsible for anyone picking fights with the alot.

Is it home?

Well...not exactly. And people will be able to tell as soon as they wake up. This is a black and white world, with glorious sepia sunrises and sunsets. So bust out those tasteful black and white icons, they'll be getting quite the workout this weekend! (Of course regular colored icons are a-okay to use, but that doesn't change that the world and everyone in it looks like an extra from Pleasantville.)

But wait! What about Pride?!?

Look. It's Pride weekend. Do you really think the island is going to let it stay black and white for Pride?! No way. So, come Saturday, just before the parade gets started, a rainbow is going to arc across the sky and with it, color will come back to the island.

The effect will fade by sepia sunset on Sunday, but for the weekend, we get bright and vibrant colors.

Dates: June 24 - June 30

Causeway: On! You can go into B&W Baltimore or to your home dimensions. If you do go home, there will be a few minutes where you remain black and white, then color starts to fill in. The effect is reversed when you return home.

AUs: None! Be you for the week!

Wow, hmm, you know what? Maybe it's time for the island to go home. That sounds good right? Going home? Because whenever it tries to go anywhere, it ends up somewhere terrible. (I bet y'all miss the dinosaurs now, huh? Huh?) So on Monday, Fandom is gonna leave the ocean under Reykjavik and try to head home. Unfortunately, it's gonna be just a liiiiiittle sidetracked and end up in Massachusetts. That's not so bad, right? That's where I am! *waves to the island* Oh. Unfortunately it's also where Arkham is. Which means it's time to once more visit the BDE given to us by...LOVECRAFT.

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn! )

Island Timeline )

How The Infection Works )

Dates: June 17 - 23rd

Causeway: OFF (People who are not infected can still take portals, but Fandom is not letting this infection spread to the mainland. You know. More than it already has.)

Available AUs None! Well, turning into a monster is sort of an AU. So monsters?

Warning: Image Heavy Post

Just when you dried off and thought everything was safe, it's back into weirdness we go! We'll be leaving talking puppies and general normalcy (on a scale of Fandom, anyway) behind and going down, down, down into the deep blue sea. That's right y'all, this time Fandom isn't an island but an entire underwater city. Let's head down to where it's always 1959, the underwater capitalist dystopian city of...RAPTURE!

Taken from the same BDE as the Capital Wasteland, it follows the same general idea. Rather than people going to Rapture, Rapture is merging with Fandom Island for the week. This is the most intense week yet, because the danger isn't across the Causeway anymore. It's right there in the city with you.

The Canon )

(Plasmid use/addiction/side effects are free to play with as you wish. Or don't wish. However, please be courteous and slap warnings on your posts if they're going to deal with that kind of RP. While playing with powers from Plasmids is fine anywhere (you wanna go flying through the park, have fun!), posts about actually injecting Plasmids or dealing with the consequences go in personal journals only, please. Treat them like drug use and all that entails. Please remember we have guidelines for posts about sensitive topics, which this falls under.)

Dates: June 10 - June 16

State of the Causeway: On! Sorta. It's actually a bathysphere that leads up and out of Rapture and to the closest city: 1960s Reykjavik. So that's fun. Portals are also available, too.

Your View Into The City )

Available AUs: While you cannot AU a named character (no Andrew Ryans, no Fontaines, no Sophia Lambs), you're free to become any random character type you want. Be a splicer and spend the week attacking your friends! Be a Little Sister or a Big Daddy! Be a...okay, that's kind of the gamut of people you can be, but feel free to be any of those.

If you have further questions about the world or the canon, please check out the Bioshock Wiki and the Wikipedia article. Also, my Pinterest board and this great website are available for more atomospheric gifs and images if you want something to spark your interest. Spoilers pretty much everywhere.

(Yes, I know it's 'bye' but it's also PRIDE, so I stand by a quality pun.)

ANYWAY! After a week like the last one, it's about time for a nice little break, wouldn't you say? Next week, the island will be leaving god's gift to Geiger Counters and heading...home?

It'll certainly look like home, if perhaps a little more festive than usual. Everyone's house will be the way they left it. No rising waters, no desert wastelands, giant sauropods crashing through the forest. Everybody will be the person they were the day the island left.

Oh, and animals can talk. Not just Aeslin mice and drunken squirrels. All of them. And they all want to be helpful. You ever wanted to be a Disney princess, with birds running combs through your hair and rabbits washing dishes? Ever wanted to trade philosophies with the teal deer? Well this week...YOU CAN.

Of course, they're still animals, so like, good luck not getting crapped on by the birds and your dishes have fur over them now, but such is life on the island.

This is the first of four rest weeks, so again, if you have plots you wanna run with a minimum of outside interference, or NPCs to have visit or whatever, this is a really good time to do it! Otherwise, just enjoy the dulcet tones of crows heckling passersby or what have you.

There will also be fireworks each night of the week. There won't be a specific post for them (unless someone wants to make one!) but any night, people can look out the window just as it gets dark for an impressive show of fireworks in seven of the Pride flag colors.

Pride Firework Schedule )

Dates: June 3 - June 9

State of the Causeway: On! It brings you to a Baltimore and from Baltimore, the rest of modern day, 2019 America. The only difference between this world and our own is the talking animals, of course!

Err, meat is a little hard to find. For obvious reasons. Available! Just a little, err...scarce.

Available AUs: None. You are who you are. Own it. Love it.
geniuswithasmartphone: (Disguise: Revolutionary Soldier)

WARNING: IMAGE HEAVY POST

These last two weeks have been a fun, laid back ramp up. But now that we're generally all clear about how this works, it's time to take the training wheels off. You ready to go? Because next week, the island will be leaving all this wet behind and landing smack dab in the middle of the...CAPITAL WASTELAND!

Entirely Too Much Information Found Herein )

Dates: May 27 - June 2

State of the Causeway: On! It leads further into game canon territory. But if you feel like exploring places like Tenpenny Tower, Rivet City, or Andale, feel free to wander across and see what there is to see. (Links include spoilers, fyi.) You are not limited to these locations, feel free to explore other places from the game, so long as your post acknowledges this is off-island.

Available AUs: Again, a reminder. Your AU cannot be any specific, named character from the game. But any generic 'type' of character? Have at. Want to be a ghoul, a member of the Brotherhood, or a vault dweller? Sounds like fun! How about enemies, like feral ghouls or super mutants or raiders? Have at! Just remember, all violence is opt-in. Wanna mix and match - a super-mutant with all the memories of your previous life for example? Sounds like fun!

Just keep in mind that there's no turning into animal-based creatures. Hardison can't be a radscorpion, Karla can't be a mirelurk Queen. Please remain at least generally sentient. Centaurs are, technically, part-human but also still on the no list. The exceptions to this are feral ghouls and supermutants, but they are at least human-based.

I have a whole slew of pics on Hardison's account for further reference, but I can't seem to figure out how to link to them. May have to link elsewhere. Also, so for reference the Fallout Wiki and the Wikipedia article if you want to do further reading on your own. Spoilers can be expected at any link.

Based on this AU, it's another BDE that I wasn't here for so I don't know how it worked but will be liberally stealing from anyway!

On Monday, we're leaving dinosaurs behind and heading to the fun and exciting....WATERWORLD! Not only do you get to wake up twenty years younger again, you also get to wake up and discover that most of the island is underwater!

...Seriously, how does anyone on this island have insurance?

How This Works )

Dates: May 20 - May 26

State of the Causeway: On! (Which means that the Causeway is open to the wider world. Have fun, looking for any land! Also, specifically off-island, if you wanna have a sea battle or something, that's perfectly fine!)

Available AUs: People can start being minor AUs of themselves! You can wake up Monday thinking this is all Very Normal. Perhaps you go diving for Old Dry World Artifacts, the Dry World a myth your grandmother used to tell you about. Maybe you're a priest in a religion that worships Dread Cthulhu and the Deep Ones. Maybe you've just got that Innsmouth Look. Maybe you live on a floating barge and have turned to piracy yourself! You're still you, just adapted for this world!

Based on this AU (in a kind of "inspired by the events" kind of way), and this trip!

Late Sunday, after everybody goes to sleep, the island will be heading to its very first AU destination...and that AU is DINOSAURS! When everyone wakes up, much of Fandom Island will be covered by lush, prehistoric jungle full of old growth trees, ferns the size of your average alot (and they are NOT FOR EATING, SHANNON), balmy temperatures and humidity...

And dinosaurs, of course.

How This Works )

Dates: May 13 - May 19 (So, yes, it does overlap with 20 Year Reunion. Everyone's all now so old they're literally hanging out with dinosaurs.)

State of the Causeway: On! (Which means that the Causeway is open to the wider world. Have fun exploring completely scientifically inaccurate Pangaea if you want to!)

Available AUs: None! It's the first week of the trip and 20 Year Reunion beside. So instead, sit back and enjoy the weird. Pet a dinosaur. Fight a dinosaur. Explain to a 'dinosaur' that it's actually a pterosaur and somehow that's ~*different*~. See how far that gets you. Check to see if that's a maaaaagical liopleurodon, Charlie. But whatever you do, do it as yourself!

...Your pets, however, can be AU'd into tiny murder-lizards. Because who doesn't want a cat-sized triceratops lumbering after them?

It's been an exciting few weeks, right? There were finals, a BDE, new students...It's been a time of change and upheaval. And do you know who's been realizing they're kinda stuck in a rut?

The island, that's who.

Fandom is a mother, a home for adults and students all over the multiverse, a thriving ecosystem for a number of species not found anywhere else. That's a lot of pressure and has the island really been taking time just to breathe? To relax? Just to be? No. No it hasn't. And you know what? That should change. This summer the residents are gonna see...How Fandom Got Its Groove Back.

Rather than going around the world (done that) or even through space (done that, too), this summer, from Monday, May 13th through Sunday, August 25th, Fandom's gonna go on a journey of self-exploration through reality itself, visiting various different realities and AUs, trying to catch that certain spark that's been missing.

Coming at you live from MURRICA, it's your summer plans post!!

In order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week), or if you would like to have your newly-minted grad run a workshop of their own.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • You can leave at the end the first term if you'd like (the beginning of July), or go home for the first term and come back for the second.

  • The IC deadline for those who are planning to leave the island (graduates who aren't sticking around, students who are going away for the summer, and students who are leaving the game or becoming expats) is Friday, May 11th.

  • Your graduate can ICly plan to stick around, but be whisked home partway through the term unexpectedly. This means their only option for summer employment will be a job in town- they cannot run a workshop or TA for one if they're leaving before it's completed.

All graduates will need to leave the island by the end of the second term (the end of August).

If you've got some summer plans that we need to know, please fill out the following information to let us know what you're planning (replies will be screened):

If you've already sent us an email with your plans, you don't need to fill in this form... unless you like filling in forms. We don't judge.

(ETA: Yes, I know the textbox said "May 2nd" at first... copypasta fail.)

*switches to Clint for a little variety*

Hey folks! First things first, we're still looking for a few people to be big siblings or teaching buddies, so if you're interested, make sure you throw your name in over here by tomorrow night!

Second things second, in order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Thanks to the census, we know who's leaving and staying in general, but now we need the finer details. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), or have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week). For the second summer term, you can also have your newly-minted grad run a workshop of their own.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • You can leave at the end the first term if you'd like (the beginning of July), or go home for the first term and come back for the second.

  • The IC deadline for those who are planning to leave the island (graduates who aren't sticking around, students who are going away for the summer, and students who are leaving the game or becoming expats) is Friday, May 5th.

*sob*

If you've got some summer plans that we need to know, please fill out the following information to let us know what you're planning (replies will be screened):

Thanks!

  • You can leave at the end the first term if you'd like (the beginning of July), or go home for the first term and come back for the second.

  • The IC deadline for those who are planning to leave the island (graduates who aren't sticking around, students who are going away for the summer, and students who are leaving the game or becoming expats) is Friday, May 6th.

Thanks!

Rather than flooding the flist with multiple posts, I decided to make one GIGANTIC FLIST EATING POST OM NOM NOM.

(This post brought to you by Krispy Kreme, the best gift the PTA ever gives.)

Point the first: Graduation is next weekend (*cries* *clings to the seniors*) so here's all the info for that. )

Point the second: In order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week), or if you would like to have your newly-minted grad run a workshop of their own.

More info for grads under here! )

Point the third: Send us your applications! Yes, this was already remindered but I'm saying it again SO THERE.

Whew, I think that's everything. If you have any questions, leave them below and they'll be unscreened.

Tonight is the deadline to sign your students and hanging-around-grads up for summer camp housing!

If your grad is leaving, or your student won't be around for the second summer term, please remember to let us know over in the summer plans post if you haven't already.

ETA: A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend: if you don't sign your character up on time, you're getting a non-haunted room!

Your Summer 2 Camping Assignments and Campground Map. (Those names at the top of each group are also links to a picture of the bounce house.)

Regardless of what the photographs might seem to imply, you can assume that all castles have door-flaps and covers that can be engaged to keep out sun and/or rain (Mavis would be super happy and much less crispy if Carousel Camp-mates always remember to partake of that option), and provide privacy from everybody who's not inside with you. However, as mentioned previously, if the castle's rockin', eeeevrybody's going to be able to see it from outside. Then again, who says the inhabitants aren't just in there jumping up and down like the five year olds they probably wish they'd turned into this week?

As with the tents, each camper will be provided with one (1) battery-operated lamp, one (1) sleeping bag, and a tent-mat. (Air mattresses would seem a little superfluous in this case.) Each castle will be provided with one (1) sturdy Igloo cooler for all your food-preservation needs, but management would suggest you keep it outside your bouncy castle, if you don't want the contents to get shaken, not stirred, every time somebody starts bouncing.

Move-in date is Sunday, and this time you can assume your characters have probably guessed what awaits them (though honest to Ingvar, the administration tried to get something better).

Should there be any errors in character placement or lack thereof, lemme know and I'll fix that right up!

Have no fear, the School Board has been informed that they needed to get those bouncy castles out of the campgrounds, because seriously, WTF.

If you think that means they'll be replaced by different bouncy castles, you're one step ahead of your beloved IC administration.

The Setup )

Sign-Ups! )

Sign-ups will close at 11:59 pm Pacific time on Friday, August 9. Everyone planning to live in the campground, please remember to sign up before then, so we can start chortling at the RNG at 12:01!

That's right: since there were so many complaints about having to rough it in tiny tents last summer, the School Board sprang for deluxe accommodations this time! Of course, when Lovey Howell ordered miniature personalized castles for everyone, she probably should've been a little more specific. She, um.... she meant well?

On the bright side, they're a good three times larger than last summer's tents, so there's plenty of room to bounce around in there without falling on top of each other. But what would be the fun in that?

Regardless of what the photographs might seem to imply, you can assume that all castles have door-flaps and covers that can be engaged to keep out sun and/or rain, and provide privacy from everybody who's not inside with you. The deadline to sign up for a spot in the campground for the first summer session is 11:59 PM PST on Wednesday night.

So far there's 5 new grads and 10 students who haven't signed up, or indicated on the summer plans page that they're going to be somewhere else. So if that's you, please go one of those two places to let us know your plans for your student or new grad characters!

If you'd like your new grad character to move to town until they leave the island -- this would mean they're moving out of the dorms permanently as well as not camping -- that's fine. (And always has been; it's just that very few people ever want to leave the dorms before they have to.) Just let us know on the summer plans page.

I post this breaking news now before I die from state testing. Have yourself some session one cabin assignments and updated map of the cabins, just in case you wondered which side of the boy band battle you were on. Good luck to the graduates who are either saying bye bye bye or feeling a little incomplete to be separated off from their friends over in the Battle of the Bands Cabin.

Now, if your character was left off or didn't end up paired with the person you requested, please let me know! The general info dump about the cabins is here in case anyone needs a refresher!

As a reminder, all students will be moving to the cabins on Monday, June 6th and will stay in the cabins until Sunday, June 26th when the dorms believe they're getting you all back for good. It's always a lie, man.

It's time to start logistics for the second session (omg, time stop whizzing by)! We need to know what your plans are for your students and graduates for the back half of the summer. Graduates are still welcome to stay as long as they either TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for) or if they have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week).

Please also tell us if your students who were gone for the first half of the summer are making a triumphant return in July, or if you have people who are riding off into the sunset/heading home for this session to return in September/moving to alumni-land.

And if you want a new dorm room, comment here as well (there will be OCD, never you fear!) and a new dorm roommate may be taken from the new batch of characters or from other current characters who want a roommate. No requests for specific characters, please. Also be aware that commenting doesn't guarantee you'll get someone, but we'll see what we can do! Any other, more specific, more immediate room changes can still go through [livejournal.com profile] fh_office.

Please let us know by Sunday, June 19th.

Tired of ever-flowing mead and buxom Viking wenches? No? Too bad, for Fandom Island is, so it's time to start talking about where she'll be bopping around for the rest of the summer.

We've got a number of potential destinations in mind (and a few we're not listing here for plot and surprise value), but we'd like to get your opinion on which ideas you like best, and also hear any additional suggestions you might have.

Feel free to click as many of these options as you like, and the comments are open for additional ideas and discussion! At the end of this week, we'll take a look at which ideas seem the most popular and workable, then start firming up plans for further down the road.

[Poll #1740093]

A few limitations for any additional suggestions: the locations do need to be somewhere on Earth, with a nearby body of water in which Fandom (and her furniture-loving spouse, because she ain't going through that crap again) can settle down. They can be in the future or the past, and can even be fictional/legendary, as long as they're said to have existed on Earth.

We would like to stay away from very specific canon settings, though, so people can worry less about whether they're breaking the rules of someone's universe or about to rewrite history if they step on the wrong butterfly. So, for example, Atlantis = cool, Ariel's home of Atlantica = too canon-specific.

  • Teacher and student apps be clooooooosed, as are workshop applications from current teachers and townies! Thank you for your applications, and we'll be looking forward to an awesome new group of characters and classes as we review.

  • Graduation guest applications for seniors are due by this Wednesday, April 27th.

  • Summer Plans for all alumni and any students fleeing for any part of the summer are due by this Friday, April 29th. (Our apologies for the mis-typing on the last update list. Those fleeing will need to be off the island by May 6th, but we'll need to know the plans earlier so we can deal with roomies and such.)

  • Big Sib/Teaching Buddy sign ups AND sign-ups for New Roomies (for current students who want a random assignment) are due 5/3/11.

Hey everyone! It's almost time for Summer Session 2 and thus, cabins! (Move-in: Sunday, July 5, Move-out: Sunday, July 26) For those who are new, or need a refresher on how the cabins work, you can read up on all the cabin info here.

Since we have new students and students who have left, we're going to be rearranging the cabins. As usual, you have the option of being randomly assigned to a cabin on your own, or you can sign up with a partner (someone you'd like to share a cabin with). Each cabin has 8 people in it, so once cabin sign-ups close, pairs will be allocated to a cabin and then anyone who's a single will be slotted in as well.

Using the OCD below, sign up in pairs with one person commenting to the main thread and the other person commenting collapsey-style beneath the first person to verify that they do want to be partnered up. For example, if Sam and Chuck want to live together for extra happy sexy time, Sam could comment first, and then Chuck would reply to Sam's comment saying that yes, they do want to live together.

Graduated seniors will have their own cabin again, so they need to pair up with other graduates. Other than that, you can partner up with whoever you want.

Cabin Sign-Up FAQ )

Please remember to let us know if your plans have changed and your character is going away for Session 2 so they will not be assigned to a cabin. Yes, there is special OCD for that.

Sign-ups will close midnight PST, Saturday June 27th (the midnight directly following 11:59pm Friday June 26th).

For a few weeks every summer, all students move out of the dorms and go to a set of cabins located in the Preserve for some bonding and fun times. Or something. We're not sure what the excuse really is besides 'wacky hijinks'.

Students will move into the cabins very early in the semester and will be there for a few weeks (actual move-in date and amount of time there to be determined) There may be another period of cabinosity at the end of Term 2.

Graduating seniors who are sticking around this summer (for part or all of the summer) will have their own cabin separate from the rest of the student body.

Teachers will continue to live in their in town residences.

Summer Strcuture/Workshop Expectations

The semester is broken up into two terms. First term begins on May 12 and ends on June 29 with a week-long break (June 30 to July 6) before the next one starts. Second term begins on July 7 and ends on August 24 with another break week capping things off after that until Fall semester. Each term is roughly one half of a semester. See here for a more specific breakdown of dates for both terms.

Students can choose to stay for one or both terms. The only expectation is that, if you sign up for a term, you stay for its entirety, showing up to workshops just as you would for classes during the normal school year.

The minimum number of workshops allowed for sign-up per character is 2, maximum of 4.

For teachers, the expectation is similar to normal classes in that workshop posts should be up by 12:00PM PST on the day the class is scheduled. Other than that, the teachers should avoid hardcore academics or heavy workloads even more than they do during the regular school year. Summer is meant to be light and fun.

Seniors
Seniors are welcome to stay for the summer and they will be able to do one of two things: a summer work program or seniors can seek out teachers/townies who are summer instructors and become workshop assistants. Either way, they will all have a place in a senior cabin if they choose to stay on.

Seniors who aren't staying the summer will have three weeks after graduation to make their goodbyes and leave the island. They have to be off island by May 30.

Teachers
Teachers can teach summer workshops and further information on how to submit summer workshops is detailed in a separate post on [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc. Remember, if you choose to teach, you must stick with the workshop through the entire term.

If you're a teacher type and have decided against teaching a summer workshop, you have two options open to you.

The first option is maintaining some form of regular activity by acquiring a summer job in town or performing some sort of community service. Summer jobs are pretty self explanatory and I'm sure businesses will advertise should help be needed. Your teacher can also perform some sort of community service such as running a community club or working on a project to improve the community (this will be the same project that some graduates who are staying on will have). All community service work will need to be cleared prior to your teacher starting their project.

If you choose not to teach and choose not to do a regular activity in town, your teacher must leave the island for the summer on a vacation.

Townies

Like last summer, townies may apply to teach a workshop over the summer. The workshop may be run in one session, or in both sessions, and like the rest of the workshops, should be geared towards summer activities and interaction. Townies who teach will continue to live in town, and will be expected to maintain their jobs or shops in addition to running their workshops.

Hello!

Recently, the admin team has been discussing options for Summer Semester 2007. In the end, we decided that there will not be a Summer Semester this year. One week after graduation, the island will shut down for the summer and so will the game. All communities will be frozen until September when Fall Semester starts. We're hoping this break will allow everyone to recharge for a fresh start in September. Enjoy the break!

Hey guys, just a few things about summer camp that will hopefully make everything run smoothly. All students and workshop instructors should read this.

WORKSHOPS

1) Workshops must be posted in a timely fashion (ie: by noon PST on the day the workshop is offered). If you cannot post during the day, then post it the night before. Posting the workshop at night on the day it's offered is not acceptable as it means that no one can interact well in the workshop. Do it early or on time or not at all.

2) Workshops are for students only. Teachers/workshop instructors/townies are not permitted to take workshops.

3) As workshops are based heavily on interaction, do your best to get in on the day the workshop is run and get the most out of your interaction with others.

4) Workshops can be set anywhere you like (with one exception), just let the students know. There are some workshops held in the Danger Shop. Those and those alone are allowed in the Danger Shop.

5) Please don't gatecrash workshops for the first week. If you want to do so sparingly from the second week onwards, please get the permission of the workshop coordinator well in advance. Workshop coordinators reserve the right to say no to any interloper without explanation.

CAMP AREA

The cabin/camp area is located in the preserve behind the school.

It looks a lot like this.

Camp Area Layout )

1) Meals are held in the dining hall where there are tables and chairs.
2) The gym area is not as large as the one back at the school, but there are a few machines and weights and bags and some room for sparring.
3) There is an outdoor deck opening onto the gym area for those of you who want to watch people get hot and sweaty.
4) Outside each cabin is a small campfire. These are like outdoor common rooms.
5) There is a main campfire for big gatherings. Feel free to use that as well.
6) Feel free to make up sekrit spots for a little bit of privacy. There is an abandoned shack and a path to the edge of the island that is bound to have lots of little quiet nooks for you lovey-dovey types.
7) You ARE allowed to go back to the dorms at any time during the day and evening, but you will be normally expected to be back in the camp area by lights out sleep in your cabin on a regular basis. A once off romantic tryst is fine, but please don't abuse the system.
8) Teachers/workshop instructors don't stay overnight in the camp area unless they've volunteered for overnight duty, in which case they can stay in Flamingo for the night.

CABINS

The interior of each cabin looks like this:

Cabin Interior )

1) Each student gets their own little alcove. Each alcove is separated from the one next to it by a 3/4 wall (basically, a wall that goes almost to the ceiling, but not quite). Each alcove is also given some privacy by having their own curtain across the front that can be opened or closed. You've got a bed and a set of drawers. Anything beyond that is up to you, but keep in mind that it's not a large space.
2) The bathrooms are communal, complete with toilet, basin and shower.
3) There are doors at each end and in the middle. The door in the middle leads out to the cabin's small fireplace that you're free to use.
4) There is a small indoor common room to use as well. That's there if the weather is bad, or if you want to stay inside and chat while people are asleep.
5) All cabins have electricity and air conditioning. Aren't you all lucky? So if someone wants to bring a stereo or TV (if you can get decent reception), then it's usable.

LABELLING YOUR POSTS

Similar scenario to how you normally label your posts. I will use the Flamingo cabin as an example.

Your alcove: Flamingo A1
Your common room: Flamingo common room
Your campfire: Flamingo campfire

Then lock or leave open as appropriate. We ask that everyone respects everyone else and it'll work out fine. If someone has a locked alcove post, be somewhere else at that time. But at the same time, don't monopolize the cabin with locked posts all the time. There's plenty of room in the area where you can have private conversations, so feel free to use it.

The main campfire should be labelled 'Main Campfire.' Everything else is pretty self-explanatory by the names on the map.

OTHER STUFF

You're free to go back into town or the dorms during your free time, but we do ask that you at least try to use the camp area this week.

Recent graduates will be around all the time and you're expected to do what they say. There will usually be a teacher around as well during the night.

We'll let you know tomorrow when you can move in.

Summer at Fandom High

Final preparations are being made for summer and one of the things left on the agenda is housing. Now, we have repeatedly been referring to the summer semesters as 'Summer Camp' but there have been several ideas floating about and the administrators, through me, have finally decided to ask the players what they would prefer. This is an OOC poll, so please only vote once per player. Here are you options:

[Poll #720681]

If we go ahead with the cabins, we will try to take time zones into consideration. Especially for those of you not on North American time.

ETA: All current students will be allowed to keep their same dorm rooms next fall unless they request otherwise. They will be allowed to store any items that they didn't want to bring with them to the cabin in their rooms. Students would also be allowed to returns to their dorm rooms to collect items if they wanted to.

Hey folks,

We finally have some details for you about how summer semester will be run. Letting you know about it now, way, WAY in advance so you can make plans and whatnot.

Summer semester will be summer camp time. Details about Fandom Summer Camp are as follows.

The Basics
* Summer is long, so there will be two terms within the semester that are roughly equal in length.
* Summer semester is optional. You can choose to only attend term one, only attend term two or attend both. STUDENTS - if you do not attend one term, you must either put up an availability post stating that you'll be away or go off the island for the duration of that semester. Students cannot stay in Fandom and not attend summer camp.
* Summer camp will be based on school grounds and in the preserve behind campus.
* Rather than classes, workshops and activities will be run by both teachers and townies. The nature of these activities are pending (as we haven't asked what people are interested in taking yet), but they will definitely be more interaction based and possibly wacky rather than normal school-type classes.
* All participating students will be campers.
* All participating teachers will be camp counselor types.
* All participating townies will either be camp counselor types or will be involved somehow.

Dates
Summer Term 1
Week 1 - May 22-26
Week 2 - May 29-June 2
Week 3 - June 5-9
Week 4 - June 12-16
Week 5 - June 19-23
Week 6 - June 26-30
Week 7 - July 3-7

Summer Term 2
Week 1 - July 10-14
Week 2 - July 17-21
Week 3 - July 24-28
Week 4 - July 31-August 4
Week 5 - August 7-11
Week 6 - August 14-18
Week 7 - August 21-25

Then Fall semester will start on September 4.

New Students
There will be a new enrollment session some time in coming weeks. This will be open for students, teachers and townies, and current players will be allowed to apply with new characters. The characters that are accepted will be allowed to join in on the summer camp fun. New students will be required to participate in the whole semester (both terms). If there is a character you would like to play only for summer semester (with no intention of keeping them on when classes start again), talk to us. We are willing to discuss this on a case-by-case basis.

But It's OOC For Them To Stay...
If you need a reason for your character to be forced to stay behind, contact us here at the friendly FH Admin Stealth Ninja Squad and we'll be happy to work something out to assist you with torturing your character.

Sign Ups
There will be a post in coming weeks getting you to sign up for Term 1. There will then be a post for you to sign up for different activities/workshops for that term.

Going Home
If you wish for your character to go home/go off-island for summer semester (either term or both) and do other things, that's fine. Please keep in mind that you are expected to play the character you signed up with once you get back. If you intend on having them go home in an effort to incorporate new parts of your canon (ie: you broke away during Season 1 and you want to include stuff from Season 2), you will need to discuss that with us first. This is just to ensure that no one goes too far to the point where it will adversely affect other people in your fandom or to the point where you're playing a very different character to the one you signed up with. We're not going to be rabid about this. We just want to be fair to everyone.

More details will be forthcoming as soon as we work them out. Teachers and townies, please keep an eye out for a post in the next week detailing workshop/activity guidelines and asking for proposals from you guys. Again, this is a while off, but file the information away for later usage and start figuring out what you want to do over the summer. We'll try to be as accommodating as possible.
