It's time to catch up with who has job openings and residence vacancies, where our new grown-ups have settled in or our old ones have shifted, and any changes to your business info you'd like to make!

If your character owns or manages a business, please check out the entry for that business to make sure it's accurate, and if it's not, leave a comment directly on that business entry with the updated information. If you have a business that's not listed at all and you need us to make a new entry for it, go here to fill out a New Business form for it.

If you play any adult character, please take a look through the OCD threads below, and if any of them apply to you, ping in as needed!

Bonus Reminder: For everybody, students, teachers and townies alike, please take a moment to check out the user-info pages for your characters (yourjournalname.livejournal.com/profile) and make sure that they contain the required info listed here so that your fellow players can contact you if needed. Especially an e-mail address -- one that's not just journalname at livejournal dot com, because those only work if you have a paid account.

[OOC on the OOC - OCD up; fire away. Punch and pie available near the bingo ball roller. Map updates and more complicated editing corrections will probably be delayed until I'm home and at my own computer.]

Reminder for All of Us: User-Info Requirements

Not everybody needs to be as dorkily OCD about prettifying their journal's user-info as *cough* some people are, but there's a basic list of things that all FH character journals need to have on the user-info page. This applies to our oldbie characters whose players may have forgotten to get around to that, as much as it does the new kids on the block. No, I don't apologize to those of you who just got earwormed with The Right Stuff. No, I don't apologize to those of you too young to get earwormed with The Right Stuff.

The two biggies that everyone should check to make sure you have are a link to your character's voicemail post, and a public e-mail address that's not the @livejournal address. If you want people to be able to check with you about apping into your canon, they have to be able to contact you! This may include future players who don't yet have an LJ so they can't just PM you, and the @ livejournal address only works while you have a paid account, so it's not a reliable permanent contact address.

Catch-Up: Adults, Where Do Y'all Live? Business Managers of all Ages, Where Do Y'all Work?

It's time to catch up on who has job openings and residence vacancies, where our new grown-ups have settled in or our old ones have shifted, and any changes to your business info you'd like to make.

If you own or manage a business, please check out the entry for that business to make sure it's accurate, and if it's not, leave a comment right on that page (not this page) with the updated information. A lot of those have grown way out of date due to changing hands or changing employees, and commenting right there will send us a link directly to the right entry without you having to manually link it up over here.

If you play any adult character, please take a look through the OCD threads below, and if any of them apply to you, ping in as needed!

To keep other players up to date with who your character is, where to contact them ICly, and how to contact you, the player, OOCly, we have The LJ User Info Page.

Currently, Fandom High characters are all required to list the following information in each character's user info:
ALL CHARACTERS
Character Name:
Fandom:
Email Address: (this is your OOC email address, not an IC one. Yes, you have to have one public so people can contact you quickly if needed. Please make sure it's one you check regularly)
Voicemail Link:
Living Arrangements: (dorm room number and roommate for students or name of off-campus residence and roommates/housemates for townies and teachers)

Optional: You may also want to include a short blurb about your character so others know who they're interacting with.

STUDENTS can also put up their list of classes, schedule, extra-curriculars, roommates, and any other information about the character at Fandom High.

Student Example.

FACULTY must also list what subjects they are teaching this semester, the day of their regular office hours, and provide links to course requirements and syllabus (if any). Links to most recent classes would be excellent too, but are not required.

Faculty Example.

TOWNIES must also state their job and place of employment. Business owners should list their business details, including the name of the business, what services the business offers, and opening hours or a link to the directory listing of their business.

Hi, folks. Since we're on the verge of having a bunch of new students, teachers, and players, this is the perfect time to remind people of some organizational matters that are very important.

One of the most important things you need to take care of - and it's simple, don't worry - is your userinfo. It must contain accurate information so that people have quick facts and contact info at the click of that little head thingy that's right next your username.

All player journals - both new and old - should make sure they have the following in their userinfo:

Character Name:
Fandom:
Email Address:
Voicemail Link:
Living Arrangements:
(dorm room number or name of off-campus residence and roommates/housemates)

It doesn't have to be in that format. You can work some of it into a paragraph if you want, but the relevant information should be able to be located easily.

If you'd like to include a short blurb about your character, hitting the major bullet points about who they are, that is often very useful. It also may be a good idea to include information about your availability if you have any peculiar availability issues.

Students can - but are not required to - put up a list of classes, your schedule, your extra-curriculars, your job, and any other information about your character at Fandom High.

Faculty must also list what subjects they are teaching this semester, list office hours and provide links to your course requirements and syllabi. You're also encouraged to keep links to recent classes either in your userinfo or an OCD info post that you keep a handy link to, such as this.

Townies must also state their job and place of employment. Business owners should list their business details, including the name of the business, what services the business offers and opening hours.

One final thing unrelated to user info that we just want to mention right now: We have in the past had players who used the same journals in multiple RPGs. That's fine by us, but since the Fandom High game doesn't acknowledge canon from other games, any posts for other games should be filtered so they aren't viewed from Fandom High journals.

That's all for now, but we'll be throwing more OOC posts at you before the beginning of the semester. You haven't heard the last from us yet. :)

Thank you for your time.

User Info Pages

Hey folks,

Now that everyone's settled in, there are just a few things that need attention.

Please make sure that you have all of the required information in your user info page. You can find the user info page guidelines in the game handbook here: http://www.fandomhigh.net/handbook/userinfo.shtml

WHAT YOU NEED:

* Your character's name
* Your character's fandom
* A link to a voicemail post
* A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS - this is very important. Please ensure that a valid email address is visible. A fake email address is not acceptable. There must be a way to contact you externally to IMs and LiveJournal. You may need to turn this option on in your user preferences.
* Your living arrangements (room number/apartment number/house). Adding in who your roommate is is generally very helpful too.

Those are the bare basics. You can find the rest of the information in the link given above. Please do up your user info page properly as soon as possible as it's the main way that people find out information about your character.

Thanks!

1) If you've requested an e-mail address and I haven't gotten back to you, poke me here.

2) The School Directory is woefully outdated. If you're not in there and you should be, let me know. If there's someone who's in there and they should not be, let me know.

3) I'm very disorganized right now, which is IC but not fun. If you've volunteered to do a section of the website, sound off here with which section that is and if I've given you the go-ahead to work on it. I know there's at least one area where I've had multiple requests and assigned no-one.

4) Despite my previous freak-out, it's perfectly acceptable to link to the website from your userinfo, since your userinfo makes it perfectly clear that you are a character in an RP. Liability in that scenario is minimal. Thanks to the few kind offers to move the site, but the flipside of the coin is that I have to maintain this account for work purposes.

63 players and faculty are about to lose posting access to the communities. See here for details and how to get re-instated.

Warnings were publicly given on several occasions and this is the last time that I will be putting something like this on [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc is where the administrative warnings and notices go and you should have it friended and be keeping up with the rules so that you do not end up with a suspended account.

People have been suspended for one or more of the following:

Student has no fandom listed.
Student has no genuine e-mail listed.
Faculty has no genuine e-mail listed.
Faculty has no syllabus/class schedule or link to same listed.

I realize that one or two of these people may in fact be out-of-town and will repair the omission as soon as they get back. There are several accounts that exist solely as message-boards and those are not required to have additional e-mail... but everyone else should have an e-mail listed somewhere on their info page.

If you have been removed, please rectify the omission and then comment here to be reinstated. It is as easy as that.

Believe me, this is far more work on my part than I'd wish on anyone, both in denying access and re-granting it. I'm not enjoying it at all, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Ed: Posting access is what's being removed, not membership. Even I'm not that much of a masochist to want to have to go back and re-ad every. single. person. a second time.

Administrative Notice

[identity profile] jerusalem-s.livejournal.com
Today is the day I said I would be suspending community memberships (or, actually, just posting access) for students and faculty/staff if you did not have contact information on your info page. Today is also rather past the deadline for the faculty forms and also for faculty to have updated their info pages to include class/syllabus information.

If you suddenly find yourself not a member, please make the adjustments as requested/required here and here and place a comment below and you will be re-added.

This will probably take me most of the day to sift through.

Also on today's agenda is to put out an application form for the Townies. It will follow the same lines as that for the faculty and you have until 10/16 to fill it out and mail it in. It is also required that you have a valid e-mail on your info page. It would be extremely helpful if you included information regarding your character/business, including hours of operation and/or rules of conduct, but not a requirement.

I realize that a number of the Townies are existing in a sort of limbo and, as there are no posting requirements at this time, that's fine. We do, however, need to know that you still exist and that is the function of this form. We're taking a survey so we know who is actually still present and interested in playing.

Everyone should have [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc friended and read it daily as it has been stated several times that this is the community wherein we make administrative announcements. I am not going to be particularly sympathetic if people send me e-mail complaining that they've lost access but don't know why.

Please keep up on the rules. Please read the administrative announcements. We're trying to make player interaction as easy and pleasurable as possible by encouraging communication and easy access to information. Your cooperation will, hopefully, make the game easier to follow and more fun all the way around.

List of Faculty/Staff Forms I have received. If you sent one and your name isn't on here, please let me know right away as I did not receive it. )

PLEASE NOTE! Some of these faculty members still have no visible e-mail. Although you may have included it on your form, it still needs to be on your info page.

Admin Notice

I hate making these, I really, really do. Mostly it's because 90% of you are good, strong players who are respectful of each other and obey the rules and are just here to have a good time. I am so very proud of how smoothly this game runs and how well such a large number of people are playing together. Partly, I hate doing this because it takes a lot of time away from my students and my classes and they deserve my attention, damn it.

However, it's coming time for me to put the hammer down on a number of issues.

Please note, it is non-compliance with these issues that is preventing Townies from being re-opened for application and continues to shove future student enrollment back.

1. All players, Faculty, Students and Townies must have their character's full name, fandom and valid e-mail listed on their info page. An AIM would also be appreciated, but is not required and you may not have an AIM name instead of a valid e-mail.

Please note, with [livejournal.com profile] flinkmeister's generous offer here, there is no reason not to have a listed e-mail.

2. I haven't received completed information forms from a number of the Faculty and there are still Faculty pages with no listed subject, syllabus, schedule, office hours, voice mail.... Please see [livejournal.com profile] abe_no_seimei, [livejournal.com profile] drgrissom and [livejournal.com profile] equalsmcsquared's info pages for various ways in which this information can be made available to your students. Faculty are also required to have an e-mail/voice-mail link set up and/or office hours.

After October 10, if you do not have accuracte contact information on your character info page, your access to the game communities will be suspended until you do. The same goes for faculty who do not have the basic outline of subject taught and a way for students to find schedule and syllabus information.

I did not want it to come to this and it actually creates more work for me in the short run, but I've tried asking politely, I've tried reminders and it comes down to the fact that apparently some of you can't take 'because it would be helpful to your fellow players, smooth things out for the admin and the game at large as well as a very considerate thing to do' as an answer and actually require some form of punishment before grudgingly granting cooperation.

This isn't any fun for me either, guys. I'd much prefer to be working with my students or thinking up amusing class projects. My idea of a good time is not to be sick in bed with my laptop and, instead of being able to play, having to hunt down the people who are holding the various enrollments and further evolution of the game back.

So please. Carry through with the requested information. It should take you five to ten minutes tops to alter your info page so that other players can find the information that they need.

Thank you.
