When it was first announced a little over a month ago, the FH Meta Wiki on Wikia had two articles. Thanks to some seriously kick-ass people hunting down old meta archives, cross-checking sources, and uploading like mad fiends, the wiki currently stands at 381 424.

Most of those articles are just the bare-bones essentials, but a growing number have details. The wiki's now full enough that I think we can officially call it open for business -- please head there for any and all meta needs you might have.

We still need your help!

Can You Identify Any Of These? )

Questions! )

Help is appreciated! Comments and questions can go here, too! Go go gadget meta!

FH Meta Wiki, on Wikia

Thanks to this thread in the open forums, a few people were chatting on IM about how to get a centralized database going, for the meta we use in-game for books, films, TV shows, et cetera. Which led to me wondering how hard it was to set up wikis on Wikia.

It turns out it's ridiculously easy. And so I give you: The FH Meta Wiki!

It is almost entirely blank. There are two pages -- one for Barry Plodder, with a sentence-long explanation, and an entirely blank one for Bitterwoman. There are two categories, Books and Television, each with one entry.

Much is needed (see above in re: two pages). Can you help? With meta information, clarifications, wiki coding, or something else? Got comments, questions, or Mexican fried ice cream? Wait for the OCD! OCD UP!

Hello!

So unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, you might know about a little book series called Harry Potter. The 7th and presumably final book is being released tomorrow and a lot of people who have followed the series are a little tetchy about being spoiled before they get the chance to read the book for themselves.

There will be a library post up for anyone who wants to plonk their kid in there to read a copy of Barry Plodder's final adventure. However, we ask that in that post and everywhere in the game, even in comments in your own character journal, you not make reference to the events that occur in Harry Potter 7 (or Barry Plodder 7) for at least a week. Please respect your fellow players and save yourself the trouble of engaging in mortal combat with a rabid Potter fan. They bite and we're not giving out free rabies shots.

Thanks!

So the problem with having a game full of characters from so many movies, TV shows, books and comics is that referencing movies, TV shows, books and comics can kind of be a problem. That is why we have meta.

As an FYI to the newbies and a reminder to the oldbies, those things should be changed in gameplay so that we don't step on each other. For instance, we have a Rory Gilmore in the game, so we can't reference Gilmore Girls or that'll be kind of a mess. So that becomes Geelmore Gals. Star Wars becomes Space Battles, Harry Potter becomes Barry Plodder, and so on and so forth.

Full lists of metaed movies, TV shows and books can be found on the FH Wiki. Feel free to add things you've metaed if you have an account, or let someone who does know so it can be added.

I is back from the great abroad!

Which means you get to tell me what you've got in meta'd tvshows, books, movies and comicbooks during the month I've been away, as well as meta'd characters and whatever else you've got.

*gives fakey boyfriend a significant look*

Unless you wanna go to FHwiki yourself, of course.

Thanks to the fantastically OCD [livejournal.com profile] courier_gavin, we have a pop culture list.

However, I realized that people often mention these shows in game and make up meta names for the various characters and we don't have a list of those. (And yes, I realized this because I want Marie to write Vanessa Saturn fanfic in the Writing Workshop and I can't remember the meta names for Logan or Duncan).

At any rate -- Lorelai's going to be teaching a class in the fall where I will actually need this information, so if you could reply here and let me know what meta things you've mentioned in game, it would be a huge help.

ETA: To clarify: I'd like the meta information for any fandoms that have been mentioned in game (I know Nadia watches AKA all the time, etc) so I can make a comprehensive list for my class stuff.

This is Jake, alllll the way from Australia, where I am bored as dad insisted on showing Krycek the very centre of Child of Krakatoa, and boring, much?

Yes, it's that time again. Summer is here and we need a summer tv-schedule! Therefor I need your help. Which tv-shows look promising? Which need meta-ing? (which is all, except reality shows)

Bitterwoman is of course in perpetual syndication!

Books, Comics, Magazines - last updated in January, so it should probably be updated as well. (I think Parker and Z is doing a write-up of romance novel lady)

Feel free to comment with anything vaguely popculture related!

Questions are also allowed.

Okay, working on the TV-Guide for February.

I have WizBits, Hadessong, Shprockets and CFD: Boston as new shows. Anything else y'all want?

Logan - you can use this post for the Daddy Oeuvre if you want.

Angela - was it you that came up with names for the people of Z-Cases?

Also, what new and shiny things have you all brought up IG that I don't know about?

*thinks*

Oh, and the main character of AKA is now Perth Tristow. Because I think it's funny. *cough*

That is all, I think.

This is just a big happy friendly reminder:

We are all fictional, and therefore none of us are. Please note that we now have several new fandoms represented, so please be aware that even such as Shakespeare's MacBeth are no longer allowable "fiction" references.

The best way around making an accidental snafu? We have a massive listing of ACTUALLY fictional shows and such, courtesy of Jake/Charlie/Wonka's awesome OCD.

So, please, step carefully with pop culture references and such. Your characters have never seen SG-1, read Hamlet, or perused an X-Men comic book.

Most likely, they saw Wormhole X-Treme, read Doctor Faustus, or perused The Adventures of Bluntman and Chronic.

See? It's fun and wacky. That is all.

Any I have forgotten?

A TV-Guide is coming up, but I'm not going to set times, but perhaps which shows will collide with each other?

(as Krycek so kindly pointed out, I am supremely dorky today. *bounces* I gots net again!)
[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com
Uh. Okay. So some of us are a little obsessed, and our characters watch TV together a lot, and when there isn't a movie on that *doesn't* cross fandoms, it's hard to find a TV show that isn't already represented here, so...

We were thinking of coming up with a community like fandom_TV, which would have fake programs on. Maybe some of the real ones (like Iron Chef) too, but a lot of fake ones, stolen frm other fandoms. Like Dixon Hill for STNG, and Eternal Champion from Forever KNight.

So. Here's a start. If you have suggestions... chime in.

* Eternal Champion 8-9 on Tuesdays, FOX

* Universal Warriors 7-8 on Fridays, SciFi

* Crime & Justice 9-10 on Mondays, NBC

* BUDDIES 8-8:30 on Thursdays, NBC

ETA: Should also add *WAY* up front, that this is not mod-approved and we're mostly just getting ideas here. Sounds like a lot of people would like to have fun with this, but it's so silly I almost don't want to make them have to think about it. So go ahead, suggest stuff, just be aware it may not go anywhere.

ETA2: Unless someone can think of a reason *not* to include them, let's assume that all reality-based TV -- cooking shows, COPS, talk shows, how-to shows, etc. -- are accessible on Fandom Cable. Likewise, any movie that doesn't cross a fandom line and that is being broadcast, is also visible.

I'll be making a list and a post for the shows suggested so far for "additional" TV later tonight.
