Summer Semester Info Dump

Hey folks,

We finally have some details for you about how summer semester will be run. Letting you know about it now, way, WAY in advance so you can make plans and whatnot.


Summer semester will be summer camp time. Details about Fandom Summer Camp are as follows.

The Basics
* Summer is long, so there will be two terms within the semester that are roughly equal in length.
* Summer semester is optional. You can choose to only attend term one, only attend term two or attend both. STUDENTS - if you do not attend one term, you must either put up an availability post stating that you'll be away or go off the island for the duration of that semester. Students cannot stay in Fandom and not attend summer camp.
* Summer camp will be based on school grounds and in the preserve behind campus.
* Rather than classes, workshops and activities will be run by both teachers and townies. The nature of these activities are pending (as we haven't asked what people are interested in taking yet), but they will definitely be more interaction based and possibly wacky rather than normal school-type classes.
* All participating students will be campers.
* All participating teachers will be camp counselor types.
* All participating townies will either be camp counselor types or will be involved somehow.

Week 1 - May 22-26
Week 2 - May 29-June 2
Week 3 - June 5-9
Week 4 - June 12-16
Week 5 - June 19-23
Week 6 - June 26-30
Week 7 - July 3-7

Summer Term 2
Week 1 - July 10-14
Week 2 - July 17-21
Week 3 - July 24-28
Week 4 - July 31-August 4
Week 5 - August 7-11
Week 6 - August 14-18
Week 7 - August 21-25

Then Fall semester will start on September 4.

New Students
There will be a new enrollment session some time in coming weeks. This will be open for students, teachers and townies, and current players will be allowed to apply with new characters. The characters that are accepted will be allowed to join in on the summer camp fun. New students will be required to participate in the whole semester (both terms). If there is a character you would like to play only for summer semester (with no intention of keeping them on when classes start again), talk to us. We are willing to discuss this on a case-by-case basis.

But It's OOC For Them To Stay...
If you need a reason for your character to be forced to stay behind, contact us here at the friendly FH Admin Stealth Ninja Squad and we'll be happy to work something out to assist you with torturing your character.

Sign Ups
There will be a post in coming weeks getting you to sign up for Term 1. There will then be a post for you to sign up for different activities/workshops for that term.

Going Home
If you wish for your character to go home/go off-island for summer semester (either term or both) and do other things, that's fine. Please keep in mind that you are expected to play the character you signed up with once you get back. If you intend on having them go home in an effort to incorporate new parts of your canon (ie: you broke away during Season 1 and you want to include stuff from Season 2), you will need to discuss that with us first. This is just to ensure that no one goes too far to the point where it will adversely affect other people in your fandom or to the point where you're playing a very different character to the one you signed up with. We're not going to be rabid about this. We just want to be fair to everyone.



More details will be forthcoming as soon as we work them out. Teachers and townies, please keep an eye out for a post in the next week detailing workshop/activity guidelines and asking for proposals from you guys. Again, this is a while off, but file the information away for later usage and start figuring out what you want to do over the summer. We'll try to be as accommodating as possible.

Classes finish on April 28. The week after that (May 1-5) will be a week dedicated to exams. Graduation will be in there somewhere. May 8-19 will be a break rather like Spring Break. No classes, but you can wind things down, etc.

That's what we mean by saying that summer semester is optional. You can choose to stay for one term or the other or both. Fall semester (beginning in September) will be compulsory for anyone wishing to continue on. Summer you get to choose. But you cannot just come and go as you wish in the middle of a term. Pick one term, the other or both to stick around for.

Also keep in mind that anything you do off-island that will incorporate your canon/new info will have to be run past us.

John'll probably visit some people in other fanbased RPGs, but he'll be back. I just wanted to make sure I could use the same journal for those weeks somewheres else instead of making a new one (ZOMG too many passwords!) for a few weeks without problems. (and it's not like there's much in the Connor!Journal. Most of the posts are in communities)


And I'm not anticipating anything drastic, just a vacation, seeing old friends and such.

Anything you make up on your own (e.g. road trips, solo fics, joint fics with other current FH players) is fine. Anything that happens in other RPGs (including visits) will not be accepted as Fandom High RPG canon.

Okay, yeah. God that episode. I can't watch those episodes without freaking out. At least now I have plushies to cling to. God, the flailing. I think it took me an hour to get through it the first time I saw it, I kept having to pause it so I wouldn't miss something due to my flailing.

Last episode, yes. Watched it on CN too, and gaaahh. Even though I've seen it about fifty times, I freaked out and GAAHH THE SADNESS. Why is my fandom so depressing.

Hahaha, it's not a bad ending at all, I just would've been super sad if they stayed seperate forever (omghi future spoilers). I'm glad they made the movie, too; while it is a huge pile of WTFWTF, it's still an enjoyable watch. Wolf's Rain makes me think of Hamlet; EVERYBODY DIES :D!

... Chibi!OAV! I cannot WAIT for that. Am I the only one who is reminded of .hack//GIFT?

Oh, the movie makes me happy in undeniable ways. Being able to cross over Indiana Jones being one of them. I'm just saying that I'm one of the rare few who would have been content as well if the series had ended there, because it was a good ending. It was full of hope.

Dude, .hack//GIFT wasn't real. It was a crack-induced hallucination that the animators somehow managed to share with the rest of the world. o.O;;

Ah, true. The ending was good, I agree, but even then it would have bugged me forever of "BUT OMG WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!" (Hiiii, fanfic opportunities... which everyone gladly took before the movie was announced. And still do, needless.) Then again, I still wonder that now with the end of the movie ^^; He has no hat! He fears no snake!

But that's half of what made GIFT so great! Sora and Crim fight FTW, yo. Playing the scene where Balmung's beating the crap out of Crim frame-by-frame is epsecially hilarious, too (Crim with an afro and Balmung with a squid on his head... come on, you can't beat that).

But otherwise, yeah XD At least the FMA chibis will have the adorable factor. GIFT was just one big "what the hell".

There'll be two (non-consecutive) weeks during the second term when I'll be AFK. Yes, I'll be on vacation again. Will it be okay to sign her up but just send her home/have her sick in her room during those two particular weeks? I'd hate to have to miss all seven weeks.

If everything we do is in the evening, is that ok? my summer job has me slaving away in the airfiled from sunrise till about 5-6 in the evening when I get back. But definately interested in having some new characters/ have Orlin teach yoga or something.

There will still be room for people in different time zones to play, but if you intend to sign up as a camp counselor, you will be required to post your workshops/activities in a timely fashion and interact with your campers, so perhaps you should think about getting involved in some other way rather than as a counselor.

1. Does Victor have to sign up for one of the Summer sessions, or can he be at camp the whole time?

2. If you bring in a new, approved character, he/she/it will have to be in both summer sessions. Both summer sessions consist only of summer camp stuff, so they will have to participate in those activities/workshops. There will not be the option for that character to go off-island at all.
