...Did Somebody Say BDE?
It will probably come as a terrific shock to you, but there's a reason the island hasn't been able to make it home. You see, once upon a time, long, long ago, in a galaxy very much like this one, there was once an entity named...The Celestial Toymaker, aka "The Way Ingvar Gets All His Creepy, Evil Toys." Fandom Island has tangled with him before - back when he kidnapped people from the island and made them wander through his creepy living dungeon full rooms stolen from alternate realities.
Looks like he's still up to his old tricks. Only this time, rather than kidnapping people, he's kidnapped the whole damn island.
Welcome, dear friends, to Babes In Toyland.
The Setup:
Monday, August 12th, everyone is once again going to wake up to a new AU, a wonderful toyland. Everything is brightly-colored, made of plush and plastic. The whole island and everyone in it is some kind of toy - every person from Zoe all the way down to the faceless NPCs are now living toys and dolls and various game things. Kathy is a Weeble-Wobble because she never falls down. Dante is a video game sprite in the arcade. Verity is the doll in a music box, always dancing. People can choose whatever toy/doll/game/whatever that feels most evocative for their character. Beau might be a beautiful porcelain doll, fragile and lovely. Bobby might be a marionette, hampered and held by strings. We're all very good at coming up with things thattorture strike emotional chords with our characters.
The toys can, of course, walk and talk and do everything your characters can usually do. Think of the Island of Misfit Toys/Wreck-It Ralph/Toy Story for inspiration, only without all those pesky humans to hide from. Just because you belong in a music box or a video game doesn't mean you have to stay there - though posts where people are doing just that are welcome as well. Still, for the most part, everyone is going about their normal lives, doing their normal jobs, being their normal selves. And why wouldn't they?
When Monday starts, nobody remembers anything other than this bright and cheerful reality. (More on this in a bit.)
Shocking every person reading this, however, this world is only brightly-colored on the outside. Beneath the candy-like shell is a world that's not too far removed from 1984. The clone troopers are now little green army men and they regularly patrol the streets looking for such well-defined crimes as "public unrest" and "sedition." Neighbors spy on neighbors, students spy on teachers, every toy comes with strings whether you can see them or not. Everyone is happy and smiling because why wouldn't you be? Surely you don't have something to hide, do you? No reason to be unhappy? Happiness isn't mandatory, citizen, but it sure is a reason to get looked at a little more closely.
And no one wants that. People who get looked at too closely tend to get taken away to The Toybox, a maximum security prison where where old campground is on the map, deep in the Preserve. Sometimes these toys even come back, though they come back...different. Not broken, of course, because who wants a broken toy? Just...different.
And sometimes, though, sometimes there are just Bad Toys. And those toys don't get brought back. Instead, the benevolent Toymaker sentences them to the Junkyard (with permission from the very kind
futurespacemom, who has let me abuse Syndulla Scrap twice now). In the middle of the Junkyard rest two giant machines: the Car Crusher and the Junkyard Biter. The walk from the Toybox to the Junkyard is always televised, though the cameras mercifully cut out when the prisoner reaches the machines.
Aren't you glad you're a good toy?
Our Cast of Characters:
This is the world that everybody wakes up to on Monday. But, as mentioned above, it's going to take a little while for people to realize that this whole thing is wrong - not just immoral and dystopian but 'I am not actually supposed to be made of plastic and yarn.' The island - or, at least, those people on the island who come to this realization at all during the BDE - is going to come back to themselves in shifts. Some people will throw off the indoctrination on Monday, others on Tuesday, and the last on Wednesday. There's no way of telling who is aware and who is not; at least, not without some element of risk. Worse yet, that answer might change. So your roommate/lover/best friend might honestly be willing to report you on Monday afternoon for "Unhappy Behavior" but will show up on Tuesday absolutely horrified. Or they may never change at all.
You might be asking yourself who is left after Wednesday to still be worried about, aside from some clone troopers and the Toymaker himself. And that's where, well, you come in. Not only do you have the option of keeping your characters indoctrinated all week, you also have the opportunity to bring back dropped characters to play as townsfolk loyal to the Toymaker. (Ex-pats are also welcome to come play on the island, and can remain indoctrinated or not as you prefer. However, any dropped character brought back must remain loyal to the Toymaker through to the end of the BDE.)
Be careful who you trust. Because the enemy could be anybody. And everyone is always, always smiling.
There's No Place Like Home
The Toymaker has used his own reality-warping powers to make this all happen, overriding and locking down Fandom's own reality-jumping abilities. Thus, getting home requires unshackling the island and allowing it to jump again, as well as a very special way to navigate back to the right reality.
Mon: Starts off with a sunrise broadcast of someone getting walked to the Junkyard and a perky "Be on the lookout for sedition and traitors! Where there's one, there's always more!" First group of people throw off their indoctrination, spend the day finding out what's going on, trying not to get caught.
Tues & Wed:: Much the same, with the last group coming around on Wednesday. Lie low and be good. Go to classes! Go to work! Smile! Try to find people who realize this is wrong. Try not to arouse suspicion. Meet in small groups. Plot. Plan. Research. Is this a signal that this person okay to talk to? Or is it actually a trap?
At the same time, people who are still indoctrinated watch. Listen. Eavesdrop.
Thurs: By this point, it's time to start fixing things. The most obvious plan is to try to force a jump. Liam will suggest checking out the machinery under the island. A small group goes down to examine it and discover that a) it's busted (which is bad) and b) it's alarmed (and that's even worse). Right before they're captured, one (RNG'd) person finds a clue on how to fix this and escapes. This rest, unfortunately, are brought to The Toybox.
Fri: The Toymaker announces that the captured people will be taken to the Junkyard the following day. This is generally considered "bad" by most people, at least those who aren't indoctrinated by the Toymaker. Which means it's time to put all that Fandom creativity to the test. Ever take a class about improvising weapons from normal objects? Are you good at making traps? Ambushes? Explosives? Are you a natural tactician? This is your time to shine. This is your time to let those evil, twisty brains of yours run rampant.
At the same time, people will exploring the island, trying to find the rest of the items needed to free the island.
But, you know. Whether you're searching the island or brewing up bottled destruction, try to do it subtly. Because someone is always watching.
Sat: Finale. Friends are rescued, havoc is wreaked, the island is freed, and it's time to head home.
We'll talk more about the finale closer to the BDE. However, we will be looking for people to sign up for several teams: Team Ill-Fated Island Repair on Thursday and a strike team to once more go down into the depths of the island.
Some Questions I Just Realized Y'all Might Have!
*But what about school/classes?
Well, much of the week is about pretending that everything is normal and fine (or actually believing it IS normal and fine), so absolutely post class. This includes Wednesday Shenanigans!
Don't let a BDE get in the way of your education, Fandom!
*What about portals/the Causeway?
Those are all closed, my friends. The Toymaker is holding everyone captive and isn't going to chance a last minute rescue or escape!
*Okay, but how do I avoid this?
Not your cuppa? That's fine! While there is unfortunately no way to avoid the BDE on-island, portals and the Causeway will keep working until Sunday, August 11th. Whether you have a bad feeling about this, you've got a friend that suddenly needs visiting, or you're just not up for another week of Fandom shenanigans, you've got plenty of reasons why you can choose not to be on-island this week.
(Handwavily having your character leave is fine, no posts required of course.)
*But what about powers?
Much like in the original dungeon, while the island is under the Toymaker's control, powers are dampened and can be erratic. Look, there's a reason he's called the Celestial Toymaker, okay? I trust everyone to scale down their characters powers to levels that won't break the BDE, the only power that is particularly buggy is mind-reading, whether passive or active. You can still communicate mentally, of course, or attack someone's brain with your own, but the ability to actually read minds (and, more specifically, be able to tell who is indoctrinated or not) does not work.
Looks like he's still up to his old tricks. Only this time, rather than kidnapping people, he's kidnapped the whole damn island.

Re: I Have A Question!
In which case: Yes. The island will be jumping back to the right reality (Fandom Prime, if you will) Saturday evening.
(If you mean, "what about finals?" classes can and should continue as normal.)

You'll have access to your powers, though they may be slightly modified (see the post above). That being said, I will not stop anybody from deciding that their powers also suffer from being be-toyed (for however long) because that sounds HILARIOUS.
However, excessive power use is a good way to get people looking at you. Just be caaareful.

(I will probably not turn Kanan into a car, but you know what I mean.)
Re: I Have A Question!
If Hardison is here, he will entirely be a teddy bear because HAVE YOU SEEN HIM.
As I say down in the toy section, GO WEIRD, I BELIEVE IN YOU!
