It would make the cleanup a lot easier when next we do it, if we've already accounted for those townies that folks really are done with and just kind of forgot they still officially existed.

Reminder for All of Us: User-Info Requirements

Not everybody needs to be as dorkily OCD about prettifying their journal's user-info as *cough* some people are, but there's a basic list of things that all FH character journals need to have on the user-info page. This applies to our oldbie characters whose players may have forgotten to get around to that, as much as it does the new kids on the block. No, I don't apologize to those of you who just got earwormed with The Right Stuff. No, I don't apologize to those of you too young to get earwormed with The Right Stuff.

The two biggies that everyone should check to make sure you have are a link to your character's voicemail post, and a public e-mail address that's not the @livejournal address. If you want people to be able to check with you about apping into your canon, they have to be able to contact you! This may include future players who don't yet have an LJ so they can't just PM you, and the @ livejournal address only works while you have a paid account, so it's not a reliable permanent contact address.

The Heads-Up (Rrrrrrandom Event)

The weekend after next (Jan 28th/29th), Fandom will be up to its old gendershifting tricks. This time around it will be male to female only; the ladies will have their turn a little later on. (Players of characters who don't fit into a strict gender binary either physically or mentally are welcome to make their own call about whether/when/how the character will be affected.)

The Reminder (Open Forum)

The next Open Forum will be this Saturday, January 21st! As usual, a friends-locked post will go up in this community in the morning (Eastern time) and will be open to all current players who want to make suggestions and raise issues they think should be discussed by the player base. There will be OCD to make this easier, of course!

The open forums are a place for people to bounce ideas around and get some discussion going. All we ask is that you be polite and considerate to each other. After that we'll round up all the issues that have been raised and get to work addressing them!

Two comms that people may not be aware of because they don't get used nearly as much as originally intended are

fh_directory and

ft_directory. The FH Directory was used for brief entries, like a telephone book, for students and teachers. The FT Directory contained the same for townies, plus information about the island and descriptive entries about each business in town, listing owner, hours, services, etc.

The character entries in these comms have tended not to get used (or updated) because the information is available (and required) on each character's user info. Therefore we're going to discontinue using

fh_directory entirely, and limit

ft_directory to the island info and the Business Pages. Hopefully this will be more useful for everyone, and easier for us all to keep up to date.

The request: we need you to help us update that part!

Townies who are business owners: please check the business tag on

ft_directory for your business. If it's not there, please fill out the business form here, so we can get everything up to date.

If your business is listed, but needs updates, just leave a screened comment on its individual entry letting us know what changes need to be made, and we'll correct it.

People who work at NPC-owned businesses: likewise, please check the entry for your job and make sure you're listed correctly. Leave us a note there if you're not, and we'll fix it.

Everybody who lives in town: Please check the Town Listing page to see if your character is listed at the proper residence. If not, again, just leave a comment to that page, and we'll get that updated!

There were some really good questions asked in the island expansion info post, so we're going to put the answers here for all!

Hangin' in the Onsen

Bathing suits are a definite must in the Onsen, but it is a public place, and open to all, mixed sexes and mixed student/teachers.

The town looks like what?

As for the how the new section of town looks, it is modern as opposed to the medieval style of the original town. But there are still no cars allowed, and the streets are narrower than you'd expect in a completely modern town.

Also, down around the port of Fandom, there are some empty warehouses, but like the rest of the buildings, they're all locked up tight.

Where's that map again?

Some sharp-eyed people noticed a few errors in the map (thank you!), which have now been fixed. (It's over here if you want to have a look.)

Selkie Cove? What Selkie Cove?

Yup, there is now no longer a Selkie Cove, as it's pressed up against the new bit of the island. Instead, we have a Selkie Peak, which is Selkie Cove with a down hill slope to the new land.

(I know it's weird and wrong, but I so ship old island/new island. Hmm, if you stand on Selkie Peak, could you see their isle of view?)

So, as of tonight, the island has moved and is bigger.

And here's a map: New Island Map [ETA: twice updated as per comments]. All credit goes to

thankgoditsme for creating the original, which has been modified slightly. (Alas, I lack graphics skills.)

Of particular note are:

1) The Onsen
2) The spooky haunted manor house
3) The lighthouse

The wooded unexplored area is just that, and surrounds the Onsen and the manor house. There are cleared tracks leading to both of those.

The areas which are marked out and numbered are spaces where there will be NPC businesses, and some of the buildings are already there - in good condition, but you can't get into them. The boardwalk and all the marked roads are there.

NPC and (hopefully - remember, Townies applications are open all year around!) PC businesses will be opening over the next few weeks and we'll be posting information about those.

So I don't know how many people remember this post, but this is basically what we're doing. I put up a thread for a business, you go ahead and comment with what you've modded there/what you think it would have, and then I go ahead and write up a description to stick up on the Wiki, like so.

Be as descriptive as you like. All I ask is that you keep things reasonable, don't give Fast Eddie's stripper poles or anything. And while anyone can comment, if a business owner says "Um no we don't have that", that trumps. Also, if anyone wants to write up a full description, let me tell you how much I won't argue with you doing that. Just let me know in the comments, or drop it straight in there.

And yes, I'm totally using Jaina's account for this rather than D'Argo's because there's a LOT of OCD and I don't wanna get sick of icons.

As promised, there now is a list of established NPC businesses. These are all shops and bars that you can freely post to and have your character be at without having to wait for a player to put up a post. What we're trying to prevent is that random new stores keep popping up out of nowhere while there are perfectly good alternatives already in the game. Only NPC businesses listed on the map should be used in game. If you think we missed something or have a nifty idea for a new store that could add to town, feel free to email the administration. All ideas are welcome and will be considered seriously.

Please take a look at the list and you'll notice some changes. Our catholic church has now been reformed and is open to whatever christian branch you prefer. Got a different religion? I'm sure we can fit you in the church somewhere.

There's a new NPC store called Stuff for Sale. Sadly enough, the owner is a bit confused on how to keep the customers interested and he's found that changing his theme every month has proven effective. This month's theme is in light of St. Patricks and so he is selling anything that is even remotely related to Ireland.

We'd also like you to please take notice that something strange is going on at the Imperial Junke Yard. While you can still enter, there is an area sealed off by troopers. It's impossible to say what exactly is in there and no one will be able to find out unless the radiant Aeryn Sun takes you inside, but feel free to come up with your own wild theories.

As you have seen earlier today, our townie mod

headologist put up a spiffy updated version of the townie map to reflect

ft_directory. This map allows us to all have the same common ground to start from when we play the game. It shows you where you can go, what is where and it's just a great resource to start from. While the details are for the players to make up, the map is our foundation and allows us a nifty insight that will keep us from contradicting each other too much. So please, make good use of it.
