Workshop ideas are due Sunday, April 23rd!

So are student and teacher applications!

The WereWhatever BDE goes from next Wednesday, April 26th until next Friday, April 28th!

Graduation is on Saturday, April 29th! Like we've done for the last few years, if you want to bring in NPC relatives/friends/acquaintances/archnemeses to cheer for you, go right ahead! And I just put up the post for your post-graduation plans! (If you want to drop a non-graduating character, that goes here.)

In order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), or have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week). For the second summer term, you can also have your newly-minted grad run a workshop of their own.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • You can leave at the end the first term if you'd like (the beginning of July), or go home for the first term and come back for the second.

  • The IC deadline for those who are planning to leave the island (graduates who aren't sticking around, students who are going away for the summer, and students who are leaving the game or becoming expats) is Friday, May 5th.

  • Your graduate can ICly plan to stick around, but be whisked home partway through the term unexpectedly. This means their only option for summer employment will be a job in town- they cannot run a workshop or TA for one if they're leaving before it's completed.

If you've got some summer plans, even if you are not a graduating senior, that we need to know, please fill out the following information to let us know what you're planning (replies will be screened):

Graduation!

Hiya folks!

As a reminder, graduation for our seniors will be this Saturday, May 5th. (Wah!) This means NPC guests (and alumni/expatriates!) are welcome for the weekend! Again, we're not doing guest applications this year - you all know how many characters you can handle playing in a weekend.

Guest NPCs can have their own journals. Whether or not your character knows their guests are coming is totally up to you and your level of evilitude. NPC guests are only for seniors. Other students are more than welcome to attend the graduation ceremony in support of their friends, but they can't bring their own NPCs. All guests are welcome to visit campus but need to sleep in town. Guests can start arriving the morning of Friday, May 4th, and need to leave the island by Monday, May 7th.

As for valedictorians, if your character would like to be one, leave a comment below (it'll be screened for at least a small element of surprise on Saturday). Keep in mind that the valedictorian(s) will be expected to make a speech at graduation, and you get imaginary bonus points for making people cry. :D

Hey folks! First things first, we're still looking for a few people to be big siblings or teaching buddies, so if you're interested, make sure you throw your name in over here by tomorrow night!

Second things second, in order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Thanks to the census, we know who's leaving and staying in general, but now we need the finer details. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), or have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week). Your visitors for graduation need a place to stay while they're on the island. Here's how to request a room for this weekend.

Due to plague, this is pure copypasta. Please excuse any errors. )

Comment to this post using the form provided under the cut tag. It's one form per room, but you can sign up for multiple rooms in one comment. If there are multiple people who want the same suite, the RNG will decide. I recommend that if you pick a specialty suite, you list two or three back-up options in case the RNG does not rule in your favor (believe me, it's happened before). If you have an idea for a specialty suite, talk to me and it could be yours! Several of the available suites were suggestions from previous events. The deadline to be included in the RNG is Friday, April 24 at 9 AM EDT. If you miss the deadline, go ahead and comment to this post to reserve an ordinary room. Not an ordinary rook as I originally typed.

Guest NPCs can have their own journals, just like Parents Weekend, and they need to be signed up here. Whether or not your character knows their guests are coming is totally up to you and your level of evilitude, but we need to know by Wednesday, April 23rd. There's no limit on number of guests; we expect people will app what they think they can handle playing over the course of the weekend.

Please provide us with the following information for each NPC guest in the screened comment section below:

NPC guests are only for seniors. Other students are more than welcome to attend the graduation ceremony in support of their friends, but they can't bring their own NPCs.

Alumni and Expatriates
All alumni and expats are welcome to show up and don't need to be signed up here or specifically invited by a senior. All guests -- NPC and alum/expat -- are welcome to visit campus but need to sleep in town. The Arms Hotel will be open and usually has a post for requesting rooms up ahead of time. Guests can start arriving the evening of Thursday, April 24th, and need to leave the island by Monday, April 28th.

Valedictorian
Since it worked out quite well the last few years, we're sticking with the same method of choosing a valedictorian (and possibly a salutatorian as well): we're asking interested seniors to submit a brief in-character essay (up to 3 paragraphs) on why they should be considered for the job.

Keep in mind that the valedictorian will be expected to make a speech at graduation. All essays need to be submitted as a screened comment here, also due by Wednesday, April 23rd. If you have any questions, leave them here as well, and they'll be unscreened!

It's that time of year again for seniors to invite friends and family to witness their graduation from high school! For those guests who are going to stay at the hotel, here's how the process works.

Information Under The Cut )

Two new things this time around: First of all, the fifth floor now contains lounge space with complimentary coffee, tea and soda accessible only to hotel guests. The lobby is still open to anyone who doesn't piss off Mary. Second, anyone who requests standard rooms will not have to wait for the RNG to get their room number. I'll be updating the spreadsheet and sending out those room assignments as I process them.

Keep in mind that the valedictorian will be expected to make a speech at graduation. All essays need to be submitted as a screened comment here, also due by next Wednesday, April 25th. If you have any questions, leave them here as well, and they'll be unscreened!

  • Teacher and student apps be clooooooosed, as are workshop applications from current teachers and townies! Thank you for your applications, and we'll be looking forward to an awesome new group of characters and classes as we review.

  • Graduation guest applications for seniors are due by this Wednesday, April 27th.

  • Summer Plans for all alumni and any students fleeing for any part of the summer are due by this Friday, April 29th. (Our apologies for the mis-typing on the last update list. Those fleeing will need to be off the island by May 6th, but we'll need to know the plans earlier so we can deal with roomies and such.)

  • Big Sib/Teaching Buddy sign ups AND sign-ups for New Roomies (for current students who want a random assignment) are due 5/3/11.

  • So is cake, because that's my birthday.

Behold my ability to cut and paste!

Graduation is on the horizon -- woe -- so it's time to get some logistics taken care of!

NPC Guests
Guest NPCs can have their own journal, just like Parents Weekend, which needs to be signed up here. Whether your character knows their NPC guests are coming is, of course, totally up to you and your level of eviltude, but we need to know by Wednesday, April 27th. There's no limit on number of guests. We expect people will app what they think they can handle playing with over the course of the weekend.

Please provide us with the following information for each NPC guest; comments are screened. Cut for extremely stolen text-box )

Again, NPC guests are only for seniors. Other students are more than welcome to attend the graduation ceremony in support of their friends, but they can't bring their own NPCs.

Alumni and Expatriates
All alumni and expats are welcome to show up, and don't need to be signed up here or specifically invited by a senior. They also don't have to count this towards their monthly 5 days of island visitation. All guests -- NPC and alum/expat -- are welcome to visit campus but need to sleep in town. The Arms Hotel will be open and usually has a post for requesting rooms up ahead of time. Guests can start arriving the evening of Thursday, April 29th, and need to leave the island by Monday, May 2nd.

Dearest seniors,

The following is some important information pertaining to graduation!

Cut for minor graduation spoilers, for non-seniors who want to be surprised! )

And as a note to everyone, this year's graduation ceremony will be taking place at dusk for the benefit of several sunlight-challenged guests, although the actual posts will still go up in the EST morning for all-day-and-night playing.

Friends, Heroes, BDE-Survivors - lend us your ears! Graduation is coming, and while we love coming up with a new adventure for the grads and the school every year, we're also interested in what you the players would like to see happen for this big event.

Consider this post (and any email/plot forms you would choose to send us for consideration instead) your chance as a player to offer your opinions and suggestions for Fandom's annual senior send-off!

Hit us with your ideas; we promise we won't send the monkey-ponies after you!
[identity profile] flipped-god-off.livejournal.com
We just have a few announcements for you on this lovely, HOT Tuesday. And if it's not hot where you are, YOU BEST BE SENDING THE COOL AIR TO ME. Ahem.

Anyway, first of all, in the past, we've only let alumni attend graduation without needing to be invited. We're changing that up and also allowing all expatriate characters to attend graduation without an invitation from an graduating senior. So, make plans and come join us for this weekend's graduation!

And second of all, EMAIL IS BAAAAAAAAAAACK UP. So, if you sent a confirm email to us last night after 1030PM EST and haven't resent it, please do so now to the admin email. Thanks for your patience everyone!
[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com
Hey guys! OUR EMAIL IS STILL DOWN. *stomps around* Anyway, that's not what this post is for. I just wanted to stomp around. Today's the last day to submit your guests for graduation. So, if you've got a family, friend, guardian, random person off the street that's coming to see your graduation, make sure to submit it there by midnight PST tonight.

Alumni, no need to submit anything. You're all invited back.

As in years past, this year's graduating class will have a valedictorian (and possibly a salutatorian as well). However, we'd like to try something a bit different this spring, by asking interested seniors to submit a brief in-character essay (up to 3 paragraphs) on why they should be considered for the job, instead of a list of classes and clubs.

The method of choosing the top essay(s) is dependent on the amount of interest, but ideally we're hoping to recruit the teaching staff to vote on it, to give things a realistic flavor. Kind of like radio voting on a more specialized scale.

Keep in mind that the valedictorian will be expected to make a speech at graduation. All essays need to be submitted as a screened comment here by next Sunday, April 26th, so that there'll be plenty of time for figuring things out before graduation. If you have any questions, leave them here as well, and they'll be unscreened!

Graduation Guests

Hi guys, sorry about not putting this up sooner. All graduation guests that were submitted are good to come to Fandom tomorrow morning. Look forward to seeing them!
[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com
Well, Graduation is almost upon us. With graduation comes graduation-type events (yes, that is a technical term). What follows is a guide to the weekend.

THURSDAY
We will be having a faculty party on Thursday, mainly to get it in before the friends and family show up. Teachers only, please. We'll be celebrating another year in the books and bid farewell to those who will be leaving us shortly. We'll be heading back to the cruise ship in the Danger Shop from last year unless anyone can convince me to go with something else. There may be a dartboard with Jamie Madrox's face on it. This is, after all, a celebration for the teachers.

FRIDAY
GRADUATION GUESTS ARRIVE. HUZZAH! Also, Spider-Man 3 opens. SEE IT, PEOPLE. What? This is my post, I'll pimp what I want to.
Also, the lovely people from Seahorse cabin last summer will be hosting a party. All are welcome!

SATURDAY
Graduation itself. We're looking towards a fun ceremony this year with music, speakers, and maybe a couple of surprises. Part I of the ceremony will be posted late Friday night US time so people have plenty of time to ping in.

SUNDAY
This weekend's brunch will be one of those special In The Park numbers, where our new graduates and their guests are our guests of honor. Everyone else can show up, but who cares about them? They don't have diplomas.

MONDAY
The guests of our graduates must leave during the day. Once they're all gone, there shall be a party for the seniors. Your families are gone! High school is over! YOU SURVIVED IN SO MANY WAYS!

So, pretty simple schedule, but it keeps you informed.

That's not it for announcements tonight, though. We'll have another post up soon that people should be excited about. No more about that now, though!

Hello seniors!

Graduation is coming up quickly, so it's time to get on the ball and get things organized. Here's an information dump post with everything you need to know about graduation and everything we need to know from you.

Pre-Graduation Events
There will be a pre-graduation hoorah party on Friday, May 4.
There will be a post-graduation brunch on Sunday, May 6.

There will possibly also be a few smaller events the week before graduation. Details pending.

Graduation Ceremony

When: Saturday, May 5, 2007
Where: Fandom High
What: A ceremony with a musical performance and guest speakers. Seniors will receive their senior diploma. (And come on, it's Fandom High, you know something big is going to happen)
Who: Seniors, guests/guardians of seniors (max 3) and current alumni.

Invited Guests

Graduating seniors can have up to 3 guests come to Fandom for the ceremony. If you really need more than 3 for some reason, contact us. There can be exceptions to the maximum for good reasons. They can arrive on Friday, May 4 and must leave by the morning of Monday, May 7.

All guests (including returning alumni) will be required to stay in town. The Arms Hotel will be available for rooms with a discounted weekend package deal. Guests will be allowed on campus for the weekend.

Invited guest NPCs can have their own journal (ala Parents Weekend), but all guests (whether your character knows about their appearance ICly or not) must be approved in advance.

Please provide us with the following information for each guest:
Name:
Relationship to Student:
Journal Name:
Who will be playing this character?: (outsiders welcome)

In order for your guest/s to attend, you must submit this information by Wednesday, May 2. No late submissions will be accepted. Email them to administration@fandomhigh.net

Again, this is only for seniors. Other classes are more than welcome to attend, but you can't bring your own guests.

Staying in Fandom Over Summer

We gathered tentative answers from you before, but now we need to know for sure if you intend on staying in Fandom for Summer Semester Term 1. You may leave for Term 1 and return for Term 2, but will have to be gone by the end of the Summer.

Graduating seniors who are remaining in Fandom must have a set activity that they will actively participate in. There will be the opportunity to participate a construction/manual labor effort or you may be a "TA" type workshop assistant for a teacher (you must arrange this yourself with a teacher, one workshop assistant per workshop) or you now have the option of leading a workshop yourself.

Please note, by submitting a proposal to lead a workshop you agree to stick around for the whole term, will be treated like a teacher, will be expected to act like a teacher and will be required to abide by the same rules as a teacher (exception being that you can still go into common room/campfire posts).

If you wish to lead a workshop, please submit your proposal here:
http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh_ooc/413066.html

Please don't send in proposals for any weapons/explosives/combat/survival type courses. We have plenty and won't be accepting any more. Feel free to contact one of the admins or mods to discuss possible options. Your submission for workshops must be in by Thursday, April 26. No late submissions will be accepted.

ETA: Post has been edited to fix up the form for invited guests and tell you where to send the info.

ETA 2: As with last year, all residents of Fandom are welcome to attend the ceremony. The only people that are considered 'invited guests' are people from off the island.

Hi folks!

The post for the graduation ceremony will be out tomorrow, but the actual event is not scheduled until Monday evening Fandom Standard Time. The post will be available for slow-play, as will the afterparty post which will be out on Monday morning.

Seniors!!

Please read this post ASAP!

You need to be logged in under your senior character's journal to see it. If you'd like another journal added to the filter, please let me know (either email or AIM) and I'll be glad to add it.

This had to come up sooner or later -- Graduation. How we're handling it, how it involves you, and why being a Senior is a really really good idea for some.

Graduation is basically going to run like this: Seniors have a great year ruling the school, Seniors get the cap and gown. Seniors leave. If the player continues to play, they can pick up a new Freshman at the next enrollment period.

I'll repeat: Graduating characters will move on from the game. There will be very few, if any, exceptions to this, and that will be by admin invite, with no application process.

"Oh, my gosh," you say, "I have no desire to play a Senior now!"

Why not? Seniors rule the school. If we have enough Seniors, we'll be running some special, Seniors-only game events to appreciate their Senior-ness. At graduation, only Seniors will be allowed to bring in family members from outside the game (a la Parents Weekend). In essence, it's good to be the King.

Why This Is Ultimately a Good Thing:

High school is about change. It's about growing up. It's about moving on from old things and onto new. Fandom High is no different. Having graduating Seniors opens up a bevy of great plots to play, not only for the Seniors, but for the other classes who will eventually have to say *sniff* goodbye. Furthermore, it keeps the game fresh. By occasionally changing up the cast (for reasons that are actually based in RP and not player availability), we're able to explore new avenues of what growing up is all about. Which is what's fun here: watching these hormonal, semi-crazed hooligans turn into hormonal, fully-crazed members of society.

I know a lot of you are attached to your characters. I'm very attached to mine. But I'm more interested in really pushing the enviroment to its full potential, and graduation is a part of that push.
