Hello, all! Please continue signing up for classes and radio (we could really use at least one more radio person, please, please, please) until Friday!

Which I am reliably told is not today, but other than that I've frankly got nothing.

The radio and you!

Okay. Radio. Please to be explaining?
Now that the new characters are arriving on the island, I just wanted to remind you all about how conversations and actions end up on the radio.

IG, the pirate knows all through *handwavey* technology of handwaveyness. And the occasionally shrub-shaped outfit. And the squirrels who seem to have a drinking problem and a fondness for being bribed.

God, I love this game.

Anyway, from a more practical angle, the radio has a group of researchers who go through and summarize every post and every thread that all of you make every single day. There are six of them and like, a bazillion of you, so they do a hell of a job. Yeah. Give them some serious love.

If you don't want something to be broadcast, please mark the post--if it's in a private room--with a NFB (not for broadcast) either in the headline, or at the bottom of the entry, and our researchers'll skip right past it. We'll also skip any post marked "private" or "OOC." You can also let us know that the people going in and out are mentionable, but not the contents of their conversations: we use this with the clinics and the town jail, just as a few examples. We've also been assuming that not even the pirate is foolhardy enough to have bugged the principal's office.

Because detentions are supposed to be private to those involved and not for the general entertainment of the student population, if it it's mentioned at all on the radio it's only in a "and there was detention" kind of way. We can neither confirm nor deny that students spent every weekend last year kicking Seely in the crotch :D

If your conversation is taking place in a public post (the park, the Perk, the gym, cafeteria, whatever) and you want the contents of it not to be for broadcast, mark the thread as such. Because it is in public, your characters will still be seen there but the *handwavey* technology of handwaveyness will have gone on the fritz,or the shrub will have gotten bored listening or whatever.

With the new influx of awesome and active characters, we are sorting through a good hundred plus threads of information every day--and those are on days when we're not having invasions or forming up mobs--so help us help you keep plotty things and secret relationships secret by marking your posts as NFB.

The pirate and his crew o' buccaneers thank ye!

And speaking of his crew, I'm spamming the flist putting up a sign-up in Barbossa's journal for any characters who would be interested in taking a turn at the microphone this semester or signing up to be a researcher. Mwahaha.

Questions, comments, rum?

Um, the plant, not the president.

Now that everyone's been playing for a month and is beginning to settle in, I just wanted to remind you all about how conversations and actions end up on the radio.

We'll also skip any post marked "private" or "OOC." Over the past six months "locked to" has evolved to mean "open to only certain characters' interactions" rather than "Barbossa can't hear this, nyah nyah nyah," so if you are using "locked to" to mean "not for the radio," please shift over to using NFB to avoid any mistakes on our part. You can also let us know that the people going in and out are mentionable, but not the contents of their conversations: we use this with the clinics and Blood Gulch Arms, just as a few examples. We've also been assuming that not even the pirate is foolhardy enough to have bugged the principal's office.

Because last semester's detentions were supposed to be private to those involved and not for the general entertainment of the student population, if it was mentioned at all it was only in a "and there was detention" kind of way. This semester has been the same, and will continue to be the same, except for the week when Barbossa had detention. Since he had seen it all and had the mike that night, he blabbed everything to everyone. Because he's like that.

If your conversation is taking place in a public post (the park, the Perk, the gym, cafeteria, whatever) and you want the contents of it not to be for broadcast, mark the thread as such. I understand everything in public is fair game in so far as it is seen to happen. But how do we denote that a conversation isn't heard.

For example, I need to do a scene on the beach. It's fine if it's reported she was there. It's fine if they say she was seen doing this or that. But if I were to say "The breaking of the waves was loud enough you couldn't hear what she was saying unless you were standing right next to her," keep the conversation itself from being reported?

Thanks in advance!

Ladies and gentlemen at the ball.

Could I reiterate the request that those of you interacting at the ball PLEASE link your interactions beneath your sign-in in the guestbook so as to make life easier for the gossip columnists and the pirate radio crew?

Overall, the ball posts have just topped 1800. Please, please, please... help us out. Link your threads beneath your sign-ins.

We'll all be very, very appreciative.

We know everyone is insanely excited about Parents' Weekend, and we are, too. We're just afraid we're going to miss something funny/dramatic/completely humiliating that happens to your character in the jumble of threads.

Thus, a plea. If you could possibly, possibly have an entry on your journal that serves as a thread drop for everything you're getting up to over the weekend, the Pirate and his crew would offer you all manner of cyber-cookies and rum.

Rory-mun has a terrific example of what we're talking about, but straight cut-and-paste of html coding works for us, too.

And especially this weekend, please be absolutely clear when something is Not For Broadcast (NFB). If you want something locked to only a few characters for conversation reasons but are okay with it being broadcast, please make that clear as well.

Help us help you. /Jerry Maguire.

Thanks!

In a continuing fight to make sure my friendslist is as up-to-date as possible (I can't report about what I don't see), I'm asking for a couple more sets of eyes over it. If you could look here and make sure that your characters are on there (I believe I caught all of the latest round of new townies, but I don't want to be leaving anyone behind), I'd be most appreciative.

As a reminder for newcomers, anything you don't want included in the radio broadcast must be marked as such--either as "private" "OOC" "locked to [so, so, so, and whoever, even if "whoever" is "everyone in the whole school but Barbossa"]" or "NFB (not for broadcast)." With more than 280 individual journals, as well as some insanely active communities, the recappers just can't spend the time we used to triple-checking to make sure that the status of the conversation hasn't changed since we pulled it--which we do towards the end of every night. If you don't want the thread to be included, please, please, please be marking it as such.

Similarly, if your room/house/office/whatever has magically Twinkie-induced force-fields or something that would make it impossible for us to hear what's going on, please note it in the post. The recappers are reporting on every single plot that shows up in a given day and occasionally forget canon-specific rules that would bar us from hearing your nefarious plotting/hot sex/screaming fight.

One final thing: if you want to put [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio on your friendslist, please be sure to friend it rather than attempt to join the community. If you attempt to join the community, I'll assume you want to join the staff and you'll be given the thrill of trying to make sense of the daily Study Hall entry.

If you do want to join our staff of insane buccaneers (and we're always looking for masochists OCD-types more help), drop me a line in this entry or in the Pirate's voicemail. We're looking for researchers who will agree to read a community or set of journals as well as recappers to actually do a nightly broadcast. And please don't think that your character has to speak pirate or be an Ash-like shock jock or snarky like Faith to speak once a week: if you're willing to do the work (and it's a lot of work--a couple hours a night of coding and making with the funny), we're more than happy to have you.

And thank you all, again and always, for being so much fun to report on.
