Summer Travels Week 12: 8-Bit Theater
With all the rifts and substitutions going on, the island has to flee before she ends up pulled apart. And yet, no matter how hard she tries and how close she thinks she's getting, at the last minute Fandom just ends up somewhere else. At least this time when you wake up in the morning, there will be no question of what's weird. Because everything's gone all old timey video game graphics. That's right, based on this BDE, welcome to...Mario Island.
Everyone wakes up in the morning as pixelated versions of themselves in a pixelated world. (And, okay, more 16-bit than 8-bit, but I love a good reference!) The school looks like this. If you concentrate, you might just be able to make out some theme music. Random sewer pipes have appeared inmoddable locations. And, of course, there are enemies. The Hammer Bros are guarding the Causeway. The ocean is filled with bloobers and cheep-cheeps. Goombas and koopa troopers are pretty much everywhere.
Fortunately, you've got some abilities of your own. Grab a star to become invincible. Grab a fireflower to shoot fireballs at the enemies. Grab a leaf and turn into a flying raccoon - shut up it makes sense. Though, if you get attacked and don't have a handy mushroom available, you're back to your home/the dorms and basically grounded for the rest of the day. Better luck tomorrow?
Bowser and his kidnapping ways aren't going to make an appearance this time, but the island will be undergoing some daily changes to keep it new and fresh.
Monday: Normal day, pretty bright and cheerful. The 1-1 of the worlds, you might say. (Level example)
Tuesday: Oops! Everything is underwater again! Bloobers and cheep-cheeps abound, so watch out! Also, you need air, if you're not in a building! Don't forget to sometimes rise up to the top of the water and take a breath (characters who can breath underwater are immune to this, of course). If you go to long without taking a breath, you'll "die" and get grounded right back to your house again! (Level example)
Wednesday: Flying fish. They're everywhere and they're trying to kill you. Inside of buildings are safe, but as soon as you step outside, it's like a sushi revenge. Fortunately, all they can do is jump at you, so if you can figure out their arc (or just shoot them out of the sky), you'll be okay. (Level example)
Thursday: Somehow all of town (and school!) are all up very high on...very tall mushrooms?, and there are wide open distances between them. Best to have a leaf handy or you'll be doing a LOT of jumping from platform to platform. And, of course, some the platforms move, or drop when you land on them, or are connected...Look it's very dangerous out there. (Level example)
Friday: You remember how you thought quicksand was going to be a lot bigger deal growing up? Guess what! Today it is! Random places outside can actually be quicksand, which you can jump over (or cross if there's a handy stick or bridge available.) If you fall in, you can maybe save yourself by jumping out, but only if you act fast! Oh and sometimes the VERY ANGRY SUN tries to attack you. It's just a thing, you know? (Level example)
Saturday: All that attacking has left the sun exhausted so it's taking the day off. 24 hours of night, which unfortunately means that Boos are out in force. Some are just minding their own business and can be avoided if you time it right, but others will follow you if you're not watching closely... (Level example). In the Preserve, there's rumors of a very large Boo...one with a crown, even!
Sunday: And our last day, all the stone has been replaced by smooth, almost creepy white marble. And, oh, there are lava pits to be wary of. And some of those lava pits spit up balls of lava up into the air, requiring good timing to not get hit. Oh, and who can forget the long rotating rows of fireballs that are attached to walls and need to be avoided? And the random spurts of fire that come out of nowhere! Of course, if you don't go exactly the right way, you might find yourself back where you started. Weird, right? (Level example)
Dates: Monday, July 29 - Sunday August 4.
Causeway: On! If you wanna go explore other Mario-inspired levels, please do!
AUs: Any kind of enemy. And while you can't be Toad or Yoshi or Princess Daisy, you can absolutely be a random member of the Toadstool kingdom or an egg-eating dinosaur or any other generic character "type."

But the rest of this looks amazing and I cannot wait to stick like half my crew into silly raccoon suits for the week. :D
