CLASS SIGN UPS FOR SPRING 2021

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2021 Classes! These sign-ups are for all students, and the two Community Center classes are for all characters!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you still need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion. They are also hilarious this time around. Bless you, teachers.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Friday, January 1st and are considered IG knowledge for your small-talking at the welcome picnic convenience.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Learn a whole bunch of shit about science without fucking around with boring lectures, pointless experiments or memorizing the fucking periodic table.

MON: Period 3: Aphra: Let's Get Creative!

Art is fun! And enriching! And having it on your transcript makes you look all cultured and stuff, plus you get easy credit for playing with paint and junk! It's a win-win situation!

MON: Period 4: Kyōraku: The Art of Japanese Culture through Untranslatable Words

All across this funny little planet, there are a variety of languages that encapsulate the culture from which they emerge, and Japanese is no exception to this ♥. Though I am not technically FROM Japan, I have come to discover that it shares many similar traits to my own culture, including its language, which possess some concepts and ideas that don't exactly translate comfortably into English. This class will explore some of those words that seem to have a unique place in these cultures, and will seek to broaden the students' horizons and appreciation for concepts and ideas that may work their way into their vocabulary yet ♥!

TUESDAY

TUE: Period 2: Pride-Barton: Adulting 101

The real world is a weird, confusing place. In this class you'll learn the skills to help you survive it, like how to rent an apartment, how to change a tire, etc. You know, all the boring but absolutely necessary stuff you need anyway so you might as well get credit for it.

TUE: Period 3: Atreides: Diplomacy, Relationships, and Tactics: The Art of War in Every Day Life

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting."

Using the classic text "The Art of War", we will focus on the different P'ien, and examine how they can relate to personal, professional, and tactical situations. No matter if the enemy is a business rival, a romantic conquest, or an invading army, the principles behind the analytical thinking of Sun Tsu remain the same, and can be applied to almost any situation.

TUE: Period 4: Smith: Have Portal, Will Travel

The multiverse is vast and varied, and here on Fandom Island, it's practically right there at your fingertips to explore! Of course, it's not that easy for everyone, but as one look around this place will tell you, there's a lot of unique and interesting places out there, and we should strive to experience and appreciate them! But sometimes it's not as easy as just making a booking with a few gnomes and heading out there. You've got to be prepared for anything to happen, because most of the time...it will!

So this class is designed to help make you a more skilled and multiversally experienced portal traveler, which involves a lot of fun trips to some fascinating places, as well as a few trips to a few more difficult ones, and providing you with the tools and knowledge to handle both with ease and flair!

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Constantine, Lecter, O'Hara & etc.: Career Development

Feeling aimless? Like you have no prospects after high school? Not sure what you want to do with your life? Here's your chance to have some of Fandom's finest (oddest) minds at your disposal, to talk about what it's like to run a con on the school board find a job you're passionate about.

WED: Period 2: Diaz: Cognitive Logic in Understanding Evidence (CLUE)

So let's say you all get invited to some fancy party at this mansion and then someone goes and gets murdered. Well, all of sudden, you're all going to be little junior detectives, exploring various scenes of potential crimes in an effort to search for CLUEs to uncover the murderer...hopefully before the murderer strikes again. Anyway, use logic and deductive reasoning and blah blah blah to learn real skills that'll help in ever day life as well as if you ever want to actually do something like this when you grow up for whatever reason.

WED: Period 3: Skywalker: Flight & Flying

Whether you're from this planet or a galaxy far, far away, almost every culture has been obsessed with flying like the birds. Come learn how to fly a variety of air and spacecraft from an expert, if he does say so himself.

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 2: Blackstone: Shop Class

It's Shop Class! Where you build things! What kind of things? Metal things, mechanical things, wooden things, clay things, electrical things...all kinds of things! A different thing each week, as a matter of fact! So come learn how to build things in shop class! That's pretty much what it's all about!

As unfair as it may seem, you can't always be in charge, nor can you rely on those who are in charge to make the correct decisions on their own. Bluntly: sometimes kings are idiots. Convincing them to do so is both an art form and a learned skill, which will be learned through interactive role-playing.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Scientia: Culinary Fundamentals

They say if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, and that if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. But, as I know from personal experience, there are a great deal more steps between catching a fish and turning it into something edible, much less palatable. Teach a man to fish, and he will have bountiful opportunities to eat, but teach a man to COOK...now we can talk about TRULY being fed!

In Culinary Fundamentals, students will learn, cultivate, and apply fundamental culinary techniques, such as knife handling skills and the recognition, selection and proper use of tools and equipment. An emphasis will be placed on mise en place, the management of time, ingredients and equipment. Students will apply standard recipe conversions using proper scaling and measurement techniques, and also have the opportunity to explore a more creative approach to recipe and menu planning. Throughout this course, basic food safety and sanitation techniques will also be emphasized.

FRI: Period 2: January: Intro to Performing Arts

Are you looking to pick up a few new performance-based skills just to pad out your resume and/or annoy your roommate? Maybe you're sure you have a hidden talent - you just haven't discovered it yet? Join us for sixteen weeks of learning basic dance moves, public speaking skills, perhaps a magic trick or two - all culminating in a not-mandatory-but-it's-your-final-so-y'know TALENT SHOW.

FRI: Period 3: Burnsides & Cara: Advanced Phys Ed: Xtreme Edition

Learn how to be both physically fit and survive dangerous traps! Possibly to some Tony Hawk 90s music! (No guarantee of Tony Hawk 90s music)

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASSES

These classes are offered for all characters--townies, teachers, and students--to take. Because it's more casual, it's not essential to sign up for it here to attend, but it's nice to give the players an idea of participation levels.

MON: Argentum: Castletopia: A Castle For You! For You? For You!!!

Like, ohmygosh, sure there's a castle on the island already but it doesn't belong to us!!!!!!!!! We never designed it, built it, or had any sort of say in it!!!!!!!!!!!

But now, now we can!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Join me for the next eleven million weeks* as we build a real, legit mini-castle, from scratch, from lintel to mantel to kitchen to tower, and make it anything our heart desires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*or, like, a semester. We will be cheating OUTRAGEOUSLY to get this done in a semester.
